Location: Bennington, Vermont, USA (3 1/2 Hours from NY and Boston. 6 Miles S of Bennington, VT)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)
This warm, sunny, 3 story, 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, architect-designed house is beautifully situated in open fields on 200 acres of land with spectacular, tri-state, 180 degree views of the Berkshire, Green and Taconic Mountains.
The house looks out onto the farmlands of the Pownal Valley and offers the quiet, remoteness and seclusion of the deep countryside while providing access to a rich variety of local sporting and cultural activities. Pownal, Vermont is 3 1/2 hours N of New York City; 7 miles north of Williamstown, MA, with its Summer Theater Festival and the Clark Art Institute; 45 miles N of the Tanglewood Music Festival; and 30 miles S of Manchester outlet shopping. For skiers in the winter season, the house is 25 miles from Jiminy Peak and approximately 35 miles from Bromley, Stratton and Killington.
A casually-decorated country home, the house glows with the warm yellows of oak floors and trim. Comfortable stuffed furniture, antiques and quilts on beds and walls, complete the picture of a welcoming environment of ease and relaxation.
The first floor flows from a small outside deck into an eat-in, cook’s kitchen; down two steps to a spacious dining, living room area with large brick fireplace. Outside, a large covered porch wraps around the living room, complete with wicker rockers, glider, dining table and grill.
Upstairs, there is a master bedroom with double bed; a second bedroom with 2 twin beds and a large bathroom with tub beneath a skylight and separate shower.
Downstairs, there is a separate suite with queen-sized bed, sitting and dining area, a small kitchen with a two-burner stove and bar refrigerator and full bath with shower. The suite looks out onto a garden set in a remnant of an old stone barn foundation and the fields below. It is connected to the main floor by an interior stair but also has its own separate entrance.
Our home away from home is a comfortable and friendly place for family, friends and pets to enjoy the wonderful sights and rich atmosphere of a magnificent country setting. Ideal for walks, bird-watching, quiet reading, playing games (badminton, croquet) on the front lawn, or simply rocking on the porch and watching the changing cloudscapes over the mountains.
