The Spotted Grouper - Old Florida Beach Bungalow

Wonderful

The Spotted Grouper is a relaxing, wonderful, peaceful place to stay. Away from the hustle and bustle of Panama City or Destin, this is a great locale to experience the beach as it should be; no crowds, crabs everywhere, and shells galore! My grandson was so excited to be able to find whole shells, and the four month old turned into a beach bum in an hour! Ate supper at Posey's in Panacea and had excellent seafood and some great oysters on the half shell. I hope to return soon!

We just returned from a 3-day stay at the Spotted Grouper and we had a wonderful trip. The house was very cozy and felt like home away from home. The house had everything that one would need. The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, dishes, etc...The house was roomy enough for four people to move about comfortably. A great view of the ocean from the house and a short walk to a secluded beach. Only saw a few people the entire weekend. It was a wonderful getaway and we can't wait to go back for a longer stay. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

We just returned from a wonderful 4 days at the Spotted Grouper...it was all it was listed to be. We went with our daughter and 22 month old grandson. This is a wonderfully equipped beach house, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We really appreciated the high chair! We had a great time on the beach and the view from the living room is wonderful. We would recommend visiting Wakulla Springs and the state park at the end of the road. When you need groceries we would suggest going into Crawfordville to the Winn Dixie or the Walmart. The store in Panacea is very expensive...but the seafood stores are great.

Loved our Spotted Grouper experience!

Our family enjoyed the wonderful homey atmosphere at 'Spotted Grouper" !! It actually feels as if it is your own little beach cottage. The owners were very helpful. Ask for WeeSe's complete directions in the Gazette if you book. My husband and two teens and myself did not want to leave. The area is so quiet and is a great nature retreat, with fishing piers(at state parks in the area), walking trails, beaches that are very remote and yet St. George Island is only 30ish miles away. One day, we went to St. George Island and enjoyed the state park on the end of the island. In the large waves, the guys hooked several keepers of sea trout which were delicious . The beaches were almost empty and very wide. On another day, we visited Wakulla Springs, the largest spring in America! It becomes a river. We went on the riverboat tour ($8. each) and WELL worth it. Old Tarzan movies and the Swamp Monster movies were filmed here. There is a great swimming area and diving platform to dive into the mouth of the spring!! The beach at Alligator Point is narrow and the waves were very mild and the water is very shallow. During low tide, it is almost out of sight. The marine life on Alligator Point is very accessible: would be great for small children. At high tide, one could walk out very far and only be waist deep. The screened in front porch was very handy for wet clothes; there was a retractable clothes line and the washer and dryer and places for the fishing gear and the bugs were kept at bay. The living room was exceptionally comfortable with wonderful reclining chairs (2) and sofas(2) and handy side tables and entertainment center. There is a hat rack with beach hats. On the antique sideboard, there are journal entries from others who have stayed here and the most interesting entries from the owners who took the time the record the remodeling of the 'Grouper'. The kitchen is very well stocked ( at our visit) and so is the bathroom. It was like walking into your own home. We opted to clean it ourselves when we left. With all hands on deck, it took us about 1 and 1/2 hours to do the list and it was very easy with the list on the refrig and in the Gazette( which is emailed to you after you book the "Spotted Grouper". I do not believe anyone would enjoy this area if they want a resort experience. This is an experience for those who want to own a beach cottage vicariously, nature lovers, peace and quiet lovers, and fishermen-women. Thanks J and W.
