As you turn off a two lane highway you descend on a private dirt road to a hidden riverfront drive with lovely rock walls , green grass and fruit trees. Then you reach the Mission style adobe wall which opens onto a pueblo-style home on a tree filled oasis facing the river. The only people you need see are the occasional rafters floating by in summer as you barbeque outside.
This property is great for a couples' getaway, for artists and writers or just anyone who needs privacy and natural beauty without interference of neighbors or other homes. You will have one of the most beautiful views imaginable. The cozy living room has a rock fireplace and a large window looking at the Rio Grande River (just 15 feet away). Mornings, as you have your coffee on the back portal facing the river, you may see our resident blue heron or our beloved bald eagle family overhead as well as the ever-present ducks floating downriver.
If you need more stimulation, then get in your car and do the scenic drive to Taos or Santa Fe where you have shopping, museums, skiing and many other activities. Also, there is a lovely, art community in Dixon with a country,co-op grocery store, library, community center and two award winning vinyards. Check out CHIRIPADA and VIVAC for wine tasting and pair that with freshly baked bread or pastries from our new local bakery.
This property is also available to host your outdoor wedding (house rental additional). For more information call 617-947-9016 or email: heinleyart@aol.com.

My husband and I stayed three days and nights here recently. Although the photographs of the property are gorgeous, actually being there is over and above any impressions received from the photos. It was such a relaxing, enriching, memorable experience. This place is an architectural jewel, and ike walking through a work of art. The owner is charming and very helpful in her recommendations of dining and sightseeing. We visited nearby Abiqui, Ghost Ranch, and Taos. I have already recommended it to several friends.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We had the most incredible vacation here! The house itself is gorgeous and it's setting right on the river is incredibly soothing and relaxing. It's location is great to visit nearby Taos as well as Abiqui and even Santa Fe. The owner was extremely helpful in recommending things to do and nearby restaurants. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This is a lovely little New Mexican Casa very nicely decorated and comfortable. It was well stocked with everything we wanted. It only has a hand held shower in the tub. Because the bed is next to the wall one person who is against the wall cannot easily get out. Ask about reserving the cabin as it has another bed and bath if needed. During a hot summer it can get pretty warm inside. The grounds and the river are perfect for spending time outside except you can hear the cars on the nearby highway. All in all a great place for a single person or a couple, especially if you want to use it as a base to explore. Theres a well stocked community grocery just minutes away Eat at Sugar Nymph in Penasco!Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Our first stay was only a week and we were so happy that we booked the house for six months! The river is gorgeous and visible from the back yard and windows. The fishing and swimming/rafting is wonderful and we loved the green grass, trees and backyard cooking right on the river.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1997
About the owner: I grew up in a very small town in Arkansas but my family moved to Florida when I was 14. I attended USF in Tampa and then Boston College for my master's work in History. I went to Paris to finish my thesis and did not return for 5 years! My focus shifted to Fine Art and I began collecting 19th Century French paintings with my French partner. For 15 years afterwards, I represented these masterworks in Boston from a Townhouse on Marlborough Street and curated exhibits for galleries and institutions. I discovered New Mexico later and was captivated instantly so I built my 'get-a-way' (fantasy) home and have used it as my retreat from a very demanding professional life. I have found much inspiration here.
Why the Owner Chose Dixon:
It chose me! It was the last place I ever thought I would be, however, I stopped to visit a friend on my way back from a business trip and she introduced me to the Dixon area....that was it for me! When I saw the land I fell under its spell and knew that I had to return. I have traveled all over the world and have not found an area as dramatically beautiful as northern New Mexico.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I really enjoy watching the wildlife on the river and canoeing. Swimming and rafting are also fun. Cooking out on the river and building a crackling fire in the kiva fireplace is always a wonderful way to relax. There are some very special secluded and magical places to walk or hike with breathtaking views. I guess the privacy of my land and the rustic charm of the place are what I enjoy most because I can totally relax and heal from the pressures of my business and city-life. Everything else just either slips away or falls into place here. It is paradise on earth to me.
