Are you looking to "get away from it all", where you can truly relax and forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life? If so, then "Overlook Cottage" is your answer!
"Overlook" is a traditional summertime cottage that is situated on a large, extremely quiet undeveloped parcel of land on the west side of Seneca Lake near town of Lakemont, New York.
Sitting on a bluff, Overlook is shaded all-around by trees--so it stays nice and cool, even in the heat of summer. It has a full-length, screened-in porch overlooking the lake, perfect for relaxing, rain or shine! (We promise, it will become your favorite place to hang out!) One side of the porch has a cushioned glider inviting you to sit and read or nap; the other side has a large table and chairs -- just right for eating and playing cards or games.
Inside, a warm and inviting combined kitchen/living area with sofa and a large overstuffed chair has large windows opening out to porch, for views of lake from inside the cottage. There are two small bedrooms, each with one double bed, and a renovated bathroom complete with shower. Overlook's size makes it perfect for two adults; our most common renters are couples with or without one or two children.
We are "no frills" compared to most other cottages you'll find, but our guests tell us that the "forced relaxation" is what they love most. No clocks, no TV stations or cable, and no internet give you nothing to worry about. Instead, you can focus on relaxing in the water, laying on the glider and reading (or napping!), and visiting the many wonderful wineries within a few minutes drive.
Outside the cottage, you'll find parking (on same level as cottage), a clothesline, campfire ring, and BBQ grill. You're also a few steps away from a multi-level staircase that takes you down to your very own dock and beach area, complete with another campfire ring. Perfect for watching the shooting stars and viewing the Milky Way while sitting around a campfire!
If you're visiting the region's wineries, you'll find that we are perfectly situated right in the middle of Seneca Lake Wine Country with plenty of large and small wineries on both Seneca and Keuka Lakes within easy driving distance. In fact, you won't find another location so close to so many great wineries. Our close proximity to Watkins Glen, Ithaca, Geneva, and Corning and their many activities is also great, making our cottage the perfect spot for your vacation getaway. See below for many more activities to be found in the surrounding area.
Our previous guests (many of whom repeat with us each year) will tell you that our plusses include our beautiful setting, the unparallelled seclusion and privacy at both the cottage and on the beach, and the fact that we're a traditional, low-key cottage that lets you "get away from it all" at the best price you will find -- not to mention the porch. We hope to hear from you!
