Location: Lake Roxboro, Heartland, North Carolina, USA (75 Min NW of Raleigh, 45 Min N of Durham, Chapel Hill)
Accommodations: Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1.25 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: Cottage
With two bedrooms, plus a large loft, our lakefront cottage is the perfect retreat for a couple or small family.
Our home comfortably sleeps six (no one gets a convertible couch) and seats six around a large library table for meals, though families may prefer to eat on the screened in porch or the deck facing the lake. We offer one full bath and an outside shower, just for fun.
Built in the style of a traditional 1900's cottage, our home has a completely finished wooden interior, oriental carpets, salvaged doors, a claw foot tub and the look and feel of your grandparent's lakeside cottage.
With the highest cleanliness rating in the state, Lake Roxboro is only moderately developed and offers a refuge from the noise and activity of many nearby lakes. With 800 acres and 3 miles in length there is lots of room for water sports of all kinds.
Boating, swimming, wake tubing, sailing and fishing are available, but water skiing and jet skiing are prohibited. This makes Lake Roxboro a truly quiet haven for vacationers and the wildlife who call it home-bald eagles, osprey, great blue heron, beaver and even coyote.
While we appreciate the sound of silence, we are not strangers to modern convenience or media. We have a full kitchen with stove, two ovens, refrigerator, microwave and small appliances. We enjoy satellite TV, DVD, VCR and CD players. We have central AC.
At lakeside we have a floating dock with an adjacent boat ramp.
We also have a second screened in porch on our old-fashioned out building workshop.
Lake Roxboro does not appear on NC road maps, making it a hidden gem. It is located in Caswell County (25 minutes north of the historic town of Hillsborough) It appears on topo map books, that are available at bookstores like Barnes and Noble or Borders.

First of all, let me say that then photo's posted in the listing do not do the house justice. Lake Roxboro is clean, private and wonderfully undeveloped and the view from the dock and the deck on the house is stunning. If you're into "simple", with an old cabin feel then this is the place for you. We spent the first week of April here with our two kids, ages 11 and 13. We feared they would get bored but the combination of the satelite dish and a few strategically scheduled day trips helped a lot. the weather in early April is unpredicatble so we had a few very warm days and a few chilly days. The kids loved the canoe...my son and I fished off the dock. As a family we took several long walks down the dirt road that leads to the very secluded location. My wife took time to complete a puzzle and read a book. My kids spent less time in front of the tube in a long time! Words of warning to those who like pampered accomodations- this might not be your place. There's no stand up shower, no dish washer and your car is going to look like you tracked through the Baja after a few trips down the road. It's 25 minutes to a supermarket and internet cafe. We have Verizon and had a clear/strong cell signal in the house. Highly recommended as a quiet getaway.
