Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

When we spontaneously moved to Stowe in 1998 we weren’t quite sure what was in store for us. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with the land and the community. We came here to live in a ski town and found that all the seasons were spectacular, especially the summers. After being here for 8 years we had the opportunity to buy an historic building right in the center of the village. During the year of renovating the building we had thought we would just rent the apartments to long term tenants, but after seeing the finished product we felt it would be great to share this beautiful building and location with as many people as we could. Never saw myself as an innkeeper but that’s what we’re doing and loving it.

Why the Owner Chose Stowe

Stowe is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been!

The Unique Benefits of this Apartment

Sitting in the living room hearing the church bells then gazing out the window and watching the snow swirl around the steeple. Watching a wedding party enter or leave the church. Stepping out the front door and being in the center of the village and having easy access to all Stowe has to offer. Strolling to Sunset Rock and catching the sunset. Biking the 6-mile recreation path, which is right out the front door. Having the library right out the back door. Catching a Brookie in the river across the street. A fire on a cold night. Going downstairs to Frida’s on a warm early summer evening and having a margarita and a Soft Shell Crab Baja Burito. Going into Gizmo’s and reading all the funny cards.

Wonderful in every way

We are staying here right now and are loving it. There are many lodging options in Stowe, but the location here at the Butler House is the best. If you are looking for ski-in, ski-out, you have few (one or two?) options that are very, very pricey and not in close proximity to the multitude of restaurants, shops, and just overall charm that you have here plus the shuttle to the mountain is a few seps away. The room is impeccably clean, bright, warm, cozy, and it was great to have a coffee machine, bow dryer, etc. that you would expect from larger hotels. Paul was very quick to respond to our email inquiry and everything has been seamless. We will definitely stay here again when in Stowe. By the way, Harrison's, almost across the street has amazing food!

Owner response:We are so pleased that you are enjoying your stay and thank you for taking the time to submit your impressions. The Butler House is indeed a special place in the heart of Stowe and we do our best to make guests comfortable. I hope you get a chance to use the beautiful recreation path, right across the street and behind the Stowe Community Church. Harrison's, is a favorite of ours too! Happy New Year, Laura and Paul Biron, Owners, Butler House Stowe

We have experienced two units in the Butler House and loved them! Here in unit 1 we enjoyed walking to Jamie's for coffee every morning ($1 when you bring your own cup!) then returning to read and relax with the windows open. Walking to the movie theater and seeing a beaver swim just above the covered walking bridge was a nice surprise. Teresa took the cliff trail from the Gondola to the top of Mt. Mansfield and we both hiked the Sterling pond trail, going all the way around the pond where we saw tadpoles, salamanders and frogs. Another lovely week in a wonderful location!

Exceeded expectations

I was traveling to Stowe for the first time for a weekend getaway. Most places asked for a two night minimum and were very expensive. I came across the Butler House on VRBO web site. The place looked cute and the price was right so I thought I'd give it a try. The owner was very accommodating and quick with return emails and confirmations. Location was great, right in the middle of down town and within walking distance to shops and local restaurants. The weather was really lousy, (poured all weekend) otherwise would have done more walking around and exploring). The house has a very inviting feel with a beautiful front entrance to welcome you. The only glitch was the door handle entering into the house. It seems to stick (there is a sign there that says press down hard) and you really have to. However, not a big deal once you get the hang of it. Check in was in the gift shop, very casual, and very quick . We were in the room within minutes. Our room was the large studio looking out over Main Street. It was beautiful, warm and cozy. It had a gas fireplace that really heated up the place, wide planked flooring, warm colors, comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, (even had a Keurig Machine with all types of coffees, teas and hot chocolates). There also is a pull out bed from within the love seat and comfy quilts and blankets available. Paul even had boot “trays” outside the room for your snow boots to dry. Bathroom looked brand new and the whole place was spotless. The studio has a very rustic, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel style to it. After checking in we went down stairs to have lunch at Frida’s. Mahi Mahi tacos and soup and a couple of cocktails were in order. All were outstanding. It was great to have the convenience of a restaurant right below you. However, in your room at night, you never would know there was a restaurant downstairs, and the place was packed. Went up to the mountain to check out the HGTV Dream House, which was the purpose of our visit. Even though the weather was awful, the Mountain was packed. Came back into town and went to the Whip for some appetizers and walked back to the Butler House for dinner again at Fridas. Took desert up to the room and watched a movie in front of the fire. All in all a great visit with fabulous accommodations. I wish I had made the journey a night earlier and could have spent more time in Stowe. Highly recommended and look forward to my next stay at Butler House

Quintessential New England...

After staying many places in Stowe, we have found a home away from home at the Butler House. Charming and elegant, our one bedroom apartment was perfectly suited for a small family. Sunlight streams from every window, and wafts of the most delicious chimichangas beckon you to a relaxing dinner only a few steps away. From the luxurious, high count cotton threaded sheets to the plush, snow white turkish towels, everything in the apartment is top notch. Conveniently located outside the Butler House front door and running a loop every twenty to thirty minutes, taking the free shuttle bus to Mount Mansfield is easier than the hassle of driving and finding a parking space. Simply stated, the Butler House is perfect!

A lovely stay in Stowe

Our appartment was exactly what I hoped it would be - cosy but big enough for us and our 18month old, clean with really nice furniture, a good location in the middle of Stowe etc. The owner Paul was friendly and helpful - especially when it came to trying to find something to do on a very rainy day - giving us passes for the local swimming pool. I will be recommending Butler House to anyone I know who is visiting the area in the future.

Wonderful stay at the Butler House!

My husband and I recently stayed in Unit 1 at the Butler House and can not possibly say enough positive things about these wonderful apartments. The units are fresh, bright, impeccably clean, and have all the amenities you could possibly need in an apartment rental. You can tell a lot of thought and care went into setting up each unit - beautiful decor, comfortable bed, etc. Paul took the time to introduce himself and give us a tour of the other available apartments in the building. And you can't possibly get a better location. You are right in the heart of downtown Stowe, near restaurants and shops (including the fantastic Frida's, right downstairs!), and we were told that during the winter season, the shuttle for skiing will pick you up and take you right up the mountain. We plan on staying again and want to thank Paul for a unique and wonderful experience in Stowe!

We stayed at the Butler House apt. #1 during the first week of October. The location is great right on Main Street in Stowe and is convenient to many restaurants within walking distance. The unit was recently redone and in excellent condition. The place had a very homey feel, and the gas fireplace was a nice touch. We would definetly return again. Thanks Paul!
