About the house:
This traditional house was built in 1846. This white washed gem was built by locals using local stone. When renovating, we kept the traditional architecture and included modern conveniences such as plumbing and updated appliances.
The view of Kastro (remains of a Venetian castle) and amazing sunsets can be seen from living/dining room and stone patio. There is also a fully planted garden below and an entrance patio. Perfect to read a book, enjoy the sun or just relax. From patio you can also see the island of Naxos among many others.
The house has 105 sq. meters. Total land is 280.
The bedroom has a double bed while the large living room has a day bed (2 twin).
There is 1 new bathroom with shower only.
The kitchen has a full size refrigerator with freezer, a 3 burner stove/oven combination, microwave and laundry machine (washer). Go ahead ... pack light!
Shops, food market, restaurants and bus station are less than 5 minutes away.
Our friend Manny can meet you at the Ferry and help you settle in (daytime only).

About Amorgos:
Amorgos, known as The Hidden Gem of the Aegean, is an island with small traditional villages and crystal water beaches. The coastline is extremely rocky with sheer cliffs. The impressive Hozoviotissa Monastery, built in 1088, is wedged in the rock at 300 meters from the sea.
Hora, the medieval capital of Amorgos is a must see. The best sunsets are observed from the Kastro, remains of a Venetian fort.
The best way to get to know this low key island is to hike from the labyrinth alleys to the splendor of the sea.,
Amorgos is perfect for spending a great vacation without the crowds.
The island was featured in the film The Big Blue by Luc Besson

We spent 2 weeks in August 2011 in that quiet typical Cycladic house. The location is wonderful: just behind the house stand windmills and from the terrace you can embrace a 180° view on Hora and the sea (you can see Naxos island). You're welcomed at your arrival by Manny, a really nice US citizen living there all year round, a good friend of the owners. the house is well decorated, clean, functional. We had restful vacations.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The house has been renovated to a high standard and gives the visitor a lovely authentic experience. Located in the beautiful Hora, restaurants, bakery and shops are all within a stones throw yet the house is in a quiet area so if you want to get away and self cater you can. It is ideal for singles, couples or small families wanting to relax and get away from it all. Amorgos is not developed like other big Greek resorts and herein lies its charm. Hora is accessible by bus from the port but we found a car essential to be able to explore the island and beaches fully.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

The listing description is very accurate and the photos reflects the rental's appearance. Very quite location, amazing views, grocery, bars and restaurants - and the very center of Hora itself - within walking distance. The property was clean and very, very well maintained (you definitely perceive how much the owner loves this house from the way he keeps it for himself and his guests). What I can say to give a flavor of how much I liked it is that as soon as I stepped in, I immediately felt at home. The owner also provides you with a binder containing maps, directions, precious tips etc about Amorgos - which I strongly recommend to follow as they enable you to enjoy Amorgos at best. The house caretaker, Manny (US citizen, therefore English mother tongue, if you don't speak Greek), is available almost 24 hour a day for any assistance you may need with respect to the house. I also suggest to visit his wife's shop in Katapola (she's from the US too), the pome grenade, just 5 km away from Hora, where you can find ideas for fancy gifts. In few words, if you are looking for a unique Greek island, Amorgos is your island, and this house is the best place to stay. Hence, don't miss it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car.

Great period for me and my son in this nice house. the panorama is brethtaking, the house is simple, chic and full of details, the picture do not describes how beautiful is the place!! nothing you could need is missed. we wanted to stay at least other 2 weeks!! the 2 friends of the owner that take care of the house and come to pick you at the port are great and you can count on them all the time for every need. (she also has 2 nice shops in Katapola and Vroutsi) so....I made a great choice renting this house!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We visited this lovely house in Chora the last week of July 2009. The house is as described, spotlessly clean, beautifully renovated and looked after. The views are even better than in the photos and the whole place has a magical and timeless quality amidst the backdrop of the mountains, picturesque village and the sea. The house is quiet and private yet very convenient to shops and the excellent restaurants which are welcoming and good value. Our stay was unfortunately too short as you can spend a couple of days just wandering around, exploring and appreciating the charm of the village. It is perfect if you like a bit of variety to your holiday, hiking, music, eating, swimming, history, sightseeing etc. The scenery is absolutely stunning and there is the option of renting a car or just hopping on the regular buses that go to all parts of the island. We were met at the boat and delivered safely to the house by very helpful(English speaking) and welcoming friends of the owners who were on hand throughout our stay if needed. We highly recommend this house as a comfortable base to discover the captivating island of Amorgos and we hope to return one day.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

This house is a little gem. It is situated in the village of Chora, but is at the same time detached from it, so that the spectacle of the whitewashed Cyclades houses under the Venetian fort can be enjoyed from the house's terrace. The high elevation produces views of the Cyclades to the West as well as beautiful sunsets. The house sits just below a rocky ridge from which a path goes down the other (Eastern) side to Ayia Anna beach. It's certainly walkable, especially if you plan to walk back up when the cliff is out of reach of the (late afternoon) sun. Highly recommended: you'll have quiet and scenic beauty and very stylish accommodation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We were fortunate to stay in this delightful traditional home with modern amenities in August of 2007. The pictures of both the views and the house are simply not sufficient to capture how beautiful the place truly is...for example, opposite the castle are the remains of windmills perched directly on the hill behind you. Think Don Quijote in Greece! The home itself is charming and a short stroll into the unspoiled town where you'll find good restaurants and shops. Four of us stayed quite comfortably in the house (two adults and two small children). A constant breeze and cool nights provided pleasant sleeping conditions. The kids especially enjoyed the private second floor spaces to escape from the parents, draw, and play games. A rare treat, we look forward to a return visit.Did you find this review helpful? Owner info
Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: From left to right: Our friends Manny, Rita with kids Thomas & Isabella (full time island residents) Mike, Carla and kids Nicholas & Julia
Why the Owner Chose Hora:
We purchased the house after visiting other 14 Greek Islands. We chose Amorgos for its beauty and character. Since our first visit in 1996, not much has changed. We were very fortunate to find and renovated this house. All materials were carried by donkey ... can I say more???
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is located in the island's medieval capital, Hora. It is the last house on the alleyway making it very private and quiet. It's is less than a 5 minute walk to shops, restaurants and transportation. The house has amazing views.
