Sites to See:
The beaches of Corolla have been cited as some of the best undiscovered beaches! This family-friendly, relaxed town has something to offer everyone. Some of the attractions Corolla is known for are the Currituck Lighthouse (climb to the top for a bird’s eye view of Corolla), the historic Whalehead Club which is open for tours and offers a taste of historic Corolla, unique shopping at area boutiques, a movie theater, grocery stores, Rees Jones designed golf course AND a Wildlife Nature center with interactive kids activities. A Whelkom’d Sunrise is located on the secluded, remote, 4x4-access beaches where the wild Spanish mustangs still roam free. Though most guests staying in the 4WD area prefer a quiet and relaxed week at the beach, should you choose to venture back to the paved roads, A Whelkom’d Sunrise is a 30 minute ride to the historic Corolla Village, 45 minutes to the town of Duck, a little over an hour to Nags Head and just over an hour and a half to Manteo on Roanoke Island.
Here are a few more things to keep you busy from Corolla to Manteo: National Audubon’s Pine Island Bird Sanctuary, Icarus Memorial to Flight, Avalon Fishing Pier & Arcade, Wright Brother’s Monument, Jockey’s Ridge State Park (Largest Living Sand Dune on the East Coast!), NC Aquarium Annex at Jennette’s Pier, Bodie Island Lighthouse, & Oregon Inlet Fishing Marina, Elizabethan Gardens, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, NC Aquarium (home of the 180,000 gallon shark tank exhibit), NC Maritime Museum, Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, Freedman’s Colony of Roanoke Island & Roanoke Island Festival Park (historical goldmine for anyone who has ever wondered about those first colonists…complete with tours, exhibits, museum, sailing vessel and full historic dress).

Truly Beautiful Home!
Truly Beautiful Home!
What an absolutely beautiful home. We had a much smaller crowd with us for vacation this year & we certainly found the right place. While smaller in bedrooms, the home was very spacious. This was by far, the cleanest vacation rental home we have ever stayed in. The outside shower and toilet were a great addition - and like I said, clean! The kitchen setup was fabulous! We typically cook in all week and there wasn't a thing that I couldn't find, and we weren't walking all over top of one another. The views were beautiful & as usual, we saw lots of horses, deer, fox and birds. The details on this home were great! From the dolphins on the pergola and stairs - well, you just need to pay attention! The beds were comfortable and we just had a great week! We would definitely come back to a Whelkom'd Sunrise!!

We've found our annual beach spot!!
We had a great week! We saw lots of wild life - horses, jellyfish, crabs, clams and dolphins. We had lots of fun going to the beach every day and going in town to shop. It was an adventurous start - 4 wheeling in the rain (for the first time) in the dark, but getting here was half the fun! We absolutely loved the house! We will definitely be coming back. We've found our annual beach spot!!

Shed a tear . . .
Well, I might actually shed a tear or two when we leave here tomorrow morning. We had a wonderful time here at your beautiful beach house. This home was just perfect for our family! This was our first trip to the Outer Banks & we hope to return in the near future. I enjoyed the horses so much & they did not disappoint. We were thrilled at how much time they spend in the yard here. My daughter & I are horse crazy - so they were a special treat! Many hours were spent walking on the beach searching for shells. We all enjoyed our trips back and forth driving on the beach. We all thought it reminded us if snowmobiling. Thank you!

Beautiful house! Had a wonderful week! Saw many horses, seer, birds and thankfully, no snakes. Loved the hot tub, spent a lot of time on the deck celebrating the sun after a long New Hampshire winter. Well equipped kitchen; a delight to cook in. Beach décor is neat. Lots of space, great music collection. Though we loved our daily beach walks, we never grew tired of returning to your wonderful home. Thanks so much, Brenda & Jim, for allowing us to get away from job and stress. WE LOVED YOUR HOME! Hope to get the opportunity to come back.

Our first visit . . .
Our first visit to Carova/OBX. Loved the 4x4 beach and the seclusion out here. Your home is absolutely gorgeous and had every amenity covered. Music collection is awesome, (our children received an education on many artists. Girls loved the hot tub! Horses we saw everyday. Thank you for sharing your lovely beach home with us.

From the moment we drove up... we knew we had made the right choice. We are a small group of 5 and have been up to Carova the last 4 years. This home was WAY better (and less expensive) than any other house we had gotten thru realtors. CLEAN as you could imagine, very well equiped, and an awesome location for beach access. There aren't many smaller houses in Carova, but taking ALL things into consideration, this house offers great value and delivers as promised. The pictures do not do it justice. I wish I had that kitchen/great room set up in my own house. The kids (as well as me and my wife) even actually used the outside shower and toilet. Never dreamed of that in previous rentals. SUPER clean, all the stuff you need, ocean views, and a real quiet area. Hope to return!

A great family vacation. We enjoyed this beach house very much! It was fantastic to see dolphins, horses, deer, and many other little creatures. We truly enjoyed watching the sunsets from the screened porch and the full moon from the decks. Some great family memories were made here. Thank You!

Wonderful 2 weeks vacation . . .Guest comment entered by owner
Wonderful 2 weeks vacation . . .
We had a wonderful 2 week vacation! This is our 2nd time staying in your house. We loved it even more this time. We caught lots of fish, saw the horses several times, watched dolphins playing in the waves, and took many walks on the beach. We did not find very many shells (unfortunately). We visited Manteo for a day and went to the aquarium and saw the Lost Colony drama. It was definitely worth the trip. The worst part of this trip is having to leave this wonderful, peaceful place. We look forward all year long to our summer vacation to Carova Beach!
