WOW!! I spent a week at this piece of paradise located a short walk from a world class point break and only steps away from a fun, peaky beach break which offers great waves when the swell is smaller. I've experienced many surf and family trips to mainland mexico and I would say that this is by far my favorite home we have ever stayed in. The open air environment was so relaxing. It was very clean and offered all the amenities you could ask for. The caretaker, Rebecca prepared us 3 delicious meals a day and were all classic authentic mexican dishes. She also cleaned our rooms and our beds each morning...Thanks Rebecca!! Olavaquero has a huge quiver of rental surfboards. I would recommend renting one of their boards as they have every type of board for every type of condition and size of waves. One of the nicest features that this home has is the swimming pool. It's location is ideal and is surrounded by the kitchen and dining room table and best of all...the hammocks!!

So I will not start up writing this review about how busy my life with raising family, work, needing to get away. In fact it was my wife's third point of encouragement to go on a surf trip from Santa Cruz, CA. While we enjoy year round surf here in Santa Cruz coupled with great weather I am very selective on the places that I do put the brakes on responsibilities and check out. I am so glad that I did make the trip to Olavaquero having the opportunity to surf a world class left hand break with eighty degree water and air! I also took the longer way to the destination by taking public transportation that was not only safe but quite entertaining with sales presentations by medicino, tamales, food sales reps along the way. When I arrived to the house the feeling I had right away that this was going to be a great stay for my three days. The openness of the layout of the house and ocean views are amazing as is the view high up in the tower for long range surf checks. Daily meals were fantastic! Fresh Mex with great service also made the stay top notch. The rooms were fantastic with gentle evening breezes while falling asleep to crashing waves is the only way to pass out after a day of surfing, fishing and enjoying the beach. Within Rio Nexpa beach there are a variety of surf options from the classic ultra-long left point break over cobblestone to a punchy beach break. While I was there the surf range was 3-5 ft. When we were not surfing the fishing was just as good as the surf! I was able to full in a meal while fishing on the sandbar in front of the house. I have caught plenty of fish growing up across 17 states but never on a sandbar hooking a fish while duck diving a wave! So many great memories for my three day stay I will certainly be heading back next year to enjoy a great stay, food, surf, fishing and relaxing. If you don't have the time make the time! I can't wait to put the daily grind brakes on and book another trip to Olavaquero! Pat and Jordan have made a fantatic get away for you to visit!! Thanks so much!!

Very safe and private with plenty of space to lounge and hang out in or out of the sun. The surf is all very accessible either by foot or a short car ride away. We cannot really review Olavaquero justly as we have not stayed there. We booked a week in August but were not able to come out. However, before we had to cancel we had many questions and they were all responded to in a prompt and timely fashion. Pat, the owner, was very informative and accommodating even before we came. When we were forced to cancel the trip, the refund was arranged without problem. I can't say anything about the actual place (although it looks breathtakingly gorgeous), but the owner runs his business well.

This has got to be an ultimate "get away from it all"! The house is enormous and incredibly spacious with architectural features everywhere that get the "oohs and ahhs" flowing while still being practical and extremely comfortable! The location is remote enough to leave reality a long long way behind, there's just you, your friends, and the sun rising and setting on either end of the beach. Speaking of beach, the swells roll in like clockwork and the sound of surf never ends! This place is the perfect "escape" for anyone who is looking for a classy Mexican beach vacation that is not the usual high density tourist package. If your into surfing then you really have no choice- it's a "must do"!

I just got back from Olavaquero and I wish I was still there. The place was very clean, completely beautiful, and accommodating. The rooms were huge and there is something about this place that just puts your mind in a different space. (I work in a fast paced environment, and needed to slow down). The caretakers cooked us excellent meals, very authentic mexican food. The beds were made every day, and the caretakers were nice people, they even drove me to town when our car had a flat tire. And being near a premiere point break was a huge plus. We elected to rent boards from Olavaquero's surfboard quiver. This saved us from having to transport our boards or check them on the airplane, which is always a hassle. The variety of surfboards was great, boards were nice and we surfed them every day. After surfing, I always came back to Olavaquero, filled up on some food, and took a nap in a hammock every day. The best place to take a hammock nap is the crows nest because you get a warm breeze, a view of Nexpa, and the sound of the waves breaking in front of the house which always puts me to sleep. We watched the sunset from the crows nest every evening.....spectacular! We did lots of afternoon surfing directly in front of the house. The waves were great and after surfing we would come back to the house and jump in the pool. With a fresh squeezed margarita in hand. The pool has a shallow shelf which is ideal for sitting around and cocktailing after jumping into the deep end. Something about this house and this location just mellows me out. I must say that my vacation to Olavaquero was the most relaxing trip I have done in 10 years, and I happen to travel a lot. I'm telling all my frineds about this place and I'm definitely going back for some more relaxation and epic surf.

Good luck finding another spot with everything that Olavaquero has to offer. The house itself is incredibly well laid out and very conducive to a schedule that revolves around surfing, relaxing, and entertaining. The lookout tower is awesome for watching sunsets and checking conditions at the point, and the pool is amazing for post session or mid-day swims. You can also hear waves all the time in every room of the house, which is cool and very relaxing. My favorite thing to do was hit the point in the morning before the sun got up, surf for a couple hours, then go back to the house and read in one of the hammocks next to the pool. I did that every day. The point has great surf, but I got my most fun waves of the trip surfing solo out in front of the house. Also, a 20 board quiver? Are you kidding me? Drinking a few beers and watching the sun go down from the lookout tower after a long day of surfing is a good way to wrap up the day, and once the sun goes down the kitchen is an awesome place to cook a big meal. The house is also perfect for entertaining, with an cool bar and a nice projector-equipped movie theater for watching surf flicks. If you need to get out, there are some great restaurants right down the road and, guess what, they all have beer. Al in all, amazing spot, and one that offers a very unique opportunity to do some great surfing and take it super easy in an awesome house when you're not in the water. Olavaquero gets it.
Owner response:Thank your for your response, we are happy to hear you enjoyed the house. come back some time, Pat Olavaquero.com

Three generations of family together in heaven. Thank you so much Pat and Jordan, well done you have a beautiful house on a beautiful beach in the middle of no where, private, quiet, peaceful and perfect just what we were looking for. We celebrated by relaxing by the pool, walking on the deserted beach, eating fresh fish and lobsters, exploring, reading, sleeping, laughing and making our new years wishes releasing chinese lanterns over the ocean. A wonderful holiday we will all remember forever. Thank you again, Jo and Family x

We spent 3 beautiful weeks at Olavaquero in December. The house is every bit as awesome as it looks! The setting is exquisite. The turtles were laying and hatching while we were there and the beach was deserted. We fished from shore and saw amazing whale and dolphin shows several times from the deck. Olavaquero is totally private with virtually no neighbors near by. The living space is great. We were 3 couples so the bunk beds weren't really a hit but for families with kids that room would be great. All of the beds are super comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. -We loved the blender -where did you get that thing? It would crush rocks I swear. The surf was mostly small when we were there but it was consistent and glassy every morning. The wave in front of the house wasn't working so we walked to the point every day. We were a mix of super beginner and okay surfers. Nexpa is definately better suited to surfers who have some experience under their belts due to a rocky bottom that can be sharp -bring your booties. The wind picked up every afternoon but we set up the volleyball net and had a great time playing beach volleyball. The pool was also amazing as the beach in front of the house is not great for swimming. This is definately a relaxing and luxurious getaway. If you are looking for action, you may find it too remote. If you are looking for good surf and a place to relax and unwind in solitude you will love this house. Thanks for a great trip!
Owner response:Glad you guys had fun, I wish could spend 3 weeks at Olavaquero. The Blender Came from NASA, it crushes anything!! Pat

My husband and I just rented this house with two other couples, and we all had a terrific time. It was a relaxing and fun vacation, and the house worked really well for us; although, one couple did have to sleep on bunk beds. Might be better for two families, but we would still go back as three couples again (and draw straws for the bunk beds)! The ground floor has large roll-up doors (like garage doors) on three sides around the back / beach side, so the house is very open, breezy, and comfortable. This is great if you don't want to be forced to be in the sun all day, because you can pull a lounge chair inside and still have it seem like you're on the patio or you can nap on one of the several hammocks and still feel the breeze and hear the surf! The open, spacious kitchen has a big citrus juicer, so we had lots of fresh OJ and lime juice for evening cocktails. And the biggest surprise bonus when we arrived was the marvelous pool on the south side of the patio; there's a deep end for swimming / playing and a large shallow end that's perfect for just sitting in to cool off. The home is very private, with no other buildings (except the caretaker's cottage on the back side) anywhere nearby. Rio Nexpa is a very small town with terrific surf waves if that's a sport you enjoy. And just a little further south (about a 15 minute drive) is the town of Caletta de Campos, which has great local flavor with grocers and butchers and the like, as well as a scenic cove that's perfect for swimming or even just a slight change of beach scenery. I would strongly recommend this house for anyone looking for a self-service, make-yourself-at-home rental right on a beach in a safe and beautiful part of the Mexican Pacific coast!

Great house in rural mainland mex near a lot of great waves. The house is a surfers dream house in the middle of nowhere. No crowds, neighbors, discos, hawkers, etc. Just surf, beers, and relaxation. The caretakers shop, cook, and take care of everything. You just need to sleep, eat and surf. A perfect getaway.

Just returned from my 40th birthday celebration with 10 people at OlaVaquero and everyone was in love with the property as it was even more spectacular than the photos. One couple chose to stay at a nearby bungalow in which the owners gave us an excellent recommendation. Our group was diverse including a couple of wanna be surfers who enjoyed the waves as well as many who just wanted to relax. While the conditions were not ideal for swimming (nearby Caleta de Campos has protected beaches)and the drive from ZIH is about 3 hours, this will be a relaxing vacation. We chose to cook most of the time and everyone pitched in, however one day we worked out a spectacular dinner (lobster, fish, chilaquiles etc) with Manuel (his wife owns a local restaurant) who runs the place and will assist with anything you need. Cooking, Massages, board rentals etc can all be arranged when you arrive. The owners even assisted with recommendations for us to spend our last night in Troncones which is only 40 minutes from the ZIH airport. Security is not at all a problem as there are not many issues in that area and there are also people there to assist. The only things to watch out for are: 1. Get Pesos at the airport as there is not an ATM anywhere close and while local merchants will accept US$ the exchange rate is less than ideal. 2. The beach: depending on conditions, be cautious when swimming/surfing in front of the house, however the point about a 10 minute walk away is an easier paddle out and is a very long and gentler wave. 3. No matter how long you plan to stay it is not long enough. Have fun.

Olavaquero is a top of the line rental property. Attention was paid to detail at every turn. The kitchen is stocked with just about every imaginable appliance. Items such as the fresh orange juicer, garlic press, and gourmet knife set enhance the enjoyabilty of making large delicious meals together. The living room is equipped with a projection TV and very comfortable seating. The two master bedrooms have immaculate views of the ocean and private balconies. The beds in the master bedrooms are suspended from the ceiling creating a very romantic atmosphere. Both showers are large and luxurious with intricate hand laid stone designs. The third bedroom is very large and comfortably sleeps four additional people. All in all, Olavaquero has bed spots for 8 people and the living room can easily sleep another 3. And, my favorite amenity is the four story tower. The sunset and beach views are amazing from the top of this 60 foot tower. The height and views are unparallel by any structure in either Rio Nexpa or Caleta (both of which are visible from the top of the tower). I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this gem of a rental property. The only disappointment was that the house did not come with the cute surfers pictured on the website.

Olavaquero was everything I expected it to be and more. I have stayed in multiple rental properties around the world and Olavaquero's floor plan, design, amenities, location and style are top notch. It is by far the best accomodations in the area. The fully equipped kitchen, office, living & entertainment rooms are clean, well maintained and all the equipment is brand new. Both master bedrooms have ocean view and the 3rd (twin) room has beautiful views of the mountains, yet you can still hear the ocean even from the back room...that is how close to the water this house is. The furnishings in the rooms are well thought out and the layout is very spacious and comfortable - king size beds, ample light, spacious counters in the bathrooms and plenty of privacy even if the rooms are shared. The 360 views are spectacular. There is a tall wall around the perimieter of the house...the courtyard is big enough to park the car on the inside and lock up the entire place completely. Olavaquero and its surroundings offer: 350 days/year surf, swimming and snorkeling, diving, hiking, fishing, massage, yoga...the entertaining/kitchen area is well layed out for parties and big groups... Shopping is about 7 minutes away at the Nexpa village that also has restaurants and other tourist attractions. The owners of Olavaquero are very gracious, helpful and 100% commited to satisfaction. I would strongly recommend Olavaquero and am hoping to be back there soon.
Owner response:Thanks for your kind words, I am happy you enjoyed your stay at Olavaquero. Till next time, Pat

From the pictures I knew the place would be nice...but the care of its design and the custom detailing were completely unexpected. Especially in an area which remains virtually untouched... It almost appears as the owners sought to create their own personal high-end playground with a backyard of amazing surfbreaks. From the 60 plus inch projection screen (with enough couch for a dozen people) to a forty foot tower which commands views in every direction....this place was built to impress and entertain... and the pimp custom beds in the two masters ...too many things to mention...oh yeah have the staff make you breakfast....the chorizo and eggs was excellent.

This place is awesome. The house is huge and attention was paid to every last detail. Besides being in beautiful lush scenery, the place is right next to an epic point break, not to mention the beach break right in front. The weather was great for us, but worst case scenario if it had rained, we would have watched a movie on the gigantic screen. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be going back.
