Lovely, private Half Moon Bay is home to Playa Caribe #5. Located midway between the points of the bay, the views from your balcony of the second floor center unit are breathtaking. The ocean can be viewed from everywhere in the condo!
The Playa Caribe building, which contains 12 units and 3 casitas, is beautifully maintained and provides purified water from our own onsite Reverse Osmosis plant. You will never have to worry again about accidentally brushing your teeth with the tap water. The water even tastes good.
Playa Caribe #5 is a luxury condominium providing all the amenities you would have at home: linens, full kitchen, pool, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, DVD, VCR, iPod player, CD player, etc. Add to this the daily maid service and you will not want to back home! Just because you have a kitchen doesn't mean you have to cook. A short walk up or down the beach leads to two excellent beachside restaurants: La Lunita and La Buena Vida. There are many restaurants to chose from.
Half Moon Bay is a premiere snorkeling spot. Turtles build their nests on the beach and, if you are visiting during the summer months, you may see the babies hatch and make their dash to the water.

Dear Annie and John, Thank you for sharing your special place with us. Everything was perfect!! Your condo is beautifully decorated and well stocked for comfort and functionality. We have been to this area many times, but Akumal is the most centrally located place to stay and we would come again. Coba and Rio Secreto were very easy drives and, of course, the lagoon is around the corner. We spent the $20 for the Palapa at the lagoon and felt it was worth it for the entire day. Not to mention the great snorkeling and sea life right out front. Overall, a relaxing, fantastic vacation. Nice Friday Night lobster dinner for our 15th anniversay at La Lunita. Thanks for the great reference library, maps, brochures, reef books, etc.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are happy to hear you used our reference library. We like to have maps, guide books and identification books available for our guests to enjoy. We hope you visit our condo again soon! Annie and John

My husband and I spent the last four days of our vacation at Playa Caribe#5. We were totally happy with the condo. Spotlessly clean and smells so fresh. Large master bath with great water pressure which we were so happy about after four days on the Tulum beach in a cabana with hardly a trickle for a shower. Bed very comfortable and linens very nice. Games, music, great Mexican art and decor. And greatest of all, a truly spectacular view. We could see turtles bobbing their head in the bay and the color of the water is amazing. The staff were so nice and helpful. We rented bikes from the manager, Agustine, and rode back and forth from the main Akumal bay to snorkel, shop and eat. Also, Annie, the owner, was a pleasure to work with and helped make our stay there so special. We can't wait to visit Akumal and Caribe #5 again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+.

The view from your balcony and snorkeling in Half Moon Bay is second to none! My daughter was so excited to see her first octopus snorkeling one morming. Playa Caribe is truly magical and your unit is perfect in every way. We can't wait to go back to PC #5, the staff and amenities are first class.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

This is a beautiful condo with an awesome view! Playa Caribe Condos are the best on this stretch of beach and have all the amenties you need including filtered water system throughout and a swimming pool. You can stroll on the beach, snorkel out your front door or walk into town to local restaurants and shops. We spent New Year's at the La Buena Vida... great bar on the sand and 2 doors down the street. There are endless activities for all ages in the area (we enjoyed snorkeling in the cenotes!) or simply spend the day on a lounge chair on the beach and never leave the property. We would go back again and again. We love Akumal!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are happy to hear that you and your family had a wonderful stay at Playa Caribe #5. Just let us know when you want to come back! Annie and John

We had a wonderful time in this condo in December 2011. We arrived at night and were greeted by Augustin (the night guard), and in the morning by Augustine (the day time manager). The condo was fabulous and airy and bright. There was everything we could need and want. This unit has 180 degree views and is literally feet from the beach. The beach there is best for snorkeling, and a short walk from good swimming beaches. The location is one of the best in Akumal, which is tranquil and upscale. The staff was incredible—attentive, friendly and charming. We saw turtles in the waters outside the condo and had incredible meals in town. I would recommend this place to anyone. Thanks especially to Patricia who kept the condo clean with grace and ease. I treated my daughter, son and daughter-in-law, and myself to a week at Playa Caribe condominiums. Our only complaint was the week was just not enough time to enjoy all Half Moon Bay/Akumal had to offer. The staff was just wonderful. Agustin called to make all our arrangements because none of us spoke Spanish. We especially loved the spectacular view from our condo, a center unit. The center units have ocean views from all windows. We loved sitting on the deck watching the turtles pop their heads up for air. We plan to return and rent the condos on either side so we can share the experience with the whole family. The grandkids, now teenagers, will love it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

This was an incredible place to spend a week! Once my girlfriend and I got dropped off in front of the condo we didn't get into a car for the rest of the trip. The condo was perfectly situated for walking everywhere and the views off the bay-facing balcony were spectacular... a great vantage point from which to sip coffee and read each morning before heading down to the beach to snorkel among the coral formations and turtles or lounge under the palapas with a beer. I loved the style and decorations of the condo and the kitchen was fully and perfectly equipped for whipping up gourmet meals. It was peacefully quiet in the evenings and the rhythmic sounds of the ocean just outside and down from the bedroom window were great for falling asleep to after a long day of playing in the sun.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

Our week-long stay at Playa Caribe #5 could not have been more perfect! Getting from the Cancun Airport to the condo was absolutely seamless, thanks to our driver, Domingo, who we hired at the owners' recommendation. From the moment we walked in the door, we were flat-out stunned. The beautifully decorated, spacious front room of the condo opens up to a second-floor deck overlooking the ocean. This is where we spent most of our time, sipping coffee in the morning, or wine in the evening, and watching the turtles as their little heads would pop up for a breath of fresh sea air. The bedrooms are spacious and private, and the kitchen is perhaps even more well-equipped than the one in my own home. After staying a couple of days, I was convinced that this was also the cleanest rental I had ever stayed in. My absolute favorite part of my vacation at Playa Caribe #5 was the snorkeling, access to which is directly in front of the condo. We snorkeled twice a day on most days, alternating between snorkeling and lounging under a palapa on the beach in front of the condo. We saw the most amazing sea life, including turtles, stingrays, eels, and countless brightly-colored tropical fish. We were even lucky enough to witness a nest of baby turtles hatching; it was just magical! The staff in the office were extremely friendly and helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. On one of our final nights, we dined at La Lunita, a very romantic beachside restaurant, where we sat outside with our toes in the sand, sipped margaritas, and watched the sunset. The food was excellent, the ambiance dreamy. We can't wait to return to Akumal, and when we do, we will definitely stay at Playa Caribe #5, hopefully with a few of our friends next time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

We had a girl's adventure here at Playa Caribe #5. We felt safe in this building and in the whole area. In fact, we traveled down to Tulum by colectivo with no problems at all. Condo #5 is the center unit on the second floor. It was welcoming, comfortable and we felt very much at home. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils we needed. We appreciated being able to drink the water from the faucet. The whole condo was air conditioned, not just the bedrooms. There were books and games available. Also, a good selection of music. I learned to snorkel in the pool, then ventured out into Half Moon Bay. We saw eagle rays, turtles and too many fish to name. The water was so warm and comfortable! We enjoyed both of the restaurants right on HMB, just a short walk in the sand from the condo. Lucy's ice cream and shrimp tacos were a treat! Lots of good food to enjoy in the area. I am looking forward to returning to #5 with my husband next summer.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

"Wow" is what I said when we first walked in. Such a fantastic view of that beautiful turquoise ocean. The condo is very well equipped and the staff helpful and friendly. It was great being able to drink the water from the tap. Watching turtles pop their heads up while sitting on the balcony was so much fun. And even more fun to watch them while snorkeling. Having delicious restaurants a short walk away was very convenient. A nice condo and good location for a fabulous vacation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Hi from John and Annie. We are happily retired* in Bishop, California, after thirty plus years living on Donner Summit, in the mountains above Lake Tahoe, enjoying the skiing, hiking, climbing and coping with massive amounts of snow. Bishop is on the eastern side of the Sierras and is a playground for athletes. We moved here to rock climb year round and to get away from the snow. Even though we don't get much snow here, we still like to head south to lovely Half Moon Bay for part of January and February. *John was a ski school director and climbing instructor. Annie was a teacher, mainly in kindergarten.
Why the Owner Chose Akumal:
One morning in early Jan. 2005, after it had been snowing for a week and road closures were eminent, I decided I needed to get somewhere warm and welcoming. I had a photo of a condo on Half Moon Bay up on the 'frig that a friend had given to us at a Christmas party. After staring longingly at the photo, I started looking for a place to stay on HMB, not having any idea it was high season. Of course, nothing was available. One wonderful travel agent told me she had found a hotel room for us but told me to see if I could find a flight first. Oh, my. By the time I secured the flight and confirmed the hotel room, it was about 2:30 in the afternoon. We ran around throwing things in a couple of suitcases, jumped in the car and made the 3 1/2 hour drive up to Reno with white knuckles. Cars were spinning out all around us.
We spent that night in Reno and flew out the next morning. We had our feet in the sand that afternoon. It was love at first sight! Half Moon Bay is an absolutely magical place.
One day we wandered in to the realtor's just to check out prices but, when Tony asked if he could show us some properties, we thought it would be fun to look around. One of the properties was Playa Caribe #5. We fell under the spell of that fabulous view of Half Moon Bay from every room in the condo. We love to share our place with family and friends. It is our hope that our visitors will want to return often and think of it as their private get away.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
There seems to be two types of visitors to Half Moon Bay. Some fill every minute of every day with some new adventure: cenotes, diving, driving around, shopping, restaurants, cultural events, ruins, etc. Believe me, there is no end to all one can find to do in this area. We fit in with 'the others' who just love to hang out at Half Moon Bay. We bring about a million books and, when we aren't in the water snorkeling, we have our noses pressed to the pages. The diving is wonderful, but we just can't get enough of the snorkeling. I should add that another bonus to staying at Playa Caribe is meeting some of the very interesting people who stay there often.
