Location: Healdsburg, Russian River, Sonoma County, Wine Country, California, USA (20 minutes N of Healdsburg. 4 miles from Cloverdale.)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)
The cabin is an oasis of luxury in a setting of natural wildland, private homes and vineyards. There are luxury sheets and fluffy comforters on new plush mattresses in bedrooms with oak floors and private views. Our guests have commented the beds are the most comfortable they have experienced. The atmosphere in the dining and living rooms is warm with old fashioned candle-like chandeliers that create a pleasant glow. Copper accents such as the kitchen range hood, cooking pan rack and lighting add to the ambience.
The kitchen is fully furnished with every cooking utensil one could need for the preparation of gourmet meals from locally procured ingredients that you and your guests can enjoy in the dining room or outside under the arbor. The oven is convection; the range is instant gas. In-house catering can be arranged and you could come home to a waiting opulent feast after a day of biking, scenic touring or wine-tasting. Our caterers also do cooking classes, based on local fresh ingredients from Farmers Markets and other local Sonoma Select vendors.
The living room and dining room have huge windows for enjoying the view and wildlife. The bathroom has an antique copper sink, and a large slate glass-enclosed shower with a bench and bar-or-handheld showerhead. The water heater is on-demand, so you will not run out of hot water.
The home is very comfortable with climate-controlled heating/cooling and screened casement windows that open to catch the fresh summer breeze. It is furnished with cable HDTV, DVD player, WiFi internet access and land line telephone, a collection of DVDs and books emphasizing local literary connections (Jack London, Robert Louis Stevensen, MKF Fisher, Charles Schultz (Snoopy), Luther Burbank, Charles Crocker (about) who built the Central Pacific Railroad and once owned this property. There are also local area guide books and maps.
This gorgeous cabin is located at the valley level entrance to the historic Crocker Ranch hunting property that was owned by the railroad-era Crocker family in the 1800's. It was built when this area was developed in the mid last century and has just been fully
refurbished, retaining only the original oak floors and cedar logs. It is surrounded by oak woodland and has views of vineyards and mountains, but has a very private feel. Deer, gray squirrels, raccoons, jackrabbits, bobcats and foxes are seen; and acorn woodpeckers, titmice, western bluebirds, hummingbirds and great blue herons are daily visitors.
The setting is for those who love the country. The location is 4 miles from the small town of Cloverdale. This area in the Northern Alexander Valley is perfect for those who would like central proximity to a variety of California experiences. Within an easy drive are redwood groves (Armstrong Woods, 45 minutes and Hendy Woods, 45 minutes), spectacular beaches (60 minutes), shopping and wine tasting in Healdsburg, which is famous for its restaurants (20 minutes), the charming Mendocino County town of Hopland with wineries, a microbrewery and The Solar Living Institute (15 minutes), and the artist colony picturesque town named Mendocino on a bluff overlooking the ocean, with amazing shopping (90 minutes). Literary fans may want to visit Jack London State Park with its museum documenting the travels and ranching innovations of Jack and Charmain, his wife, where Jack lived the last 11 years of his short life (60 minutes drive).
Many major vineyard appellations are close, including Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, Russian River, Mendocino, Yorkville Highlands and Anderson Valley; and most wineries have tasting rooms.
Much, much closer activities include Russian River canoe or kayak trips (3/4 mile walk or drive), beautiful walks through the countryside (just out the front door), and watching great blue heron parents feeding their young from a lounge chair just outside the arbor.
WE CAN RECOMMEND WINERY TOURS AND RESTAURANTS, ARRANGE LIMOUSINE TRANSPORTATION AND GIVE ADVICE ON SCENIC TOURING AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT THE AREA.
