VRBO Bear stayed here:
When you come to this beautiful vacation rental located in the newly developed Houna Kai Resort, be sure to pack your swimsuit and be prepared to enjoy the perfect Maui weather. If you are looking for the privacy and comfort of a vacation rental combined with the luxuries of an upscale resort (i.e. cocktail service at the pool), then look no further.
The Honua Kai Resort was ideally located along the shore of Kaanapali Beach. As you can see from my photo, we enjoyed the picture-perfect view of the ocean from the lanai. The location created the ideal environment - not too hot, not too cool, but just right. The folding glass wall feature was just plain cool. First thing in the morning, we'd open the glass wall to enjoy the Maui salt-water breezes inside the rental.
Speaking of the rental - WOW! The owners spared no expense finishing and furnishing their property. The kitchen was fit for a professional chef with high-end Viking appliances. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were not too soft, not too hard, but offered the perfect level of comfort. To top it off, the bathrooms were incredibly spacious and featured spa-like luxuries.
Although the comforts of the rental made it difficult to leave, we managed to make it out the front door. The pool didn't let us down. There was a large infinity pool with an attached kiddie pool and two hot tubs. The water temp was not too hot, not too... (you know where I'm headed)... but, perfect. If you find yourself getting thirsty, don't fear- every 15 minutes the wait staff comes to take your order, so there's no need to leave the comfort of the pool. If you seek even more pampering, private cabanas are available to rent. Plus, they are building an additional pool that will have a slide and water features for the whole family to enjoy!
The beach was footsteps away from the pool. The kids enjoyed building sand castles and playing in the water. Papa enjoyed burying the kids and mama in the sand. After wearing ourselves out, we washed off in the showers and headed back to the pool and BBQ'd some lunch.
Given the rental's prime location, we took advantage of sightseeing around Maui. Lahania was a convenient 5-10 minute drive down the coast where we took a boat tour, enjoyed shopping and went out to dinner. We also visited the "Baby Beach" which is ideal for toddlers because it has no waves. Mama and Papa managed to slip away from the kids for a day and enjoyed the adventure of zip-lining through the hills of Maui.
We wish we could have enjoyed all the activities Maui had to offer (golfing, surfing, helicopter tours, volcanos, waterfalls, etc.), but we ran out of time. If you stay at this rental, you’re central to everything. Best of all, the gracious hosts ensure you are comfortable and help you plan to get the most out of your Maui vacation.
The VRBO Bear
We were so happy with this property as it exceded our expectations! In our family we had 6 adults, 2 toddlers and 1 baby and there was plenty of room for everyone. It was extremely convenient that one of the guest rooms had 2 queen size beds so that myself, my husband and our 2 toddlers could sleep in that room. The bathrooms were large with huge showers, which was especially nice after a day at the beach and 2 little ones covered in sand. The view from the lanai was beautiful, especially at sunset. The condo was clean and well stocked with boogie boards, sand toys and chairs in the closet as well as a kitchen full of cooking utensils and a few spices. It was a, maybe 2 minute walk, to the beach. We found that we didn't spend much time at the beach by the hotel as the waves were quite large for our 2 and 4 year olds but the sand was nice. The pools were great. We did find that this part of Maui seemed quite windy compared to when we drove down into Lahaina (the time of year maybe?) Times Grocery store is a short walk and there is even a farmers market about 15 minutes away. Overall, we had a wonderfull vacation and would definitely recommend this property.

West coast meets East coast in Hawaii
West coast meets East coast in Hawaii
Every year our family meets my husbands family somewhere warm for a vacation....this years destination was Hawaii! As a group of 9 it is very difficult to find a location that will accommodate so many people and have an reasonable rate. We found Honua Kai through the VRBO website I emailed right away. Within 5 minutes I had a phone call back from Valerie, she was amazing. She went above and beyond, what I believe her job description is, answering questions regarding flights, car rentals and where to get baby rental stuff-so we didn't need to bring extra things with us. When we arrived we were elated with our room-it was everything that the description and the pictures portrayed and more. The room was clean, well maintained with everything in to making it feel like a home away from home- not to mention that the view and location were breathtaking. The day we left is the first day that I have started planning for our next vacation BACK to Hawaii- Honua Kai!

Honua Kai is BEAUTIFUL!!
Honua Kai is BEAUTIFUL!!
This condo is so beautiful, everything you need is there! The beds are soooo comfortable and the furniture is really nice! You are very close to the ocean as well!! We were lucky enough to enjoy this condo for 10 days. We had a small issue with wasps making nests in the teak wood table outside but once I called Quam Properties they took care of it! We went with our family of four and a sitter for some breaks and date nights there was more that enough room. The grounds were beautiful and Duke's was great! My 8 year old did however think the water slide was a little boring and it would have been cool if there was a pool with a basketball hoop. The lazy river really does not flow and it dead ends so you have to get out to begin again, sorta weird! It was NEVER to crowded and the staff was great. The small store on the property was nice but to do a big shop go to Times basically across the street. The snorkeling was fantastic right there in front of the resort, especially if you walk out to the water and go about 1,000 feet to the left! If you are going with kids bring water shoes, the beach is really nice but there is coral. My kids were fine because I made sure we had them but there were others that their kids feet were getting cut up :(! Rent a boogie board for the week much less expensive than daily! If you are lucky enough to dine out you must go to Merriman's it is our new favorite, $$ but WONDERFUL! Mama's Fish House was a little bit of a drive but go early at 5:00 when they open and it's great. Make resv. at both these places!! You also need to take a ride up to Kapalua it is so beautiful up there, green and on the top of the world. The Pineapple Grill is really good up there! It's only 10 minutes north! If you snorkel you have to go to Slaughterhouse Beach up in Kapalua we swam with turtles!! We would go again and definitely recommend Honua Kai to a friend!!! Try to go on a helicopter ride it it AMAZING!!! Aloha Maui!!!

We stayed in this spectacular condo for our 25th wedding anniversary. We brought our 3 children with us and having 2 master suites was amazing! Everything was high-end upgrades in this prime property. We utilized the bbq on the pool deck and the beach was outstanding!!
