Tarcoles house description
ATTENTION BIRDERS, NATURE LOVERS AND HIKERS; Casa Maganda is surrounded by the rainforest and is a mere 3 minute drive to the entrance of Carara National Park!!!
Why stay in a crowded hotel or a condominium building, when for about the same price you can relax in the privacy of your own 2,700 square foot modern home with private pool?
Casa Maganda is located in the popular Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Casa Maganda is located only 33 miles from the international airport in the capital city of San Jose. The main entrance of the beautiful Carara National Park is less than 3 miles from Casa Maganda. Los Suenos Marriott Resort, Herradura Beach, and Jaco Beach are all within a short 15 to 20 minute drive. The city of Quepos and the Manuel Antonio National Park are only about an hour's drive down the scenic 'Costanera Highway.' Casa Maganda is located on the bank of the tranquil Tarcolitos River and has an amazing view of the adjoining tropical rainforest covered mountains.
ON SITE STAFF
The biggest challenge with renting a vacation home in a foreign country is that most of the time the guests are completely on their own. There is literally no one to call if there is a problem with a stopped up toilet, leaky faucet, etc. What truly sets Casa Maganda apart from the vast majority of vacation home rentals is our friendly and helpful on-site staff who make absolutely certain that your family’s vacation is comfortable, safe, and worry free. Buck Jackson is our property manager who lives a couple of hundred yards down the street. Buck will be there to check you in, show you around the property and take care of any issues that might come up. Buck will also help you with ideas and suggestions of things to see and do in Costa Rica. Buck’s assistant is Nelson, who lives about a mile away in Tarcoles. Nelson is Buck’s handyman and assists Buck with any maintenance or repair issues. Noilyn is our housekeeper and she will make sure that the house is clean and spotless when you return from your daily excursions.
They are all like family to us and they take pride in making sure that your stay at Casa Maganda is a memorable one.
Casa Maganda has a truly awesome master suite with a huge walk-in shower with rainforest views, a 'jacuzzi' tub big enough for two, a walk-in closet, king size bed, a 30' plasma HDTV, deiling fan, incredible views of the lush tropical rainforest, and its own access to the back yard and pool area. In addition, there are two large guest bedrooms with a large shared bathroom with dual sinks and a walk-in shower. Each bedroom has its own remote controlled a/c unit.
Casa Maganda has three living areas! One is a secluded seating area which is absolutely perfect for quiet reading or a peaceful afternoon nap. The second is an indoor garden atrium with dozens of tropical plants and a peaceful water fountain. The third doubles as the TV room and is combined with the kitchen to make it the perfect gathering place to watch the 42' plasma TV, listen to music, or play games. There is also an IPod Dock to connect your IPod to the TV speakers so that you can listen to your own music. Each living area has its own remote controlled a/c unit.
KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM:
The modern kitchen has granite counter tops and is fully equipped with plates, glasses, utensils and modern stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, stove top, oven, microwave and refrigerator with ice maker, blender, coffee maker, toaster, etc. The adjoining semi-formal dining room has a table and chairs that comfortably seat six persons.
POOL AND DECK:
Just outside the kitchen door is the spacious deck and pool. The deck has a table with an umbrella and four chairs, and two chaise lounges. The deck is great place to enjoy breakfast and watch for Scarlett Macaws. We have seen as many as eight Scarlett Macaws in our backyard at the same time! In the afternoon it is the perfect place to relax in the warm sun while you enjoy an Imperial beer (the National Beer of Costa Rica!!) or a glass of wine and re-live the adventures of the day, or simply cool off in the pool.
SERENITY, YET CONVENIENT TO ADVENTURES AND ACTION:
Casa Maganda is the perfect location for your Costa Rican vacation. Casa Maganda's location on the Tarcolitos river in the rainforest provides you with the unique opportunity of watching for rare Scarlet Macaws, Toucans, humming birds, and 100's of other bird species from the privacy of your own pool and deck. Yet you are less than 20 minutes from the exciting nightlife and restaurants of the Los Suenos Resort and Jaco Beach, the most popular tourist, shopping, and surfing destination on the entire Central Pacific Coast. It is literally minutes away from dozens of attractions such as Carara National Park, Pura Vida Gardens, the village of Tarcoles and the Tarcoles River where you can book tours to view birds and crocodiles, as well as several near-by canopy tours with zip lines, hanging bridges, and rainforest trams, golf, horseback riding, world-class sport fishing, surfing, fine dining, and casinos.
SECURITY: Equipped with an modern ADT security system as well as motion-activated exterior lights.
EXTRA LARGE GROUPS AND FAMILIES:
For those with extra large families or groups, Casa Maganda is located next door to another home, Casa Tica Linda which may also be booked. Please see VRBO #265820 for a complete description of Casa Tica Linda. The two units together can accommodate up to twelve persons.

The moment we drove up to Casa Maganda we were amazed at how meticulously maintained and beautiful the area was, especially since it was right in the middle of a rainforest! As soon as we drove up to the house and pulled into the gate we saw a protected port that was perfect for our rental car. We were greeted shortly after our arrival by Buck who made sure fresh, local fruit was there for us and even brought a pound cake that his wife had made. Buck answered all of our questions about the property and Tarcoles and made sure to let us know about all the wonderful things we should do. Everyone in Tarcoles knows Buck and will sometimes offer you a discount on a tour if you mention his name. He was kind enough to book a fishing, hiking and snorkeling adventure for us!
As soon as you walk into the house you’ll see a gorgeous atrium with a huge sky-lit roof and calming fountain. The whole house is built around this beautiful room. Behind the atrium is a cozy TV room and media center that is attached to the kitchen. The TV was big enough for all of us to watch and the media center had a monitor for the security cameras around the property. The kitchen had everything we needed and even included a really neat pineapple slicer that made coring and slicing pineapples a snap. We were able to keep the outside of our pineapples and use them as cups! The granite countertops, modern appliances and beautiful wooden cabinets allowed us to prepare all sorts of wonderful meals. We also used the outdoor grill to prepare fresh fish and chicken tacos.
There are plenty of seating areas around the house where we could relax with our laptops and Kindles using the WiFi connection. We were even able to stream music outside from our favorite internet stations while lounging by the pool. If you continue walking down the backyard you can see a river behind the property called the “Tarcolitos”. There are steps that lead down from the backyard and you can stick your feet in if you’d like. We were able to hike to the waterfall that feeds this river by driving up the road a few kilometers.
The bedrooms in the house were super comfy. There’s a maid that comes every day to tidy up and make the beds, plus she can do special chores such as laundry if you leave a nice tip. Each room had its own AC unit which made sure everyone was comfortable. The two double bedrooms were perfect for my friends and were connected by a large bathroom with its own shower and double sinks. There was enough privacy and space for everyone. I chose the master bedroom with a King Size bed, Jacuzzi tub, huge shower and double sinks. This bed was so comfortable and luxurious, only the smell of amazing Costa Rican coffee could get me out! I also really enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub, especially after the 4 hour hike we took to see the waterfalls. There’s a shorter way to view the waterfalls through the entrance of Pura Vida gardens without going on the big hike we did.
This was the perfect place to experience Pura Vida and indulge in everything Costa Rica has to offer.

Away from it all!
We had a lovely time in Tarcoles. The house is absolutely beautiful, very comfortable, and spacious. It was just what we were looking for - a place "away from it all" where we could see and hear birds in the morning. Probably the most unique thing about the house is that we saw and heard scarlet macaws in the backyard! It was so nice, us being birders, to be near Carara National Park. We aren't "party" types and we like to just take it easy and cook at home, so the location of the house was perfect for us. We had a great time going to the locals beach just down the street every night to watch the sunset. . Thank you for all your help and advice!!

It's A Jungle Out Here!
It's A Jungle Out Here!
Our family loved the serenity and privacy Casa Maganda offered. Early morning was enjoyed with a cup of coffee by the pool, listening to the sounds of birds. On several occasions Scarlet Macaws flew by, once roosting in the tree in the backyard. Each morning a pair of Toucans could be found eating papayas from a neighboring tree. The house is spectacular and very comfortable. We especially loved all the large windows throughout Casa Maganda. They offered beautiful views of the foliage in every direction. Though the house is secluded, there was a lot to do within a short car ride - Restaurants, Carara Park, Gringo Bridge, Grocery Store, Casino, and Tours.

Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Just returned from 5 days at Casa Maganda and loved every minute. The house is beautiful, very comfortable and centrally located near excellent restaurants. It is perfect for relaxing by the pool or hiking thru the jungle and seeing monkeys and scarlet macaws. We really enjoyed experiencing the local culture and the Ticos (local people) were friendly. Some of the highlights of our trip were Inka Grill, Pura Vida Gardens, Carara and the Crocodile Man Tour. We highly recommend Casa Maganda and can't wait to make a return visit.

Lovely and convenient
The house is lovely and very convenient to many great sights. We particularly enjoyed the Carara rain forest. We had lunch at the Inka Grille and it was the best.

This was our first time to Costa Rica & Casa Maganda served as an excellent central location to explore this part of the country. We did the "Crododile Man" tour and saw some great wildlife.

Tropical LivingGuest comment entered by owner
I stayed at Casa Maganda April 2009. My first trip to Costa Rica. The house is well appointed with a comfortable feel of tropical living; we felt very much "at home". While having breakfast one morning on the patio, I was joined by a scarlet macaw. I chose this location for the beauty and solitude. I was most pleased with my trip and my stay at Casa Maganda.

My husband and I spent our 10th Anniversary in Costa Rica in November 2009. We were completely satisfied with Casa Maganda not only by its beauty but its quiet, secure, and very serene setting. We enjoyed several mornings by the pool listening to the beautiful sounds of the rainforest. The house is located within driving distance to several restaurants and hot spots and we were lucky enough to play with a whiteface monkey on one of our tours.

About the owner: Our names are Steve and Bobbie Sheets. We live in Round Rock, Texas, which is just 20 miles north of Austin. I am an attorney and Bobbie is retired after over 20 years of teaching eighth grade English. We have one son, Travis. The bird's name is Blue Boy and he leads a pampered life at Pura Vida Gardens, which is just 10 minutes up the mountain from our house in Costa Rica.
Why the Owner Chose Tarcoles:
We first visited Costa Rica in January of '07 and it was literally love at first sight. Five months later we returned to Costa Rica in search of a vacant lot to purchase as an investment. To make a long story short, we ended up purchasing Casa Maganda. Costa Rica has since become our second home. We spend as much time there as we can. We still can't believe that we actually own a little piece of paradise!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Because Casa Maganda is on the edge of the rainforest, it is tempting to relax and to just soak in and enjoy the nature that is all around you. And yet, within a 30 minute drive, there are literally dozens of exciting things to see and do. It is great to relax when you want to, but there is no reason for anyone to ever get bored. We try to spend 5 to 6 weeks a year in our Costa Rican home, but we still have not seen and done everything in our immediate area, much less in Costa Rica. Our on-site staff is one major benefit that you will not find in many vacation rental homes.
