A lovely vacation with all needs met. Junior, the caretaker, was very helpful and not intrusive. We loved having access to the kayaks and paddle board. We kayaked through the mangroves to Jonesville and then out and around to the reef to snorkel. Snorkelling on the reef was a great experience and we had it all to ourselves. I enjoyed swimming right off the dock and feeding the fish. With coffee in hand we watched local children going to school on a boat and various fishermen in the bight. The cottage is beautifully situated on the ocean and well placed for driving to other parts of the island. We enjoyed a snorkelling trip on the catamaran Free Radical (Radical Adventures) which picked us up from Oakridge not too far up the coast. The house is in great condition, clean and well stocked. We found some great staples; various herbs and spices; salt and pepper; soy sauce and more. We mostly ate in but did visit a restaurant called Sirena? for an after snorkel lunch in Camp Bay. We had Lionfish and Grouper with rice and fresh vegetables and the home made key lime pie was delicious. The restaurant is small (seats 12) and is very picturesque perched on stilts, over the water with a thatched roof. There are quite a few steps to get to the cottage so you need to be able to deal with that. We did not have any trouble at all (we are in our early 60's) and on the sad day of our departure, Junior's grandson kindly carried our suitcases up to our car. We would recommend the cottage without reservation - peaceful, serene, and with Junior living at the entrance to Seagrove Retreat we felt quite safe.

We just came back from spending a month at the Boathouse. It was a wonderful time and we wouldn't have traded it for the world and hope to return next year. The property was lovely and well maintained. The boathouse is comfortable, has the basic spices and kitchen utensils and quickly felt like home. Junior, the caretaker, is extremely friendly and helpful and we miss him already. We chose not to rent a car and were told that trips to the grocery, etc. could be arranged or it is possible to rent a car from the property manager on a day by day basis. If you choose this route, be aware that you will be charged by the trip or if you rent a car from the property be aware that you will be renting an older private vehicle with no insurance and not in the greatest shape for the same price you can rent from Avis or Thrifty and you can arrange for drop off and pick up from the property. You can also call for a taxis. The property is equipped with kayaks, snorkeling and fishing gear, a paddle board and other fun stuff to keep you well occupied and happy. Be aware there are a lot of stairs and it is a steep climb, great for exercise but could be a problem is you have any physical or health difficulties. It isn't really an issue, but you should also be aware that because this is the "boathouse" if there are people in the main house you will be sharing the property, water equipment and dock and noise could be an issue. For large family groups you couldn't ask for a better set up. On "cruise" days there are tour boats that pass the house all day long. Don't get us wrong, we loved the place and we realize that most people will stay for a shorter amount of time and probably wouldn't even notice some of the things we did, but thought it was worth passing along. Any issues you might have, Junior will do whatever he can to fix it. We highly recommend kayaking into Jonesville and eating at Charlies. If you have a vehicle go out to the east end "up island" to Camp Bay Adventure Club and/or the Asylum or lunch and rum punches and Cal's is really good as well. Snorkeling at the mouth of the cove is amazing and beach combing is good as well. There is an octopus that lives right off the boat ramp, please say hello for us. Wishing we were still there instead of CO.

Owner response: We always appreciate guests who reflect on their stays and take the time to a write a review. Thanks so much. This helps future vacationers make the right choice in terms of location, service and accomodation comforts. It also gives us feedback on areas for improving guests satisfaction. Semana Santa week on the Island seems to be party time. While our secluded area is generally very peaceful this particular week can be a challenge, but it is this very diversity that makes Roatan so unique. We miss our octopus as well, he turns so many different colours. See you soon buddy, and hopefully your pal the eagle ray. Cheers, Paul
As in a dream!
As in a dream!
We spent 19 days in the wonderful dream Seagrove Casita. Frankin met us at the airport, we made ??a stop at the grocery store or we could find everything you need for a delicious meal. And we are already in this corner of paradise. It is so much more beautiful than 8the pictures! We as guests, the casita is welcoming, extremely clean, very well equipped kitchen, basic condiments, drinks in the fridge, king bed very comfortable, plenty of towels in the rarely seen ... in rentals. Franklin and Jr are very helpful and are always willing to make our stay memorable. Warren came to offer us fresh fish regularly. And a few meters ..... incredible snorkeling, hiking kayaking, mangroves and most typical villages. And again, we always felt safe. Our friends had rented from neighbors and it was not comparable to a few dollars more do not hesitate, please choose Seagrove. Francine & Alain, Québec

Owner response: Hi Francine and Alain, Thanks for your complimentary review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Casita. Franklin told us of about the big snapper you caught only to have it chomped in half in by a tarpin or barracuda. How frustrating. Canadians especially seem to enjoy our place. Hanging out on the large deck over the water in the shade and taking in the beauty of nature. The breezes and 85 degree tempreture warms the soul. Thanks for choosing our place and our only regret is that we did not get to meet you. Kind regards, Paul and Julie
Great Vacation Property!
Great Vacation Property!
My husband and I spent 10 days at the Seagrove Retreat. We had a great time and the house was perfect. It had everything we needed, including satellite TV for the times when we needed something to do! The gardens around it were beautiful. Franklin was available to answer all of our questions and help us with any arrangements we needed. Junior was very helpful and fun to visit with. We enjoyed swimming from the dock and spent lots of time kayaking around the mangroves and going to the reef to snorkle. It was very quiet and peaceful as there were few other people around. Franklin took us out in the boat and did some snorkeling with us. We rented a car, and because of the great location we were able to travel all over the island on day trips. We enjoyed being able to cook our own meals and spend time lounging around on the decks and floating around in the water. If you are looking for a place to relax and get away from crowds, this is the place. Thanks to Paul and Julie for sharing their home-it was perfect for our quiet vacation.

Perfect Caribbean Getaway
Perfect Caribbean Getaway
I loved this vacation home and its location. It is very nicely appointed and sets right over the water with a fabulous view of one of Roatan's most beautiful bays. Snorkel the bay directly from the house or go diving ~ they pick you up at the house and drop you off there. The house is very comfortable and decorated with beautiful local art. If there is a large family gathering, this casita can be combined with the main house to accommodate several families. Stock up on your way from the airport and relax the rest of the week. Cal's Cantina is not far away for a meal out. You will not be disappointed ~ this is no cabin ~ it is a very nice small home.

My husband and I stayed at Seagrove Retreat for three weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our vacation there. It is absolutely beautifully, well maintained and exactly as described.....Everyday we would kayak, snorkel the reefs and enjoy the quiet solitude of Caribe Point....There is no nightlife in the area so if you are looking for that this location would not be so ideal. It is more suited to those who enjoy being outdoors during the day enjoying the beautiful location on the bight....The property is wonderfully managed with a caretaker on the premises and his grandson Franklin who can answer any question you might have or fill any request...he can arrange a rental car, do an island tour or have a boat taxi pick you up at the dock.....we enjoyed paddling over to Jonesville in the kayak through the mangrove tunnels to get our groceries or grab a bite at one of the waterside cafes.....you would be hard pressed not to enjoy your time at Seagrove Retreat and we hope to someday be able to return to this hidden little piece of paradise.

Relaxing, Refreshing, & Remote Well Maintained Boathouse
Relaxing, Refreshing, & Remote Well Maintained Boathouse
My wife and I stayed at Seagrove Retreat for 10 days at the beginning of February, 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and found it a perfect place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The Boathouse is well appointed, well maintained, and its wood exterior and interior are very beautiful. The kitchen/dining/living area is spacious, with high ceilings and exposed trusses, and fronts onto a generous deck overlooking the water. The bedroom and bathroom are also nicely proportioned and well appointed. There are two neighboring houses close by, but the place itself is quite remote and quiet. We welcomed the fact that we had couples staying within shouting distance just to say "hi" to from time to time, and did not in any way find it intrusive. The snorkling (or diving) in the area is frankly the best I've ever seen, and that is in comparison to some stunning water I've seen in Hawaii. Vibrant coral gardens, dazzling carribean reef fish, and a "wall" that plummets down as far as the eye can see in clear waters was absolutely stunning. My wife and I like to cook, and enjoyed the kitchen layout and provisions. There are restaurants in the area, but candidly it is a vigorous kayak to get there and back. However, the trip through mangrove tunnels and past quaint local homes made it well worthwhile. We rented an enduro motorcycle from Captain Van's Rentals, which we used to tool around the Island. Lots of fun and exciting. If you intend to rent a car, it would be best to get a 4 wheel drive or something with excellent ground clearance, since the house is at the end of a dirt road which can get a bit muddy if it rains. The Island of Roatan is beautiful, and the people friendly. There are minor issues of petty crime, but common sense avoids trouble. Ask the wonderful caretaker Junior and his grandson Franklin on advice as to where to go and where to not go, and you'll be fine. We had no trouble at all. All in all this was a perfect "get away from it all" for us, and a wonderful opportunity to reconnect. I'd recommend it highly.

Seagrove Exceeds Expectations
Seagrove Exceeds Expectations
Mary and I thoroughly researched properties on the island and after visiting I know we chose the perfect spot to find peace, beauty and a bit of paradise. The accommodations exceeded our expectations. The workmanship and mechanical features were excellent. It was wonderful being on the water without maintaining a boat! Very comfortable sleeping and the professional staff on the property is a huge plus!! Very safe. Thanks for the use of the kayak's and fishing equipment. Wow, there was plenty of outdoor activities for us! Just for your information, the pictures do not do justice to the actual accommodations or surroundings. We have already recommended the property to our family and friends!
