Torre Montefollonico is a magnificent two bedroom apartment in a castle in the tiny hilltop village of Montefollonico. This unique and romantic home has two bedrooms, a library, and a 12th century fairy tale tower with private rooftop patio. This is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of Vino Nobile as the sun sets on the wondrous horizon. The furnishings are an eclectic mix of wonderful antiques and the best in Italian modern design. This is a large spacious apartment with a high ceiling dining room with exposed beams and new high end kitchen appliances. There is a DSL high-speed internet connection and Wi-Fi for your convenience.

Torre Montefollonico is within 15 minutes by car from Pienza, Unesco Heritage site and Montepulciano, two of the best regarded Tuscan towns. While the apartment is in the village and provides the convenience of a 5 minute walk to four great restaurants, including the NY Times reviewed La Chiusa, with an ATM, pharmacy, and food stores, the setting is pastoral. You will hear sheep bells and watch sparrows wheel about from your patio. You can walk for miles through olive trees and vineyards near Monte Oliveto, Bagno Vignoni, and Moltacino.

My wife and I spent a lovely week May 2011 at the apartment. We wanted a Tuscan adventure. Day trips to the cities, but a quiet, elegant, centrally located base. Montefollonico, is a small, friendly, hill town. There are enough restaurants to enjoy your evening without driving ( and with a short stroll home). We like to cook, and were able to enjoy a few meals at home (kitchen is adequate). The residents are amicable, but don't make their living off tourists. This is a great place for mature adults: perfect for one or two couples. Amenities are as described by other reviews, exceeding expectations. Prepare to be blown away by the view!

Owner response:Thanks for your review. It is a wonderful dilemma, whether to dine out at a fabulous restaurant or make the rounds at the market, the macelleria (butcher shop), and of course pick up pasta fresca and then bring it home and have the joy of preparing a fabulous meal made from the best ingredients. I think the perfect plan is to have cocktails at sunset on the torre with some wonderful antipasti, a wonderful cheese plate and salumi, and then have a one course meal at a restaurant with just a glass of wine. It makes for a well paced, enjoyable, and economical evening.

We rented Tuscan Towers for one week in mid-October. Everything from our initial contact with John and Wendy, to our departure, went smoothly, thanks in part to the owners who prepare a welcome package you receive ahead of time to help plan out your stay. We were all apprehensive as we drove up the winding roads to Montefollonico but as we entered the front door of the Towers we all were delighted and each went on to explore our space for the week, ending up on the tower terrace just in time for the sunset and magnificent views. What a week we had! It is such a great location to visit any of the great towns of Tuscany and then come home after a long day and relax. The 2 bedroom condo is spacious and clean, has laundry facilities and has the best towels to use we had on our trip. We enjoyed the many restaurants in Montefollonico but especially the food and friendly service of La Botte Piena, but we also cooked in 2 nights and just relaxed in the Villa. The local people are great and seem to go out of their way to help you. I must say it was the highlight of our trip and would not hesitate to recommend the place to anyone who wants to explore Tuscany. If we come back we will definitely stay here!

We stayed at the Tuscan Tower for one week of a three week visit to Italy to celebrate my 60th birthday. We chose this property because of the views, the comfortable beds and linens and because it was located in a small village with several local restaurants. We wanted to be able to come back to the village after a day of exploring Tuscany and freshen up to go out to dinner without having to drive. We were not disappointed. The property is very comfortable and well tended. There are comfortable beds, nice pillows and big thirsty towels. The kitchen is very modern and convenient. The view from the tower is unbelievable. The village of Montefollonico is so clean and friendly. Everyone went out of their way to help us and be cordial. The local restaurants recommended to us by John and Wendy were excellent, La Botte Piena, 13 Gobbi and La Chiusa.

We arrived at night - directions were perfect and the little town is lovely. Each little nook and corner of the apartment contained a new surprise. The beds and baths are outfitted in "american" style - nice mattresses, soft comforters, extra pillows, thick towels. I enjoyed checking my email on the computer (with free internet access) after the rest of our group was asleep and surprising my colleagues at work by answering their emails. But the real surprise came in the morning - when we walked out onto the roof terrace and watched the sun rising across the valley - just spectacular. Wendy and John were very helpful with arrangements and information - they even told us where the guys could get a great haircut in Cortona! Best place we have ever stayed - anywhere!

Everything about the apartment and the rental process were exactly as John and Wendy specified. Montefollonico is not one of the crowded hill towns and itis a great location from which to take short drives to experience Tuscany.Highly recommended.
