This beloved house has been in the same family for more than forty years. The house is an authentic antique waterfront "Summer Cottage" built in 1900. It has seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, two half-baths, an enormous living area and a huge wraparound porch. Lawns, original stonework and towering trees surround the house. It has its own large private dock with a protected harbor where you can keep your boat. There is even a separate, secluded stone terrace overlooking the water. It is hard to imagine a more gracious and lovely place to enjoy the beauty of Door County.
The living/dining area is huge and open with high beamed ceilings and abundant windows. The dining table has extra leaves to accommodate a large family gathering. There is a separate smaller living area just off the main living room for watching television or playing games. There is a powder room adjacent to the TV room. The kitchen has two generous pantries filled with cookware, dishes and glasses. Just off the kitchen is a large utility room with plenty of storage space for your bicycles or other equipment, as well as a spacious laundry area and half bath.
The bedrooms are all big and bright with large windows. Several of the bedrooms have sun-porches that open off them. The mattresses and box springs are all brand new. The bathrooms are charming and old-fashioned – three have the original porcelain sinks and claw foot bathtubs and three have updated shower stalls.
Outside, off the kitchen and dining room, there is a lovely stone patio with a gas grill, table and chairs, perfect for outdoor summer dining. Just beside it is a croquet court. There are numerous lawns with ample room for children to run and frolic to their hearts' content while the adults gather to eat and socialize. All in all, it is an ideal setting for any social gathering; it is gracious, spacious and comfortable.
The house is less than half a mile from the town of Fish Creek. It is a brief 10 minute walk into the center of town, where there are numerous shops, cafes and restaurants. The Peninsula State Park, with its miles of bike trails and beaches, is a 10 minute bike-ride away. This is simply the ideal location for anyone who likes to boat, fish, swim, bike, hike or just relax in solitude.
As you can tell, this is a very special place. Everyone who walks onto this property falls in love with it – it seems to transport you to a quieter and more gracious time. Our family truly treasures this house and we are happy to share it with others who will appreciate it as we do.
