Westwood is surrounded on three sides by forest and fronts on 250 feet of lakeshore on the beautiful, clear water Moose Lake.
We are about a four hour drive North of Minneapolis, 30 minutes east of Bemidji and two miles into the woods off the Scenic Highway between Casslake and Blackduck.
Westwood has a private dock and available fishing boat. Pontoons are available for rent from the adjacent Moose Lake Resort. Should your needs exceed sleeping for six, additional similar cabins are available nearby.
Westwood has a new kitchen with panoramic views over Moose Lake. The area is beautifully landscaped. Several golf courses are close by and a onsite course is under expansion. Awaken to the sound of loons in the morning and enjoy all manner of birdlife during the day.
Some of our renters have been coming for over 40 years. Last minute openings may occur and so do not hesitate to call. Rental is usually by the week from saturday to saturday.
If you have the option of timing, May to mid-June and late August and September are beautiful in our area and the rates are less than summer
At the request of some renters, a master bedroom suite has been added for use starting with the 2012 season. This is available at extra cost.

- This is an exquisitely beautiful, secluded and relatively private setting on Moose Lake. Some folks like to move in and enjoy the solitude for the duration of their stay. Others like to take advantage of the contiguous Resort Lodge and communing with other guests. If available, you should try for two weeks or more.

Why the Owner Chose Bemidji
Westwood is a part of a lakeshore property purchased by my Aunt Elvera and husband in 1947, the first time I visited there. Growing up on a farm not far away gave us opportunity to visit there in the summer. My brother Paul and partner Jack Buhn purchased the property in 1972 and have been remodeling and landscaping ever since. Even though I have lived in San Diego for 37 years, Moose Lake is still home to me.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Did you ever go somewhere and take along a bunch of stuff to do...and come home with it undone. Fly from San Diego over our wonderful country and see the scenery change. Gaze out the window at the lakes below as you descend into Bemidji. Two miles down a winding tree lined road and the outside world is forgotten. You have arrived at Nirvana. For guests, it is all manner of restful "inging". For me, that is pontooning, transplanting trees on the 100 acres, mowing lawns, landscaping, ect, and continuous communing with nature, good friends, and long time guests.

A beautiful visit including the beginning of the mighty Mississippi which flows north to the first city on the river, Bemidji and then east to pass through a chain of lakes just south of Moose Lake
Northwest/Delta connects in Minneapolis to the world. It is about 25 miles west of Moose Lake.
From here, water flows south to the Missippi and the Gulf of Mexico or north to Hudson Bay.
Our competitor at the other end of Moose Lake. A great place to stop for short orders on your pontoon cruise around the lake.
A great place to launch your boat for a cruise of the chain on lakes connected by the Mississippi. And full house on taco night.
Many guests head off each morning to their secret lake "x" for special fishing. Their are many in the area.
Lake Winnibigoshish is great if you are looking for muskies. The north shore, just 8 miles southeast of moose lake, has the largest rookery of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states.
Due to surveying slip in 1882, 28 acres of virgin old-growth red pine and 18 acres of spruce-fir forest remain untouched with white pine over 300 years old.
Are your kids staying at the camp to learn one of many foreign languages? Come stay at Westwood while your kids are at camp.

My wife, Nilla, and I have traveled many times to all continents over the last 40 years and still do. For her, there is nothing like her homestead in Bavaria. For me, there is no where in the world as peaceful and rewarding as Moose Lake. It is our little "lake wobegon".

After spending years trying to escape the Texas summer heat in Northern Minnesota, we finally found the perfect retreat in Westwood. You have it all here---a beautiful private waterfront setting that is part of the Moose Lake Resort. This resort complex is truly unique with its massive manicured grounds, sandy beach area, and a spectacular lodge with a computer room, pool table, kitchen facilities and even a bar with tap beer at your disposal. Although Westwood is our accommodations of choice,one could not go wrong by selecting any of the other cabins at the Resort----each is very special in an unbelievable setting with the ultimate in amenities.
