Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: House
A lovely Mexican style home just minutes above the University of Guanajuato and an enchanting 7 minute walk to the Historic Centre. The home
offers first class amenities, including a flat screen TV with SKY satellite; a computer, printer, internet, and a local phone for guest use.
We provide professional management and greeting services. The home is on a quiet and secure street with 8 or 9 other houses and we all have easy car access and private, gated parking, not very common in Guanajuato. (Casa Camino Real has private parking for 2 cars if you have visitors). However to get right downtown to 'el centro', it's best to just walk down the street - and take a $3 cab ride back up the hill again if you'd rather not walk back. The University of Guanajuato, with its self-learning language centre, as well as excellent language schools are all within walking distance, as are good restaurants, fun markets and quality museums. A 3-minute walk up the street from the house, into the Cerro del Cuarto neighbourhood, you will find convenience stores, green grocers etc. - real Mexican street life, including a family who sells wonderful barbecued chicken!
The house has the traditional vaulted brick "boveda" ceilings in every room with hand made Mexican tiles on the walls and floors. The furniture is a mix of Mexican antique and locally made custom furniture. New quality mattresses and bedding in all three bedrooms and decorative Mexican textiles and locally made light-fixtures and crafts throughout.
There is a cosy study overlooking the living room with a computer and high speed internet.
There is also an extra room that can be used as an art studio. The generous rooftop deck overlooks the local church and the surrounding mountains - a great place to relax in the sun or watch the moon rise and the stars come out and fill the nighttime sky.
The maid will come and clean once a week, and will take care of laundry and ironing for a small fee, if you prefer to not use the washing machine in the house. Our rental agent and property manager, James of Guanajuato Land & Homes, who speaks fluent German, Spanish and English, will
greet you upon arrival and orient you to the Casa Camino Real and Guanajuato. He is always available to answer any questions or help with any
issues that might come up.
We're happy to answer any e-mails with questions you might have about the house, the neighborhood or the town itself.

Casa Camino Real - Lovely Character House Near the Centro
Year Purchased: 2008
Why the Owner Chose Guanajuato
After getting to know many different areas in Mexico, including the coast, I decided that I wanted to be in a place that had strong cultural elements, wasn't too large and had fully maintained it's Mexican character. The fact that Guanajuato is a University town as well as the state
capital gives it a strength of identity and makes for a great mix of people of all ages and interests. And yet there is enough of an international
element to make one feel welcome as a visitor. I bought Casa Camino Real specifically because it is very close to the centro, but not right in
the middle of the action!

Hello,
My name is Kim Young - I am a high school teacher - Spanish and French. I live in beautiful British
Columbia, Canada, on a float home in the harbour of Victoria. I was born in Sweden (hej alla svenskar!) and
grew up in Belgium (salut les Belges!) but chose Canada as my home about 30 years ago.
I started traveling to Mexico with my students many years ago and have always found it to be a magical
place, where one can truly leave the competitive, materialistic world of the north behind and get back to
the real stuff of a good life; enough time, simple real food, genuine people, music.....can't wait for the next
trip.

Casa camino real exeded our expectations! We stay at casa camino real from June 22- July 22. Our stay was great, my two girls and I enjoy the house fully, the house is fully equiped so it had everything we needed. My girls went to casa mexicana spanish school and we walked every day to the school and the center. The walk down the hill was easy and fast however going back and forth 2 to 3 times a day was a little challenging so we took cabs often (only 35 pesos). The only down side to the house it was the location, because of the alleys we had to walk to get to the house, being only 3 girls I would not take the chance and walk after dark. Once we were in the house I always felt 100%safe. Overall we love casa camino real, my girls can't wait to go back next year. Guanajuato is full of magic and we are planning our next trip already. Thanks James for all your help!!! Alma.

A group of us stayed at Casa Camino Real for 2 weeks in October/November 2010 and enjoyed every minute of being in Guanajuato! We found the Casa to be clean, equipped for all our needs including a computer, TV and located close to the University and within walking distance of El Centro where we found restaurants, coffee shops, shopping and Spanish lesson schools. Upon arrival, we were met by a fellow who went over the workings of the house and answered our many questions. The culture of Guanajuato is rich and the city is vibrant with festivals and celebrations. I would highly recommend the Day of the Dead celebrations, Cervantes Festival, the Grainery Museum, Teatro Juaz, Diago Rivera's home, the markets and the many art galleries. The Spanish schools also conduct mini-tours throughout the city and to nearby points of interest. There are a wide variety of restaurants - from traditional Mexican food to pizza! The people of Guanajuato are friendly, helpful and proud to share their city with the tourists. I would highly recommend this VRBO to anyone who is looking to visit Mexico and to immerse themselves in the Mexican culture

When we arrived at Casa Camino Real, the friendly caretaker James met us as planned and gave us a tour of the casa as well as lots of good tips on seeing GTO and the neighbourhood. We were thrilled with the casa's sweeping views over Guanajuato from the rooftop terrace and the front veranda. The interior has been artistically decorated with vibrant local furnishings, artwork and textiles. We found it very clean and well appointed with everything we needed for our two week stay during Cervantino Festival. The location during the festival was ideal because it was just far enough away from the activities in el centro to have quiet evenings. We slept well on the comfy beds! The kitchen is large and well supplied with the appropriate dishes etc. The bathrooms were tiled with gorgeous local tiles and the showers were hot! We helped ourselves to the good selection of reading material, used the free internet and tv. The location is perfect. Walk up a short hill to the local stores for daily groceries (look for the bbq chicken vendor!), and down the hill to Spanish school, entertainment, restaurants, etc. The neighbourhood is safe and the neigbours helpful. We were comfortable walking to and from el centro in the evenings as the casa is in a family neighbourhood. We loved everything about the Casa and hope to return for a longer stay this year! Suggestions for restaurants: Cafe Ofelia in Calle Truco and Cafe Tal for great coffee, hot chocolate and pasteries!
