Mas des Hirondelles. In 2007 we bought this magnificent former farmhouse on 8000 meter of land (2 Acres), which had been partly restored. We completed the renovations to a very high standard, including two spacious master suites, two large bedrooms, 5 modern shower/bathrooms, modern kitchen with all appliances, modern laundry with both condenser and hot air dryers, complete furnishing with quality furnishings and attractive at work. All plumbing, septic, well, electric and alarm are completely up to modern standard.

As you stroll around the property you are in formal gardens at the rear with a swimming pool. The formal garden is accessed directly from the sitting rooms and is filled with white tea roses, tall hedges, and a magnificent spreading 80 year old Plane tree, under which there is dining space and tables for 12.

We have planted the front with a cypress-lined drive interspaced with lavender and specimen plants, and cultivated a large 2000 square meter flat lawn approaching the house. Both have garden lighting for the evening. The house is situated in the middle of apple orchards, but completely closed for privacy in with security fencing and an electronic gate.

The home has a warm ambience and is extremely roomy and comfortable at almost 500 sq meters (5000 sq ft) for several couples, or a family of up to eight. All windows are screened to keep out the inevitable buzz that is an integral part of Provence in the evenings and hot summer days.

Air Conditioning is “a la Provencal”, that is, you open the windows at night to capture the cool air, and keep them closed in the day to keep the heat out. All windows are screened. In the formal garden, and protected by a light beam pool alarm is the heated swimming pool, approximately 11 x 5 meters, as well as plenty of sun chairs and parasols for guest usage.

The downstairs has three large sitting rooms, one, the winter room has a fireplace, is cozy in the fall and serves as the TV/den, the second, the central room, also with fireplace serves as the reading room, and gives to the formal garden, the third is glassed and delivers marvelous light to serve as the morning room. Each is fully furnished with quality settees and comfortable chairs. There is also a full service laundry, a wine cooler, and a small study with Wi-Fi and Internet access.

The kitchen is a dream of marble with counter seating for five and an extensible table for 4 or more. The appliances are new and modern, and the kitchen is gadget and utensil equipped, to allow the aspiring chef to take full advantage of the regional market produce.

Outside, there is a tile-covered patio with dining for 6-8, a full fireplace barbeque, and a large Weber gas barbeque. There is additional outdoor dining for 4-6 off the glassed-in morning room.
The large laundry has washing machine, both condenser and hot air dryers, and a water softener for the home as well as a powerful steam iron.

The second floor contains four principal sleeping areas, one large master suite with en suite shower bathrooms, a second large master suite with two en suite shower rooms and, two large bedrooms each with en suite shower room. All facilities have toilets, and either double or single modern sinks.

Unusually, for France, each room is also equipped with several large closets, and drawer space to accommodate your stay. The beds are queen or king size equivalent, and extra long at 200 cm or 220 cm in length to provide maximum comfort. All linens are provided, as is weekly service.

Nearby is the famous "Paysan" market at Coustellet renowned for a massive display of fresh local produce, and the much smaller and more intimate market at Petit Palais. On the weekends there are the large markets at the antique specialist town of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and the vinicultural town of Apt to tempt your bargaining skills. Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, and St Remy are a short distance away.

Spend the day at market, or touring the local villages, peppered with great restaurants and wonderful sights and views. Go on a wine tasting tour of the valley to the numerous vineyards posting “degustation” invitations. Trundle back to the Mas and relax under the plane tree or by the pool and enjoy a pleasant lunch, or a barbeque in the evening. Take a glass by the river at a café overlooking the Sorgues river and let the sun disappear. This is Provence, live the Provence life.

The price of rental includes linen, electric, internet access, satellite TV, pool service, Alarm security service, garden maintenance, maid service, mid week, and check out, towels/pool towels, local phone, and internet phone to US/Canada/Western Europe.

Mas des Hirondelles is a non smoking home and prefers no pets due to the carpeting. Children over 8 who can be verified as swimmers will be accommodated on request only
