Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2001

As we approached retirement, Pat and I decided to purchase a property on the beach. We had lived on the beach in Hawaii when wee first got married and wanted to hear the sound of the ocean waves as we slept. Subsequent to our purchasing the home we were invited to live in Nacgodoches Tx. next to our grandchildren. We retired. moved to Nacgodoches Tx and subsequently rent our retirement property when we are not there,

Why the Owner Chose Quintana

The home is only 200 miles from our home is Nacgodoches or a three hour drive. The beach is remote with only 6 homes on the entire Quintana Island on the beach. The town of Quintana has a population of about fifty, but it is adjacent to Freeport, Lake Jackson and Surfside which have all the restaurants and service of a major city. Additionally we our only 1 hour from downtown Houston with all the culture of a large city.

The Unique Benefits of this House

We have a Hot Tub overlooking the ocean,a dock for fishing and crabbing in the rear of the home, and available surf fishing and swimming out the front door, The beach is remote and occupied by few if any.

Most relaxing

If you want a place that is removed from the hustle and bustle of city activity, this is the place. Although a public beach, the location of this property is private and a stone's throw to the water. The bottom half of the home is enclosed with lattice and provides the most wonderful breeze no matter what the temp...almost seems like you have overhead fans or A/C. This is a good retreat to pull yourself back together after fighting the stress of work, traffic, and daily obligations. Long stretches of beach to take your coffee and your dog for morning walks...loved it!!!!

Reluctant to review...

Guest: M (North Texas)
Date of Stay: 10/13/11 Review Submitted: 11/01/11

I'm reluctant to review this property because I'm afraid if adequately described how lovely it is, there may never be a vacancy again. First of all -- John (owner) and the people he's hired to tend the house are all wonderful people. John is prompt, flexible, and easy to work with. I feel like his prices are reasonable considering what a great place it is. The location: Quintana. You should know what you're getting into. Or rather, not getting into. There's one bait camp and one restaurant and ... that's pretty much it. This is, of course, exactly the kind of vacation we want/love, so it is no big thing to us. We usually make it up to Clute for El Toro once and we will hit Sunflower Cafe if we cross SLP, but other than that, we eat at home. There is no nightlife to speak of unless you go over to Galveston. This place is the beach. Nothing more but nothing less. The house: again, I reiterate -- this place is the beach. You're coming for the sunset at the Point and the stars and the sound and the smell. You're not coming for a Four Seasons experience. If you want that, I suggest staying at the Four Seasons. The house, though, is imminently liveable. The hot tub on the deck is really all you'll care about. Sure, there's beds. A functional kitchen. Two baths and a handy washer/dryer. But trust me, all you care about is that hot tub. The tap water smells funny (where "funny" is meant to be a euphemism) and you really should bring your own or take advantage of the gallon jugs provided and haul some from Quintana City Hall. And honestly, it is not a big deal at all if you're prepared for it. And I am a picky, picky vacationer. That is truly the only enduring "negative" thing I have to say about this place. If you think of it as kind of like lake house meets base camp -- albeit a very nice one with killer view and location -- you'll get the idea. It is a bit rustic but you really don't care. Cause you're at the beach, which, even on a bad day, is better than a good day pretty much anywhere else. Other things -- mosquitoes, sea grape, fussy weather, etc. -- these are transient/seasonal and accept their possibility as part of a any trip to the coast. Have I enjoyed my three stays at this house? An unqualified yes. Just make sure your trip doesn't conflict with mine and leave the house cleaner and better than you found it :) Thanks, John and Pat, for the opportunity to make memories at your pla

Comfortable and beautiful location!

Date of Stay: 07/31/11 Review Submitted: 08/13/11

We spent a week at this lovely home and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We have two teenage daughters who loved the easy access to the beach and comfortable living spaces for reading, napping, and hanging out. Our little terrier chased waves and land crabs and seagulls all week, and rested comfortably inside when the day was over. The house is equipped with everything we needed with one minor omission - we went looking for measuring cups and couldn't find any! But that was it, and we improvised. :-) Beds, linens, sofas and all are very clean and comfortable. We made extensive use of the outdoor shower for rinsing sand from head to toe and head to paws. Loved the secluded location that had the added benefit of a quick drift into town if needed. We went to Lake Jackson to see a movie on night, and drove over to Seaside for a walk on the pier and lunch at Kitty's Purple Cow, which was very good! All in all a highly successful experience. The rental is an economic choice that absolutely met our needs. Oh, and the fishing is excellent! BBQed red fish several nights!

Rented this wonderful beach house twice!

John is great to work with! The beach house has everything you would want! We like the seclusion, the crowds of Galveston are fun for a while but it's good to come back to Quintana Beach to chill. We were there July 4th so the beach was a little crowded but not in front of the beach house. There is a lake behind the house to fish and crab and you have the ocean in front, the best of both worlds! Caught lots of crab and had many crabfests! It has a hot tub with a nice patio to sit and watch the ocean view. I highly recommend this beach house.

A Great Escape

Guest: Jerri W.
Date of Stay: 06/18/11 Review Submitted: 07/02/11

This house had all you needed to relax and enjoy the great view of the beach. The morning walks with coffee and the dog. Very Pet friendly owner. Secure area for kids and pets. The hot tub in the evenings looking at the stars, is also very nice. The house is so comfortable and has all you need but your own food. It was clean and the weather could not of been better during our stay. You should check out the City Hall and the Bird Sancuary across the street from City Hall, also reading the history of Quintanna was interesting and the owner has that at the house. The only bad part, is you dont want to leave .

My family loved this beach house!

We just rented this home for a week and loved every minute of it. The weather wasn't ideal every day, but it didn't matter because of the hot tub and the lake. Even with marginal weather, there was always something to do as a family. The house is well stocked with everything you need for your vacation. Just bring sunscreen, your clothes and groceries and you'll have the time of your life!

Fantastic Rental House

Guest: Mike (Dallas)
Date of Stay: 02/16/11 Review Submitted: 03/01/11

John runs a great rental, he's easy to work with and prompt as well. As for the house, its perfect, hot tub that overlooks the beach on the second story deck, it's got a huge kitchen and two full baths, one with a very large tub for two. Besides the great owner and house, the salt water pond behind the property is great for less sporty water activities, and if the Gulf is calm and the weather is clear you can see for miles from the beach, from the house or from the deck, in the hot tub with a friend. We had 10 adults and had plenty of room, with the three bedrooms and the 2 baths. The large kitchen served us well for the meals and we had storage on the side deck as well as a place to grill out. John also provided games, cable TV, fishing and crabing equipment, water toys and more. I would use this house again, and plan to do so in fall of this year. A great place for your family or friends!

Great Beach Vacation

Guest: Family of 4 (East Texas)
Date of Stay: 10/03/10 Review Submitted: 10/19/10

Although this is a public beach, it was very peaceful and quiet. The evenings were cool so we left our windows open all night, to the peaceful sounds of the ocean. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed....loved the deck for reading, relaxing, just watching the beach and ocean. We had great walks along the beach and did a lot of surf fishing and some crabbing. We did enjoy the fishing even though the fish were not cooperating. Also, the owner had the yard and area around the dock on the lake in back mowed and trimmed so it was easy access. The owner has the house equipped with games, videos, books, etc. It would be great for kids at night. Freeport is within 5 minutes and Lake Jackson is about 15 minutes away. We even drove to Galveston one day; an hour or less away. Our deposit was returned to us less than a week after we returned home; the owners are very helpful and friendly.

Wonderful place for a family vacation. We enjoyed being so close to the beach and we also enjoyed all the places that we could go fishing. The kids loved under the house which was enclosed with lattice and a gate. They played down there and you didn't have to worry about them. They also loved hunting for crabs and seashells. We will most definetly consider renting this place again. There was a lot of room for a large family.

Wondferful Week at the Beach

Guest: Reece and Sandy (Jacksonville, Texas)
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 09/06/10

My wife and I,along with our two dogs, just spent a wonderful week in this clean, cozy and comfortable beach house. Quintana Beach is only feet from the front door and I had a great time surf fishing and getting a tan. The house is a cool retreat from the sun and nothing can compare to watching the sun rise over the Gulf while drinking coffee on the front deck. The furnishing were well above average and the kitchen was very handy for snacks or full meals. Our dogs enjoyed chasing land crabs in the fenced enclosure below the house when they weren't on the beach chasing birds or swimming in the surf. Sandy and I have the means to vacation anywhere in the world but we are already planning our next trip to the Gulf and you can be certain we will return to this same beach home if it is available. The owners are honest, helpful and friendly. Should you decide to vacation or fish on the Gulf please skip the crowds and overpriced properties to the East of Quintana Beach and look into this hidden jewel. Your kids will thank you and if you are animal lovers like us, they will have as much fun as you do.
