Built in the mid-1800's, by a Great Lakes "Sea Captain" (ship's carpenter), "The Captain's Cottage" is a unique part of Northport's history. Also known as the "James Washburn House", on the Northport Historic Homes Tour, it has been a part of the town for over 140 years.
This 1 1/2 story home has 4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and lots of space to relax in... for a very low price.
Filled with generations of love & happiness, and not too many ghosts from the past!
Only one block from Haserot Beach/Park, and easy walking distance to everything Northport has to offer; restaurants, shops, beaches, groceries, and (of course) Barb's Bakery (best Cinnamon Rolls this side of heaven).
Take a drive to the lighthouse. Walk the miles of trails, and enjoy the beach, at Cathead Bay, Leelanau State Park. Sample wines at Leelanau's many wineries.
Go for a spectacular sunset and picnic at Peterson Park. Explore Fishtown, in Leeland.
It is all within easy driving distance, or you can just stick around Northport and relax in the warm sun, at Haserot Beach.
Come join us for a week of fun, "UP NORTH"! The Captain's Cottage will be your, centrally located, base for a Leelanau adventure!
Well behaved pets, with owner supervision, are always welcome.

A ship's carpenter, James Washburn, came to Northport in the mid-1860's with his wife, Lorena, and son, Albert. Over the next few years he built several houses in the Northport area. Most of the James Washburn houses no longer are in existence. The Captain's Cottage is where he lived with his family in the 1870's and 1880's. This house is #2 on the Northport Historic Homes Tour. The Captian's Cottage has been a family retreat, for the Larkin family, for almost 40 years. Many celebrations, good times, and summer vacations have been spent there. We hope that the love, and laughter, that is contained in these walls rubs off on our guests. We are sure that you will enjoy the house as much as we have. We will do all that we can to make your stay a happy, and memorable, one. Don't hesitate to call, or email us, with any questions that you might have. Here's to the summer of 2009. The best ever! Tom & Kathy Larkin
