Fabulous Marais Flat!

my husband and I and our 2 adult children spent a week in this fantastic condo. It completely enhanced our Paris experience. The flat was extremely clean and was stocked with amenities. The owner was delightful to work with and very responsive. I highly recommend this condo and will absolutely rent again on our next trip to Paris.

Wonderful Week in Paris

Guest: Marc
Date of Stay: 01/14/12 Review Submitted: 03/30/12

What a wonderful week in this astoundingly well furnished flat. It was spotlessly clean; the bookcases were lined with an outstanding collection of books; the bathrooms were well appointed and had an abundance of fluffy towels. The kitchen was up to date with modern equipment. The apartment is strategically well located near many of the major attractions. Our every need was provided for in this apartment. We are planning on returning soon. [original too long - edited by owner]

A Perfect Stay!

This apartment is just about as good as it gets. The location is primo; the apartment is spacious, up-to-date (an amazing kitchen, BTW!), and incredibly comfortable. It was better than represented--after all, photos cannot reveal everything! And the owners collectively probably know more about Paris than even most Parisians! We would gladly return.

A great apartment. We were two single adults, so heaps of space. The apartment was furnished well and had mountains of interesting books. Had everything we needed, right down to needle and cotten! The kitchen was very well set out and a large fridge, which was a bonus to us weary travellers. There was also a washing machine and dryer. The apartment was very clean and bright. The balcony was enjoyed for our pre-dinner drinks. Very close to all tourist attractions, cafe's and stores. About a twenty minute walk to the Louvre. Would return if we every visited this beautiful city again.

Wonderful location and very nice space

Date of Stay: 09/04/10 Review Submitted: 10/30/10

This apartment is superbly located; in addition to the supermarche now right across the street from the building, there are all necessary shops and services within a block or two. It is 5 min walk from the Beaubourg Museum, 5 minutes from the trendy shops of the Marais, and two buses stop very nearby. the metro is also a 2-3 minute walk. There are many good restaurants within a 15-20 minute walk, and other interesting areas to visit , including great markets. In fact, it is possible to walk from this area much further than we expected --eg. to the Isle St Louis --in a very relaxed way. It takes 10- 15 minutes to walk to the Hotel de Ville The apartment has space and light; the bathrooms are reasonably modern (showers in tub), the washer/dryer and kitchen appliances are modern and work well. The kitchen/dining/living room are a nice open space (kitchen is somewhat separate and very easy to work with.) The furnishings are functional and a bit in the well-worn category, but everything was totally clean, and there were an abundance of linens. Internet service was fine, and there were phone for local and international use (respectively). The terrace is nice to have and has nice views. There is no real TV (there is a tiny so-called TV but we don't watch tv and never used it.) There is no air conditioning, although there are fans and cross ventilation in the living/dining room (we were there in September and on a couple of unusually warm days we used the fans). Bedrooms are small but ok, facing on back courtyard which can be noisy when used by people in adjoining building (if the windows are left open). Ours was a king made up of two twins, and perfectly comfortable. A huge bonus: a real treasure trove of books about Paris, including one of the earliest Paris Walks books, written by the owner and her mother. There are many other books over a wide range of subjects in the apartment. The owner is terrific to deal with, helpful and knowledgeable (in Pennsylvania, US). This apartment provides a real sense of living in Paris and we would recommend it with enthusiasm.

Loved this place!

This was the most perfect apartment for us. It is spacious and clean and in a wonderful location. There is so much to do in the Marias; we just loved the area. The view is beautiful, amenities wonderful and the owner, Allison could not have been more helpful, professional and communicative. Honestly, when we return to Paris (sooner rather than later, we hope!) we will most definitely stay here again.

We loved this apartment and our time in Paris. We hardly ever left the 3rd or 4th arrondissment and the immediate area. There was so much to see and do. Nearby streets had excellent restaurants and stores. We had been to Paris before and didn't feel we needed to do it all. We loved hanging out on the balcony overlooking the roof tops in the evening. We appreciated the amenities in the apartment and the wonderful selection of books and guide books, including Paris Walks. The owner is very professional yet helpful and friendly. We hope to return.

At home in the Marais

Guest: amjpnc (Boone NC, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/15/10 Review Submitted: 06/16/10

From the moment I walked into the Chez Landes apartment, I felt like I was at home away from home. It was airy, comfortable, and attractive, but not at all pretentious. The windows overlooked the lovely courtyard of the complex, with a view of the roof of Le Centre Pompidou off to the right. The kitchen was very well equipped and convenient. In addition to a whole array of travel information, there were books of all kinds in nearly every room. My husband and I stayed in the room with the king bed down the short hallway to the right of the entrance. It was very comfortable. We shared the apartment with my brother and sister-in-law, who stayed in the double bedroom off the living room. There was more than enough room for two couples. We could enjoy each others' company and still have our privacy. To me, the location of the apartment was ideal. Some people decry the gentrification of the Marais, but I found it unexpectedly familiar. It reminded me in many ways of the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Rather than tourists, there were many young professional people on the streets, often with young children. Possibly because of this, a variety of food stores, as well as cafes, were close at hand, as on Rue Rambuteau and Rue des Archives. The Metro and several bus routes are also nearby. Alison was very considerate and attentive. She was quite concerned that the Internet connection and some of the phones were not working properly. (They were fixed by the end of the week.) This was only a minor inconvenience, however, and did not interfere with our enjoyment of Chez Landes. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to feel right at home in Paris.

We loved this apartment! I and my family have rented several apartments in Paris and this is our favorite one by far. It is very nice, clean, quite and in a wonderful part of the City. The owner (Allison was our contact) was wonderfully helpful and the Marais neighborhood and resturant guidebook they provide you is priceless. We'll definately return to this apartment. My advice is stay as long as you can; there is so much to see in Paris and in the immediate area.

As previous guests have noted in words far better than I can express, a week chez Landes is, for the exuberant tourist as well as the experienced traveler a dream come true. From the moment we walked into the Landes apartment we knew we had made the right decision. My family members ranged from the cerebral to the “Let’s Party” type and we all found what we sought in and around the apartment. Only minutes from wonderful markets, restaurants, access to the subway, buses, the batobus, even an Irish Pub. French dining is great and we enjoyed it to the max, but we also enjoyed within a few blocks excellent Chinese “importer” (take-out) and at L’As du falafel, fantastic falafel and the best jelly donuts in Paris for breakfast. I have lived in New York for years and spent considerable time in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Rome, but there is no place in the world that can compare to Paris, and the Landes family apartment is the perfect jumping off point from which to experience it. My family members are already making plans to stay again during the coming year. P.S. The Landes also have a fantastic library for when your feet give out! Guide and Travel books galore. Professor Landes book on the global economy which was in a library in a third bedroom that we rented separately started to open a whole new world for me and I ordered it as soon as I got back. My advice: You only live once, do it right, chez Landes

YOURS IS THE 5TH APARTMENT WE HAVE RENTED OVER THE PAST 7 YEARS AND IT IS HANDS DOWN THE VERY BEST. YOU HAVE MADE THE PLACE COMFY, ATTRACTIVE AND VERY WELL EQUIPPED. THE FRIDGE IS HUGE BY LOCAL STANDARDS AND THE WASHER/DRYER ARE A BONUS. THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS FAMILIAR TO US AND GREAT FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AS WELL AS TAXIS. THOUGH WE DIDN'T SPEND MUCH TIME IN THE APARTMENT SINCE OUR STAY WAS RELATIVELY SHORT WE ABSOLUTELY HOPE TO RENT THIS AGAIN NEXT TIME WE ARE IN PARIS!

The Perfect two couple apartment in the Marais

My husband and I and our adult son and his wife had the best time in this apartment. Not only was the location perfect---we could walk to just about everything we wanted to see--the owners thought of absolutely everything one might need or want while staying there--even a laptop was sitting on the desk for our use! The apartment is spacious and squeeky clean and we plan to stay there again as soon as we can! It made our Paris experience absolutely wonderful! We've rented apartments in the Marais twice before and we finally found the one to which we will always return!

this was posted in our guest book in the apartment: To Alison - and all of the Chez Landes family, after a whirlwind week in Paris, we have our first quiet five minutes while waiting for our taxi. Just want to take a moment to thank the people we have never met but whose hospitality we so thoroughly enjoyed. I can't tell you how much we discussed Alison's suggestions and directions and referenced Alison by name! All because of your well thought out directions and helpful hints. And the warmth of the apartment and the personal touches made it so much more than a place to stay! Our favorite "discovery" was the Monjul restaurant on Blanc Manteaux I think - actually recommended to us by the people at Gaigne when we could not get in at the last minute. Also- loved the Sunday morning market at the Bastille and beyond. And all of Paris! Thanks again.

More great comments! We just stayed eight wonderful days at Chez Landes. The set up is just perfect for two couples or a family - a bedroom and bathroom on each side of the living room. Plenty of privacy, but a roomy and comfortable living/dining/kitchen area for relaxing and being together for meals or down time. The location could not be more perfect. The Marais is a great neighborhood on its own, and it is perfectly situated to be within walking distance for all of the Paris attractions. And if you prefer the Metro, it is just a few short blocks away. We loved this apartment, and highly recommend it (except when we want to use it!!!)

I could just echo the raves in the previous comments. My wife and I and our 13-yr. old niece had a great two-week stay. Being in an apartment is much better than being in a hotel, especially with a 24-hour gardien. The apartment is extremely comfortable, home-like, and completely equipped for cooking. And plenty of room -- it's bigger than it looked to me in the web-site pictures. The location and neighborhood are great, both for visiting Paris in general and just for living in. We'll go back.

I would highly recommend this apartment to any one visiting Paris. My parents and daughter and I stayed here for 2 ½ weeks and had the time of our lives. Staying in an apartment is so much better that a hotel. The apartment was spacious and well furnished. We felt right at home there. The complex was safe and very well kept. It has a beautiful formal garden that we enjoyed from our balcony every morning over coffee. The neighborhood was the best. There are cafes, bakeries, restaurants, shops and stores all within walking distant. I especially liked this neighborhood because it wasn’t a tourist trap it is real neighborhood. The owners of the apartment gave us a detail list of all the business around that was so helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much we hope to return and will definitely reserve this apartment early because I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

We just came back from a 1 week stay that was absolutely fabulous. The apartment is conveniently located in 1 of the most fashionable areas of Paris with accessibility to many fine restaurants, shopping, and museums. The accommodations are first rate - the apartment is spacious, modern, well appointed and has great views of Paris through 3 French windows in the living room. Free internet service and phone service back to the U.S. are great "pluses". We can't wait to go back again!
