Don’t be a tourist; be an insider. Experience Paris the way the authors of the highly acclaimed guidebook do. ("Just the best, most erudite little walking guide you can find." - Susan Spano, Los Angeles Times)

Start your day with a short walk to pick up the International Herald as well as fresh bread and croissants from one of the nearby excellent bakeries. Enjoy your coffee and breakfast as you plot your day using the Wi-Fi internet connection and information we have left for you in the apartment.

Spend your day walking for hours through central Paris following a walk from our guidebook. Visit any of the half a dozen museums that are within a 10 minute walk. Shop the trendy clothing stores on rue des Francs-Bourgeois or shop for food on the rue Rambuteau, at the huge bi-weekly street market on rue Richard Lenoir, or on the pedestrian street rue Montorgueil all in close proximity. We give you all the best addresses for dining and touring. On your way home pick up a bottle of wine and some cheese. Or, be seduced by the produce and the charcuterie and come home laden with food to cook in your fully-equipped kitchen.

Relax on the oversize sofa (perfect for napping) or on the balcony as night falls over the rooftops of Paris. If you are not cooking, walk out to dinner at one of the many delicious and reasonably-priced restaurants in the neighborhood. Return home late to fall into the comfortable beds knowing that tomorrow will be just as wonderful.

Our apartment provides comfort and generous personal space. The apartment is light, sunny and safe. The bathrooms have deep tubs and stand-up showers. The two bedrooms and baths are fully separated, providing total privacy for two couples. The study has a twin bed that can accommodate a fifth person.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

Our location is ideally situated for easy access to any part of central Paris. We are near three different subway lines and several bus lines. It is an easy and interesting walk to most destinations in the heart of the city. The neighborhood is one of the most vibrant and is studded with shops, restaurants, galleries, and markets. Why stay in the neighborhoods where the over-priced hotels are and only see the tourist traps? Stay in a real neighborhood and live like a Parisian.

A
Shopping street (Rambuteau)

Bakeries, fruit, supermarket, banks, cheese store, coffee roaster, cafes, etc

B
Place des Vosges

Historic square lined with beautiful 17th century buildings. The arcades are filled with galleries and cafes and the garden is filled with people lounging on the grass and children playing.

C
Hotel Carnavalet, the museum of the History of Paris

An often-ignored but wonderful museum of the history of Paris. Housed in what was once a private home with beautiful gardens, it includes such treasures as Proust's bedroom and Fouquet's jewelry store

D
Picasso Museum

Once a private home, Picasso's heirs donated this collection of his paintings and sculptures to the French government to avoid the death duties.

E
Jewish Museum

The museum of French Judaism. This is not a Holocaust museum. It contains artwork and objects of Jewish life in France

F
Pompidou Center

A striking building with the pipes and "guts" on the outside. There are temporary exhibits and the permanent modern art collection here. Take the outside escalator to the top for a great view of Pari

G
Hotel de Ville and BHV

The Hotel de Ville (city hall) has free exhibits that are usually wonderful and skating (winter) and a ferris wheel (summer) on the plaza. The BHV is a huge department store where you can buy anything

H
Richard Lenoir Market

A fabulous street market every Thursday and Sunday mornings. The best prices and a huge array of produce, meat, cheese, etc. French vegetables and fruits somehow taste much better than ours!

Owner's Map of Paris Arrondissement 3

My parents purchased the apartment because they spent extensive periods of time in Paris. The apartment is our home, not a rental property. Our guidebook was first published over 30 years ago. It has had several editions over the years with new walks added each time. The current edition included my daughter, making it a book by three generations of women in our family.

A Perfect Stay!

Guest: Sus (Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania)

This apartment is just about as good as it gets. The location is primo; the apartment is spacious, up-to-date (an amazing kitchen, BTW!), and incredibly comfortable. It was better than represented--after all, photos cannot reveal everything! And the owners collectively probably know more about Paris than even most Parisians! We would gladly return.

Wonderful location and very nice space

Date of Stay: 09/04/10 Review Submitted: 10/30/10

This apartment is superbly located; in addition to the supermarche now right across the street from the building, there are all necessary shops and services within a block or two. It is 5 min walk from the Beaubourg Museum, 5 minutes from the trendy shops of the Marais, and two buses stop very nearby. the metro is also a 2-3 minute walk. There are many good restaurants within a 15-20 minute walk, and other interesting areas to visit , including great markets. In fact, it is possible to walk from this area much further than we expected --eg. to the Isle St Louis --in a very relaxed way. It takes 10- 15 minutes to walk to the Hotel de Ville The apartment has space and light; the bathrooms are reasonably modern (showers in tub), the washer/dryer and kitchen appliances are modern and work well. The kitchen/dining/living room are a nice open space (kitchen is somewhat separate and very easy to work with.) The furnishings are functional and a bit in the well-worn category, but everything was totally clean, and there were an abundance of linens. Internet service was fine, and there were phone for local and international use (respectively). The terrace is nice to have and has nice views. There is no real TV (there is a tiny so-called TV but we don't watch tv and never used it.) There is no air conditioning, although there are fans and cross ventilation in the living/dining room (we were there in September and on a couple of unusually warm days we used the fans). Bedrooms are small but ok, facing on back courtyard which can be noisy when used by people in adjoining building (if the windows are left open). Ours was a king made up of two twins, and perfectly comfortable. A huge bonus: a real treasure trove of books about Paris, including one of the earliest Paris Walks books, written by the owner and her mother. There are many other books over a wide range of subjects in the apartment. The owner is terrific to deal with, helpful and knowledgeable (in Pennsylvania, US). This apartment provides a real sense of living in Paris and we would recommend it with enthusiasm.

A great apartment. We were two single adults, so heaps of space. The apartment was furnished well and had mountains of interesting books. Had everything we needed, right down to needle and cotten! The kitchen was very well set out and a large fridge, which was a bonus to us weary travellers. There was also a washing machine and dryer. The apartment was very clean and bright. The balcony was enjoyed for our pre-dinner drinks. Very close to all tourist attractions, cafe's and stores. About a twenty minute walk to the Louvre. Would return if we every visited this beautiful city again.

The Perfect two couple apartment in the Marais

Guest: Vic and Jean (NYC and Long Beach Island, NJ)
Date of Stay: 10/24/09 Review Submitted: 10/18/10

My husband and I and our adult son and his wife had the best time in this apartment. Not only was the location perfect---we could walk to just about everything we wanted to see--the owners thought of absolutely everything one might need or want while staying there--even a laptop was sitting on the desk for our use! The apartment is spacious and squeeky clean and we plan to stay there again as soon as we can! It made our Paris experience absolutely wonderful! We've rented apartments in the Marais twice before and we finally found the one to which we will always return!

Loved this place!

This was the most perfect apartment for us. It is spacious and clean and in a wonderful location. There is so much to do in the Marias; we just loved the area. The view is beautiful, amenities wonderful and the owner, Allison could not have been more helpful, professional and communicative. Honestly, when we return to Paris (sooner rather than later, we hope!) we will most definitely stay here again.

Wonderful experience

Guest: Sandy and Pat (Oakland, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/19/10 Review Submitted: 07/23/10

We loved this apartment and our time in Paris. We hardly ever left the 3rd or 4th arrondissment and the immediate area. There was so much to see and do. Nearby streets had excellent restaurants and stores. We had been to Paris before and didn't feel we needed to do it all. We loved hanging out on the balcony overlooking the roof tops in the evening. We appreciated the amenities in the apartment and the wonderful selection of books and guide books, including Paris Walks. The owner is very professional yet helpful and friendly. We hope to return.

At home in the Marais

Guest: amjpnc (Boone NC, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/15/10 Review Submitted: 06/16/10

From the moment I walked into the Chez Landes apartment, I felt like I was at home away from home. It was airy, comfortable, and attractive, but not at all pretentious. The windows overlooked the lovely courtyard of the complex, with a view of the roof of Le Centre Pompidou off to the right. The kitchen was very well equipped and convenient. In addition to a whole array of travel information, there were books of all kinds in nearly every room. My husband and I stayed in the room with the king bed down the short hallway to the right of the entrance. It was very comfortable. We shared the apartment with my brother and sister-in-law, who stayed in the double bedroom off the living room. There was more than enough room for two couples. We could enjoy each others' company and still have our privacy. To me, the location of the apartment was ideal. Some people decry the gentrification of the Marais, but I found it unexpectedly familiar. It reminded me in many ways of the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Rather than tourists, there were many young professional people on the streets, often with young children. Possibly because of this, a variety of food stores, as well as cafes, were close at hand, as on Rue Rambuteau and Rue des Archives. The Metro and several bus routes are also nearby. Alison was very considerate and attentive. She was quite concerned that the Internet connection and some of the phones were not working properly. (They were fixed by the end of the week.) This was only a minor inconvenience, however, and did not interfere with our enjoyment of Chez Landes. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to feel right at home in Paris.

We loved this apartment! I and my family have rented several apartments in Paris and this is our favorite one by far. It is very nice, clean, quite and in a wonderful part of the City. The owner (Allison was our contact) was wonderfully helpful and the Marais neighborhood and resturant guidebook they provide you is priceless. We'll definately return to this apartment. My advice is stay as long as you can; there is so much to see in Paris and in the immediate area.

As previous guests have noted in words far better than I can express, a week chez Landes is, for the exuberant tourist as well as the experienced traveler a dream come true. From the moment we walked into the Landes apartment we knew we had made the right decision. My family members ranged from the cerebral to the “Let’s Party” type and we all found what we sought in and around the apartment. Only minutes from wonderful markets, restaurants, access to the subway, buses, the batobus, even an Irish Pub. French dining is great and we enjoyed it to the max, but we also enjoyed within a few blocks excellent Chinese “importer” (take-out) and at L’As du falafel, fantastic falafel and the best jelly donuts in Paris for breakfast. I have lived in New York for years and spent considerable time in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Rome, but there is no place in the world that can compare to Paris, and the Landes family apartment is the perfect jumping off point from which to experience it. My family members are already making plans to stay again during the coming year. P.S. The Landes also have a fantastic library for when your feet give out! Guide and Travel books galore. Professor Landes book on the global economy which was in a library in a third bedroom that we rented separately started to open a whole new world for me and I ordered it as soon as I got back. My advice: You only live once, do it right, chez Landes
