We came to NOLA to celebrate Bucky's Great Adventure - Part Tre (Bob's 60th birthday). Eight of us bunked at the House of Mirth and had a ball. We had an easy time getting to the Jazz Fest as well as the French Quarter by riding the trolley which was only a few blocks away. The house was everything we had been told it would be. It was comfortable, welcoming and a great place to crash after a long day in the sun. The hot tub was especially nice at times. We would heartily recommend this house to anyone coming to NOLA. Loved it.

The pictures do not do this place justice! We were very impressed with the size and atmosphere of the house. It was clean and comfortable and we were able to fit 7 people easily. The porch out front is a great place to sit and watch the world go by, and for more privacy the back deck and hot tub are great places to hang out. Would definitely come back!

The House of Mirth is wonderfully clean and comfortable inside with a beautiful deck area outside. There are restaurants nearby and the trolley makes this the perfect location - close enough for an easy (and affordable) ride into the French Quarter but far enough away from the crowds so that you can enjoy a quiet morning outside on the deck. The owner was great to work with, helpful and quick to respond. If you are planning a trip to New Orleans, this is a great place to call home while you are there.

This house is simply gorgeous and we had a blast. You must take a bath in the enormous claw foot bath tub and end every night with a dip in the hot tub. The renter was very accommodating and we couldn't have had a better time. You are a quick walk to the street car which takes you straight downtown in 15 minutes. If you enjoy brunch, walk just one block to the Ruby Slipper for the best shrimp and grits you will ever have. I highly recommend staying in this house.

We just returned from a 4-night stay and loved this home! It was the perfect size for an extended family group of seven - plenty of space to gather plus private areas to be alone when we needed a break from all the talking. Great beds, comfy seating, wonderful AC and ceiling fans made the warm weather bearable. Fully equipped kitchen was great although, being New Orleans, we usually ate out! Convenient on-street parking. Nice backyard was a bonus. Great communication with owner - thanks, Elizabeth. We will be back!!
Owner response:Thanks for the kind words, Tica. So pleased that you enjoyed the house and New Orleans. Hope you'll visit us again soon! Elizabeth

Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful place to call "home" this week. We had a blast working with Habitat for Humanity and the hot tub was great after a long day's work. Left a few little trinkets of our own :) And I think I danced myself ragged on Frenchmen St! We will be back!

We went with a group of friends and really enjoyed ourselves! The Ruby Slipper, a small cafe just a block down from the house served great breakfast! There is an Irish pub called Finn McCools literally just around the corner...you can crawl home if need be! The house is very nice! We enjoyed going to see the WWII museum...as well as eating at The Acme Oyster Bar...a DEFINITE MUST! Try the char grilled oysters! Yum! The owner, Elizabeth, was very helpful answering my many questions prior to our trip. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we all did ours! We are planning on making another trip in late July.

Our family of six had a lovely vacation here. It is located in a lower middle class neighborhood (nearby homes have boarded up windows), which was surprisingly convenient and "real". We loved the proximity to the street car and to a marvelous cafe and walked to the French Quarter every day to use up some of the delicious calories we relished consuming at all the great restaurants. The home is spacious with plenty of room for people to spread out. The owner provides great customer service.
Owner response:Thanks for the kind words, Nicole ... they are much appreciated! So glad your family enjoyed The Ruby Slipper and experienced a taste of real-life New Orleans. Just a note to explain the boarded up windows on some of the homes nearby ... throughout many neighborhoods of New Orleans remain haunting reminders of Hurricane Katrina and the devastation she wrought on that beautiful, gracious old city. Our street is no exception. But bit by bit the damaged buildings are being restored or rebuilt, although in some instances the property owners cannot or will not take action. In our case, the house next door is owned by someone who refuses to sell, tear down or repair the house. So there it sits, essentially abandoned after the storm, yet so deserving of restoration as an architectural gem waiting to be repolished. If we are able to convince the owner to sell it, we hope to buy the house and transform it much as the House of Mirth was transformed. But despite the blight, the undaunted spirit of New Orleans triumphs, shining through even the most crippled of streets or structures. It's the people, the history, the customs, the music, the food, the architecture, even the languid air and the ever-changing sky that make the city special and unique. Those boarded up windows may someday be repaired ... or not ... but don't let that stop you from experiencing the magic that is New Orleans, especially in the "faubourgs" or neighborhoods that are off the tourist grid, like MidCity. The folks who live and work in "the back o' town" are the heart and soul of New Orleans ... they go to work and school, plant their gardens, visit with their neighbors, take care of their frail and elderly, parade with Endymion at Mardi Gras, eat crawfish at Jazz Fest time, and generally live their lives in the laid back New Orleans way. If their houses are not perfect or their streets are still pot-holed, that's okay ... it's a work in progress!

This is an impossibly charming, surprisingly large home in a safe, conveniently located area of New Orleans. Amenities abound, and the owner is helpful and quick to respond to any inquiries. The Mid-City locale is perfect for those who want to experience the Crescent City from a reasonable distance. A trolly nearby creates easy access for trips to Downtown and the Bourbon scene, but some local eateries and bars are worth checking out. Overall this is a great set-up.

The House of Mirth was a great experience! We've been to NOLA many times but it was wonderful to stay in Midcity and experience the life, restaurants, and culture of this unique area. We loved the house with its original doors and fireplace mantels..so beautiful! I think it's great that you've shared your home with others. The only thing that would have made our trip better would have been cool weather. We were there the first of August during the heat wave!

I stayed at The House of Mirth in July 2010 !!! The property was just as was described - wonderful - perfect - just a few words i would use. Streetcars were 2 blocks. Ruby Slipper for breakfast was 1 block and great. We even took a taxi one night to Bourbon Street - grand total for 6 people was $12 dollars ! So easy to drive. Just jump on Canal and go anywhere in the city !!!! Loved all of the attractions - Aquarium - Riverfront Mall - Cemetary - Jackson Square !! I will be calling for this house as soon as my husband gets some time off again !!!! Lisa

I first would like to start by saying that the house was absolutely beautiful!!! Secondly, the owner of the home was very nice, very accomodating and gave prompt responses to all and any questions I had. My friends and I loved the home and it was truly icing on the cake for us while enjoying the Festival. Thank you again and we look forward to renting your home again.

Five stars! LOVE the spa! Our stay at the House of Mirth was a perfect romantic getaway. My wife loved the all the colors. This is a huge house and very comfortable -- great kitchen. And the 50" TV is great! The owners have done an outstanding job in renovating the house. Way cool furnishings and beautiful rice bed in the master. The deck in the back makes the house a complete self-contained hideaway for romance. We loved it and plan to make a return visit as soon as possible.
