Year Purchased: 2005
I live in New York City where I represent photographers for advertising assignments. To balance my busy city life with a serene country environment I go to my Woodstock retreat. When I walk in the wildflower gardens and hear bluebirds singing my heart opens. From my farmhouse windows I can see the majestic mountains change from lush green at dawn to purple at dusk. At night the star gazing is incredible. Seeing snowfall on the pine trees brings peace. I love to sit on my front porch and breathe in the mountain air. Taking the nearby waterfall hike in the forest, sitting by the cool running mountain water brings clarity.
Why the Owner Chose Woodstock
I chose the Catskills because in my 20's I would visit on day trips but at the end of the day I never wanted to go home! I visited again in 1994 for the 3-day Woodstock Music Festival and fell in love. When I returned to Woodstock with friends on my 40th birthday I knew I had to stay forever. This farmhouse is only a 2 hour drive from my Brownstone in NYC. I wake up to amazing mountain views, privacy and wildlife. Nearby Woodstock village has local music, art, delicious dining and small town American kindness.
The Unique Benefits of this Farmhouse
My farmhouse in spring and summer is perfect for relaxing and dining on the outdoor porches overlooking wildflower gardens, trees and mountains. Nearby you can mountain climb at the Mohonk Mtn. Preserve, hike up Overlook Mtn. to see old ruins, walk forest trails to secret waterfalls, go tubing down the Esopus, swim in Big Deep. In winter downhill and cross country ski at Hunter and Belleayre mountains. Come back home to soak in the outdoor hot tub and indoor jacuzzi or lounge by the fireplace. Dining is 5 star at local eateries The Bear Cafe, The Red Onion and Cucina Restaurants. Listen to local music at the Colony Cafe, Bearsville Theatre, John Street Jam or Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble.
