Enjoy a wonderful, low cost, Puerto Rico, vacation rental at our "House in the Hills" (Casa de Loma) on the beautiful East Coast of Puerto Rico. Located near Humacao, our three bedroom vacation rental comfortably accommodates parties of up to six people (eight with cots) in a modern, cheerful, quiet, and relaxed rural setting.
NEW SWIMMING POOL: We have recently installed a large, private swimming pool enclosed in a very private, garden courtyard. The pool is large enough for six adults or an entire family to enjoy at one time. It has lighting for night-time swims and is a wonderful addition to this cheerful home.

The interior of Casa de Loma was recently redecorated to reflect the architecture of historic Puerto Rico. (For a full "House Tour" see our Home Page link below.) Throughout our three bedroom home, a motif of archways was used in combination with Caribbean colors to create an inviting and relaxing feel in every room. A large, gracious porch provides a shady retreat all day and allows dining with a view. Two large tiled bathrooms are equipped with modern fixtures and showers. In the comfortable well-ventilated bedrooms, all beds are new and each room has its own ceiling fan. The house has ample parking, an emergency water supply, and a large yard with citrus, palm and flowering trees. If in season, feel free to pick your morning grapefruit.
The comfortable living room with white archways surrounded by faux stucco finish reflects the architecture of old San Juan. Twin modern love seats, with colorful wicker side chairs can easily be arranged to comfortably seat up to 8. A TV with Satellite Service offers 4 major US networks in English,plus other stations; a radio/CD/Tape player, and ceiling fans are all provided for your enjoyment. We offer guests a video library of more than 150 movies. Bring your laptop; there is a WiFi internet connection usable in any room of the house.
There is a full working kitchen and a laundry area. The kitchen includes a breakfast nook with a marble top table. Kitchen appliances include: electric cook-top range, double door refrigerator with ice maker, microwave, toaster oven, blender, and coffee maker. Complete cookware and dinnerware for eight are included. A small picnic cooler is provided for day trips.
The master bedroom features a queen-size bed, a large six drawer dresser, a plush side chair, and large tiled bathroom with a shower. A day and trundle bed allows 4 to sleep comfortably in the master bedroom. A second bathroom serves the two additional bedrooms. One of these bedrooms has two twin beds and walls decorated in "Hibiscus" pink. The other bedroom is painted in a bright, "Caribbean Sea" blue and features a double bed and windows on two walls.
A full-size dining area includes a table for six with comfortable chairs so that you can relax over a leisurely meal. The front porch overlooks the hills of Las Piedras, providing a quiet place to read and relax. Views of the yard include many flowering shrubs, banana trees that you are welcome to pick from, and an array of palms. The porch has an area that is large enough for dining. We often dine on the porch to view the pleasant pastoral setting and to enjoy the evening breezes.
Casa de Loma, is in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico. Las Piedras is a suburban community high in the hills just west of Humacao. The house is a 45 minute drive from Puerto Rico's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan. It is situated more than 1000 feet above sea level, overlooking striking vistas, including rugged mountain ridges, pasture lands and neighborhoods of Caribbean/Spanish architecture. The vacation rental surroundings are lush, verdant and tropical. Palms, citrus trees and yucca plants abide. Flowering bougainvillea, poinsettia, flamboyant and hibiscus color the hillsides. On a clear morning, as you descend the hill to town, your views will include spectacular vistas of the El Yunque Rainforest summits.

Jim and Marilyn Meighan have been renting vacation homes in Puerto Rico since 2000. They believe that Puerto Rico is a wonderful island to tour, offering many unique experiences not found in the US, Canada, or Europe. They reside in New Hampshire, but travel frequently to Puerto Rico to manage their properties and enjoy the island, it friendly people and its rich history and culture. in their first decade of vacation home ownership, they have had more than 500 guests visit one or more of their 4 homes.

Casa de Loma is quite comfortable and had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed the private pool. The veranda for breakfast and in the evening with a glass of wine. Even though the temps in 80s when we were there, the cool evening air, the constant breezes and the ceiling fans kept us very comfortable. The area seemed very safe. It is a neighborhood with tasteful and well maintained homes...and you are only a short drive from town. We used the location as a jumping off point to do exploring -since this was our first visit to Puerto Rico outside of a few stays in Old San Juan. Las Piedras is very convenient. We headed north one day for a visit to the Las Cabezas Nature Center which was very interesting - we wished we had planned more time so that we could have done the Bio Bay kayak trip in the evening...that sounded amazing..... and we spent one day in Ponce (to the south) visiting their Art Museum (which was exceptional), the Museo Castillo Serralles mansion, and spending some time in town visiting the Cathedral, fire house (uniquely restored and now a museum),and the town square...just soaking up the scene and a little of the culture. If you are looking to experience Puerto Rico - not just sit on beach at a resort - do some exploring and have a beautiful, comfortable place to relax in between your adventures, this home is perfect. Plus owners Jim and Marilyn were very gracious and helpful and gave us detailed guides for dozens of possible trips and adventures that proved invaluable. We are planning on heading back in the late spring to experience more of Puerto Rico.
