Location: Paris Arrondissement 16, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe (1-1/2 blocks from the Seine, 1/2 block from Passy metro)
Accommodations: Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)
Romantic three-room apartment on the top floor of a 3-story building. Enjoy a countryside-in-the-city ambiance in this spacious apartment. The 600 sq. ft. apartment includes an addtional 200 sq. ft. private brick rooftop terrace, planted with ivy and flowers and surounded by trellising. Furnishings are a combination of antiques and reproductions. The living room features walls upholstered in French cotton and the dining room has a tented ceiling.
Known for the purity of its water, this historic residential part of Paris was a spa area during the 18th century and was favored by both Benjamin Franklin and Balzac. Near the rue de Passy shopping street, the private square where the apartment is located features the Musee du Vin, a wine museum which is open to the public and hosts occasional wine-appreciation classes. The square is a block and a half from the Seine, across the river from the Eiffel Tower, convenient to wonderful food shops on the rue de Passy. Nearby is the Trocadero. A half block away is the Passy Metro. Direct #72 bus line along the Seine to Place de la Concorde, Louvre, etc.
Both the living room and separate dining room open, via French doors, onto the terrace. The dining room table (which is in fact an outdoor table) seats 6 and there is a table for 4 on the terrace. Dine under the stars in good weather - the terrace easily seats ten. In the large bedroom is a king-size bed and lots of closet space. There is a twin-size daybed in the dining room; the bed is long enough for a 6' tall adult. The apartment is light, airy and quiet, which can be a rare combination in Paris.
There is NO elevator and no concierge. Our cleaning lady comes for two hours once a week to change the bed and straighten up. Upon request, she may have extra time available (15 Euros per hour).
The apartment is perfect for a couple, or for a couple and a well-behaved older child (but not for a baby). We have found that seasoned, independent travelers tired of hotels and $8 cups of coffee enjoy the apartment most. Because our living room walls are upholstered in French fabric, no smoking is allowed. No pets.
