Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1979

I am an eternal optimist, enthusiatic about life and its adventures, am a creative problem-solver, a gardener, a seamstress, a reader, a traveler, an appreciator of beautiful things both living and hand-crafted, enjoy music, art, theater, and occasionally make stained glass pieces. I am single with grown children, and I have many years experience as an RN, a psychologist and a psychotherapist, as well as having a variety of other employment experiences and adventures. I find sources of joy every day, and am open to life's next adventure or next lesson.

Why the Owner Chose Southwest Harbor

I bought this lovely house and property as a home for my children and myself. It has many great features that make it an ideal family place. My children have many wonderful memories of this house and the area, and now my grandchildren are adding their own memories of being here. Now that my children are grown, I want to share this home with others who would like a welcoming place for families or friends to gather and celebrate being together in Maine.

The Unique Benefits of this Single Family Home

The surroundings of ocean, harbor, boats, mountains, lakes, bald eagles, deer, forest and flowers, which are always changing, daily and seasonally, nurture my very being. The Cottage's high ceilings which lend themselves to antique furnishing; the rooms sun-filled from dawn to dusk; the moon traveling across in front of the Cottage and highlighting the waters of the harbor and the moored boats; the quietness, the safety, the ability to walk to markets, restaurants and shops; the welcoming feeling of the Cottage whenever I enter. The special feeling of the gazebo in every kind of weather. These are some of the things which give my heart a home here.

    • A lovely place to stay for a vacation. The area is beautiful with so many things to do. I especially enjoyed the bird carvings museum and a local garden tour. Be sure and ask Anne where to go for the best ice cream cones and places to eat lobster right on the pier where the fishing boats dock. And try the mussels as well. I did with some trepidation. They are yummy. As to the Napier Cottage, what can I say. Spacious, airy, with beautiful views and large sunny windows. My favorite rooms were the dining room and the master bedroom. What a delight to wake up to the sun streaming in the windows. House is large enough to easily accommodate 8 and the kitchen even has a pass through to the living room for snacks; where the library is also located. Nice when you want to curl up with a good book and some yummy nibbles. Oh yes, and the gazebo...the perfect place for morning coffee or evening libations when you opt for other than the dining room. The grounds are large and spacious; just right for a game of croquette or badminton or just a game of tag. There are 2 full bathrooms upstairs and a half bath downstairs. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, dishes, etc should you desire to cook, though I chose to eat out more than cook. Having a washer and dryer on site was a big plus. I didn't mention this when talking about the gazebo, but there is a wonderful deck that opens from the dining room and runs the length of the back of the house to the gazebo. It too has many places to sit and enjoy the yard, or read a good book. Another plus is the separate media room so that those who want to watch tv or videos can do so without competing with those who want to read or just talk. The house decor is warm and inviting through out. Would I recommend this place for a vacation? Absolutely. In fact, I plan to come back. Sincerely, Mary-Elizabeth Murray Note: Last time I vacationed at the Napier Cottage was the end of May of this year. Tulips were in bloom and the lilacs just starting to open. Weather was lovely; chilly a couple of days, warm the rest. A lovely time of year to visit.   Mary-Elizabeth Murray, Los Alamitos, Ca

    • A lovely old home in a wonderful setting. The house is warm and welcoming with plenty of elbow room and character for seven adults. Kitchen well furnished. Bedrooms large and comfortable with great views with exception of the one children's room. Deck, patio and gazebo definite pluses.
