Two weeks in Playa Flamingo

I stayed in this unit for two weeks in July/August 2011. Overall, I was very pleased with my stay and readily recommend the unit. The unit features stunning views of the Pacific, which you can enjoy from the living area or the spacious private balcony. The unit was quiet, and I never had trouble with other Oceanica residents/occupants making noise. There were friendly guards on duty 24/7 at the complex, which gave me added peace of mind. The bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen were clean. The only complaint I have with respect to cleanliness is that there were a number of stains on the sofa, dining room chairs, and the recliner. I’m sure it is difficult to keep furniture spotless in a beach condo, but it would have been nice if there had been fewer stains. If you are older, or are otherwise restricted in movement, you may have trouble with the shower in the master bathroom. It is raised very high, and is difficult to enter. I had to use extreme caution when getting in and out of the shower. There are no such problems in the 2nd bathroom. I had problems with the internet connection. At one point, the internet connection was down from Tuesday to Friday. The property manager was helpful, but the cable company was very slow to come out and fix the problem. Another problem with the internet setup is that there is no wireless. There is merely an old (and seriously worn out) ethernet cable attached to a modem that sits beside the TV. The ethernet cable is short, so it makes internet use somewhat uncomfortable. Just bring a long ethernet cable with you and you should be fine. The unit is a short walk from the beach and local restaurants. You can get by without a car, but you will be pretty limited in your dining/shopping selections. Basic items are very expensive in the stores that are within walking distance. Therefore, it is probably advisable to rent a car if you plan to do much shopping for groceries or other items. Another caveat is that there are very steep hills you must climb when returning from the beach or town. In general, I was very pleased with the service I received from the company that manages this property. They were prompt in responding to e-mails and addressing my concerns. I only have one gripe: When I was going to pay the balance due on my rental, I was told the company would charge a 5% charge for using a credit card. They should have been more upfront about this in advance so I could have avoided the fee.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children.
