VRBO Bear stayed here - 05/29/2009
This home was uniquely architected by the owner’s father to take full advantage of the incredible ocean views. You can hear the waves crashing upon the shore from every room throughout the home. The open living room features lots of windows and a large seating capacity to comfortably admire the awe-inspiring surroundings.
Whether you’re traveling as a bear family of four or with a larger group, this home features four bedrooms to accommodate eight guests. The three full bathrooms gave everyone in our group privacy they needed in the mornings while getting ready.
If you’re traveling with a gourmet chef bear or simply someone who has a passion for cooking, the fully-equipped kitchen has everything you’d need. The large table and benches made of “monkeypod” wood in the spacious dining area were perfect for entertaining during the evenings we opted to dine in. Plus, the outdoor gas grill was great for cooking up a Hawaiian-style BBQ.
The beauty of this home is evident inside and out. Both the lanai and luxurious hot tub on the deck overlook the blue Pacific Ocean. After an active day of sightseeing, this bear relaxed in the hot tub which had a soothing underwater light show with changing colors. The beautiful landscaped yard lush with tropical flowers featured a refreshing outdoor shower. It was perfect after a long soak in the hot tub or a swim in the ocean.
Did I mention this home is located just a stone’s throw away from the beach? While playing at the beach, VRBO’s bear friends saw sea turtles and dolphins! The home is also in close proximity to fine and casual dining, golf, shopping, snorkeling, etc. Just a block away from the home we discovered “Brenecke’s”, one of our favorite restaurants on the island!
Kauai, the “garden island” is not as touristy as some of the other Hawaiian Islands yet there are so many attractions to see! We enjoyed a train ride around the sugar cane plantation, a bird-eye’s view of the island by helicopter, a round of golf at the Kiahuna Golf Course and an evening luau.
The VRBO bear and his friends loved their stay at Hale Hali'a and hope to make our Hawaii vacation a tradition for years to come!
Aloha and Mahalo,
The VRBO Bear

We had a great 2 weeks over the Christmas holiday with our group ranging from 2 to 81 years old. The house was everything that it advertised! The only thing that was wrong was the roosters, who begin crowing at about 4:30 a.m. on both sides of the house :) - it was great watching the whales and the body surfers on Brenneke Beach and the location was fabulous. The house was beautiful and the living area was great for a big group. Vicki even got us a Christmas tree so we could celebrate the holiday! Great place! I'd recommend it!

"Our family of nine spent a week at Hale Halia and came back refreshed.... from this paradise in Koloa. Hale Halia is immmaculately kept and plenty roomy for even a group of 8 adults and 1 child. ....the kitchen provided all the right amenities to eat any or all meals at home.... Our favorite location was the sun room out front. It seemed like everyone regardless of age was drawn to this breezy, spacious room with a spectacular view of Brennecke's Beach."

We loved the house, it is so beautiful! We enjoyed our stay and the house it is exactly what we wanted. The furnishings and amenities were all great. There were plenty of towels, comfortable furniture and plenty of eating and counter space in the well appointed kitchen and living areas. We had everything we possibly needed including beach chairs, extra blankets, dishwasher detergent, utensils, cooking tools...you name it! We had 2 families in the house and still plenty of room. We loved the sound of the crashing waves from Brennecke's beach AND the cool breeze filled the house. We will be repeat customers!

We stayed at Hale Halia for a week. Our party consisted of myself and my husband (grandparents) My daughters and their husbands and 4 children ranging in ages from 4 years old to 5 months. We found the house to be great for children. It came with a baby gate so you could keep the little ones in a central location, a pack and play type crib and the owner purchased a high chair for the house because we asked if they had one. The house is about a 1/2 of block from the Poipu beach park complete with a playground and a wonderful swim area for children. It was so nice to go to the beach and find out any forgotten item was just a short walk away. The kitchen was setup beautifully. There is a six burner Jenn-Air gas range with electric oven, circulon type cookware, 2 blenders and a lot of flatware and dishes. We didn't find anything that we needed and didin't have. The view from the great room was fantastic. The layout of house was very nice because the bedrooms were apart from the Great room. (down a hall). There is parking for 3 vehicles there. Around Poipu Beach parking is a prime commodity so this was very nice.. The yard is surrounded by beautiful flowering hedges. Nice place to gaze at the stars. When we first arrived, I had the opportunity to meet the owner. He was very welcoming and I had no hesitation to call on him if needed. You could tell he was very proud of this house as well he should be. He took a personal interest in making sure we were comfortable while there.

I just got home to the wet Pacific Northwest after an amazing 7 day stay in this home. I can't say enough about our experience. This was a family (four generations) vacation and we will have memories to last a lifetime. The house is beautiful; open layout, well ventilated for ocean breezes; family friendly. We ate most of our meals at the house, except for an occasional walk to Brenakes (can't remember how to spell it). The location says it all. I could sit in the screened lanai and watch the grandkids play on the beach and in the ocean, or I could walk a few feet and join them! The little ones would go to the beach as soon as they woke up each morning. I'm already planning for next year. The kids say there is no way I could top this house - I've found the perfect house for years to come!

This house was everything the pictures and description said and more. The best part of the house is the lanai on the front facing the beach. We spent most of our time on the lanai watching the whales, dolphins, turtles and people. We were a group of 4 couples. This house was perfect! Everything was first class. The kitchen was well stocked with the essential tools. We loved grilling on the deck and eating at the beautiful dining room table. Coffee on the lanai in the morning was an absolute must! I would recommend this house to anyone! The location is superb. The beach is within a stones throw. There were some beach items in the closet including noodles and beach mats. Breneke's is just down the road - about 2 blocks and a wonderful itallian restaraunt was about 3 blocks in the other direction. No Complaints!! We will be back in the future.

My husband's family and I (his mother, brother, sister and her husband and myself and my husband) just returned from our long-awaited Kauai/Oahu vacation this morning. I couldn't wait to post my review for this most lovely property. I was given the assignment to find a house "on the beach in Poipu" well over a year ago when planning this once-in-a-lifetime getaway for our family. We were going to Shipwreck Beach for a family member's wedding. I researched for months and came across Hale Hali'a. The moment we all entered the house together, no one said a word. Everyone was in shock looking at the gorgeous ocean view out in front of Hale Hali'a. My mother-in-law was speechless! She was gushing for days about the view, post furnishings, comfortable beds, fully-stocked kitchen, etc., etc. Soothing ocean sounds permeated the bedrooms at night, lulling us all to sleep. My husband and I had the queen-bedded room upstairs and the breeze through the entire upstairs area was always welcoming. It never felt stuffy or warm, even on the hottest of days. We had our entire family over for dinner and fit comfortably around the beautiful dining room table, plus had plenty of plates, silverware and glasses for everyone. We forgot to get paper napkins and used the linens napkins provided, which was a very nice touch! Everything was absolutely first-class! We spent most of our time in the lanai out front, people watching and watching the boogie-boarders/surfers in the waves across the street. We even had people wave to us as they were walking by! Absolutely loved our stay at Hale Hali'a! You have put a personal touch into making this rental the perfect home away from home for your guests. The little touches are very much appreciated! Keep up the good work! I would be more than happy to be a reference for any future renters if you so desire. I also have pictures of the property you are welcome to use, mostly of the exterior, although your photos are "spot on!" Thank you again for making our trip priceless for our whole family! We even had to chuckle at the end of our week staying at Hale Hali'a about our resident rooster that liked to wake my mother-in-law every morning. I'm pretty sure it was the same one over and over again! Mahalo!
