Podere Vigliano - Countryside Farmhouse- Private Pool - Views
Year Purchased: 2000
Why the Owner Chose Monteleone d Orvieto
Ten years ago I took my first trip to Italy and fell in love with the land, culture and most of all the people. I made some Italian friends and decided to come back and look for property, staying with them, I found my farmhouse nearby. I never intended to rent it but found that a house needs to be lived in and started sharing it with others. It has been such a reward to have guests experience the joys of Italy I have. I am selective of who I let stay at my property. They must have an adventurous, joyful spirit.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse
Staying at Podere Vigliano is like stepping into living the authentic Umbrian Countryside life. You look up to the medieval hill town of Monteleone d'Orvieto from the terrace and hear the church bells ring every 15 minutes. It is a short walk up the hill to the town who's focus remains for the locals, few tourists here. My neighbors are still farming as they have for many generations and you will hear very little English is spoken here. This is the real Umbrian/Tuscan countryside experience.
Owner's Map of Monteleone d Orvieto
I was a single woman for the last 12 years with two wonderful grown children, until I met the man of my dreams, Greg, who dramatically proposed to me on my terrace in Italy. After five months of blissful marriage we are finally taking our honeymoon in Italy at Podere Vigliano. We live most of the year in Walnut Creek, California and stay at Podere Vigliano at least twice a year. For work I am a Dental Hygienist and am studying an ancient Taoist Healing Modality called Chi Nei Tsang, which I plan to practice both in the USA and Italy. I aspire to finally write my memoir around my adventures in Italy and love to share my magical property and take small groups on tour around my area.

Our first trip to Italy was magical....

Our first trip to Italy was magical, we rented Podere Vigliano for 10 days, and we were just “wowed” by the beautiful farmhouse, the well manicure grounds and spectacular pool. The photos did not do justice on how beautiful the property truly is. We would spend one day exploring the different towns in Umbria or Tuscany. (Susan, the owner, had wonderful guide books, day trips itineraries and maps.) Then we would spend one day just hanging out at the farmhouse. Going to the local markets to pick out fresh ingredients to cook a fabulous meal but again Susan, can recommend a friend who will cook an authentic meal for you, which we did. It was the best homemade Italian dinner, and there were so much leftover that we had enough for the next day. Susan told us that we would get more out of the trip in the country by doing less. During the whole trip we kept saying “Less is more”. She was absolutely right. The house is so comfortable that you feel that it’s your home. We loved just sitting by the pool, having cocktails, listening to music, reading a book and just looking up to the wall city of Monteleone d’Orvieto. We felt that staying at the farmhouse, gave us a greater appreciation for the Italian culture and language. We were on our own schedule, doing less was more and it was a very memorable vacation. We will be back!

We spent a very relaxing 10 days here in July/August. The house is very tastefully restored and well-equipped and has a good-sized pool. Susan, the owner, left plenty of useful and helpful information and made sure we had everything we needed. The house is stunningly situated with views of nearby Monteleone and the surrounding valley, and is well-located for easy access to many of the tourist highlights of the region. We really enjoyed swimming in the sparkling clear water of the pool, and took full advantage of the many areas of the garden to sit and have a drink or a meal. We made good use of the outdoor grill and the pizza oven, picked produce from the garden and made many trips to Fabro and other towns to buy the ingredients to cook wonderful meals. We have many happy memories of our holiday and would love to return.
Owner response:Thank you so much! It was a pleasure to meet you and your family during your stay.

My family & I rented this beautiful farmhouse for two weeks in June & we all loved it! Looked forward to waking up every morning to have coffee on the terrace & look up at the hillside town of Monteleone d Orvieto. It was nice to venture out one day to a nearby town (including Rome or Florence) & sit by the pool & relax the next day. Our first glimpse of Podere Vigliano took our breath away & everything was more than we expected! Great location, great owner & a dream come true staying here, you won't be disappointed in this property.

The "Farmhouse" is centrally located between Rome and Florence and is a extremely well furnished home, that has sufficient room both inside and outside to accomodate several families. The outdoor patio and deck with its beautiful view of the valley provides a relaxing environment for the end of the day. The swimming pool is an added bonus for both children and adults. You can choose either the backroads or the nearby autostrada for touring the countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Podere Vigliano and and plan on returning.

We're back! Absolutely amazing! We truly cannot wait to plan our next trip. I'm sure I gained 10 pounds, we ate like you wouldn't believe.....Our most favorite dish in all of Italy was Milena's lasagna...oh my gosh! This was a trip of a lifetime. Thank you so much, I can't believe this opportunity just landed in my lap like that!!

We want to thank you for helping to make our dream of spending a special month in Italy come true. Your home and the village of Monteleone d'Orvieto were perfect. It was so nice after a day out to come home to your beautiful Podere Vigliano. We really appreciated all your advice on places to go and people to help us.

We/ve been back home now for a few weeks, and keep wishing we were back at Podere Vigliano. You have truly created a paradise there. Everyone loved it, for the same, and for different reasons. We cooked, we ate, we drank, we walked, we hung out, we did nothing, but we did everything. We explored Monteleone d'Orvieto, Fabro and Fabro Scalo, Orvieto, Assisi, Deruta, Citta della Pieve, Montepulciano. Pienza (and the Pecorino farm) and of course, Chiusi. We might have done more, but what we really wanted to do was nothing at PV. We had espressos in the morning, beer in the afternoon and cocktails in the evening at Seven Cafe. They were terrific, and very kind to us, in spite of the language void. We had dinner a couple of nights at La Tana del Guffo. Thanks for the recommendation NOT to share pizza (well, we all ordered our own, then shared). The thinnest crust pizza I've ever eaten. Grado was there almost everyday, and I must say he keeps the place immaculate! He was so kind, and even though we couldn't understand him, we could understand his friendship.

This restored farmhouse delivers beyond the photos and any expectations. Really. It's a fully stocked home on and at every level. The kitchen - which is gorgeous - is stocked with so many spices and oils - its as if the owner just stepped away for the day. You can start cooking meals, assemble place settings and flowers, and dine on the sunny patio within minutes of arrival (stock up on supplies before you head up the hill). There are four alfresco dining spots on the groomed property - each with views of the surrounding hills and the ever present silent golden silhouette of the hilltown above. There is a wide collection of music, plenty of books and several comfy spots to find some alone time. Several albums filled with dining and site seeing options to peruse - the owner has clearly invested time in making her guests comfortable and informed. Each bedroom offers a clean, effortless style of its own with window views for fresh air and light streaming in. And peace. Total peace. Some of my favorite moments were out at the pool, relaxing in the sun, reading. At my side, a platter of freshly plucked figs off the nearby tree, chunks of creamy baratta cheese from the deli down the hill and a chilled glass of white wine: heaven. And late dining on the patio, with soft music, shared life stories and faraway lights flickering in the night sky. I could have spent every day at the house in and out of the pristine pool and been totally happy - but the central location made for easy day trips to Tuscany for cooking classes, Deruta for ceramic classes and Orvietto for dining and dancing. Plus many smaller hilltop towns within easy short drives for shopping, strolling and delightful encounters. On the top of the hill is a great outdoor restaurant - Gufo's where the locals dine. At the bottom of the hill is a town chock full of shops for foodies: handmade pasta, local meats, baked pies and breads, casks of wine, etc. This is a lovely home. It quickly becomes your home. And now, after typing all this - I just want to go back home.
Owner response:I do want guests to feel completely at home.

We have had a tremendous and relaxing stay in a magic place, wonderful and charming home. Ideal for family stay, we enjoyed the beautiful farmhouse, quiet place, relaxing environment and the (kids-preferred!) beautiful swimming pool. Thanks to a lot of nicely prepared instructions and relevant advices for daily tours in the area, we enjoyed visiting some nice tophills and medieval towns. Time stopped in Podere Vigliano... Great time and experience.
