Our Winter Vacation Home of Choice!

Guest: Bill Onorato (McLean, VA)

Durango House has become our winter vacation home of choice. We love the ambiance, comfort and great location, a few minutes down the road from Durango Mountain Resort/Purgatory. Everything was fine and we plan, hopefully, to continue to return for our annual family ski week for many years to come.

Christmas Vacation

Guest: Melissa (Albuquerque)
Date of Stay: 12/22/11 Review Submitted: 01/21/12

Our family of 10 - 6 adults and 4 kids - stayed comfortably at Durango House. The kitchen was well equipped and the house was laid out perfectly for relaxing and being together. The older kids could walk right outside and play and since the home is on a deadend they were totally safe from traffic. We also used the pool at the clubhouse but they did not provide towels as stated in the contract. The fireplace was perfect for the cold snowy days and nights. The views were amazing! The owner and caretaker were very responsive to our questions and needs. All and all this was a great family Christmas vacation and we would love to visit again!

My friends and our families stayed at the Durango House for Iron Horse weekend in May, and loved it so much that my buddies and I went again in August for three days. What a great place to hang with a bunch of your friends after a day of mountain biking! We will certainly stay again, and look forward to future trips in Durango thanks to the Durango House.

Texas meets Colorado Family 2011

Guest: Texas Family (Texas)
Date of Stay: 08/01/11 Review Submitted: 08/10/11

What a great time! What a view from the upstairs window! My family and I had a wonderful time staying at the Durango House. It was comforting knowing that once we were done with our daily activities (zip lining, shopping, swimming, etc), we were coming back to a spacious, welcoming home. Having access to the Cascade Villiage amenities was SUPER helpful, as we vacationed during the rainy season and we experienced many afternoon showers. :) Some of our fondest memories in this home include making smores by the fire and sitting on the deck while watching the most beautiful sunrise. My family and I were able to take some wonderful pictures!! The only issue we would comment on would be the bugs with which we shared bathroom and closet space, but what is a mountain experience without bugs??? :) Thank you for opening your home to us. We will always remember our Colorado Vacation 2011. Val

We stayed for 5 nights with 2 other families - total of 6 adults and 5 kids. Durango House was PERFECT for us. Location was great! We were worried about not being ski in/ski out, but it's only a mile away and it worked out perfectly. Great value! If we go back to Durango, we'll definitely book the Durango House again!

Perfect for Iron Horse weekend!

Date of Stay: 06/25/10 Review Submitted: 06/06/11

Myself and two other couples (along with our 4 kids total) stayed at the Durango House for Iron Horse weekend. It is about 28 miles outside of Durango right along US 550 in Cascade Village. It is set away from the primary complex which gave us all the privacy and quiet that we could want. We did not want to stay in Durango on such a crowded and busy weekend, but we did go into town and it was nice to get away from the crazy after a long day in town. The house is comfortable, spacious and very well maintained. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we have already made plans to return next year.

Paradise in the Mountains

Our families had a wonderful time in this beautiful home. Large family room, master suites with jacuzzi tubs, large well-equipped kitchen with two dining tables, access to Cascade Village saunas, hot tubs, and heated pool are just a few of the fabulous amenities. Easy access to the slopes, snowmobiling, restaurants at Durango Mountain Resort. We enjoyed ourselves so much, it was hard to leave. We'll definately book this house again!!!

We returned to Durango House this January after several years elsewhere. We were happy to return. It suits our extended family very well. Great location, only a few minutes from the ski slopes of Durango Mountain/Purgatory. We'll return again next year and thereafter, God willing! Looking forward to it!

This house was perfect for your family Christmas reunion. The 4 foot of new snow was really great and the kids could go sledding and snow shoeing right out the front door. Great location, peaceful and quiet. We did not want to leave and go back home. The great views were very enjoyable. The kids loved the indoor pool and hot tub at Cascade Village. The 2 coffee pots really helped out in the mornings with a large group. I would definately recommend this to anyone.

We came to Durango for the Annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic and stayed at the Durango House. What a wonderful home in a beautiful setting! The large windows in the living room have an amazing view of the mountains. We dined at the Sow's Ear that is located at the Silverpick Lodge that's about 5 minutes from the house. Wonderful food and great service! I would highly recommend the Durango House to my family and friends.

We came back to Durango House this year after enjoying it so much last year. You know, the location is just perfect there smack in-between Durango and Silverton. We only stayed 3 nights, but it was the best "base" for running back and forth and enjoying all the sights and activities of this area. Then, at night, we had a serene, quiet place to rest (unless the elk herd decides to come up to the house and start bugling! LOL!) So, we had a great time once again, and still recommend Durango House for your southwest Colorado stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your home with 2 other couples. One morning we hiked up by the water tower and then hiked back the other direction along the trail to Durango Mt. We rode down the alpine slide, shopped and had a wonderful lunch and Mojito's on the patio! The enjoyed an excellent dinner at The Boar's Head just about a mile south on our first night there, and also picked up pizza in town and ate it on the deck with a glass of wine! The large dining room table was perfect for our nightly game of mexican train (dominoes). The privacy of the home was perfect and the area was very quiet and peaceful, and of course gorgeous! Thanks for a great time by these Okie's who can't wait to go back! We even lucked out with the wonderful master bed and bath downstairs - lucky us.

We had a wonderful time at your home. There was so much to see and do. We went to Mesa Verde, the Bar D Ranch, Four Corners, Silverton, Shopping at Durango, rode the train, rode the Alpine Slide, shopped at Honeyville. We were busy, busy, but had lots of fun. We had a fire almost every night~~we had to have 'smores! The fireplace is easy to light using the wall switch. The mornings were in the mid 30's and the afternoons were in the upper 60's. The views were postcard perfect. The accomodations were wonderful. So nice with little ones to have a washer and dryer. We so enjoyed both decks. We saw so many animals, lots of marmets (they really entertain), deer, hawks, eagle. The stars were beautiful at night~~ you almost felt as if you could reach out and touch them. The area is perfect for privacy and seclusion. It was really quiet at night. Our whole family ~~ son, daughter and her husband and their 3 little children and my husband and I so enjoyed your home. Thank you for sharing. It is beautifully decorated and so comfy. We hope to use it again in the winter time and see all the snow. We enjoyed hikes too, the one up by the 2 water towers really paid off~~ we saw a beautiful waterfall and the water was so cold and lots of flowers in bloom. It was a very peaceful hike. Thank you again. Bill and Becky

Thank you so much for allowing us the accommodations of your lovely home. It made our stay in Durango quite enjoyable. Your home was beyond our expectations. Not only was your home perfect, the view was breath taking. My two year old grandson called it his Colowada home! Additionally, the staff at Cascade Village were so nice and eager to help us. We had a wonderful Christmas

Our five children, two with significant others, for a total of 9 packed into our Surburban on the trip from southern Arizona couldn't have been happier to arrive at Durango House to begin our escape from the desert. Fresh powder allowed us to snowshoe right from the front door. We enjoyed two perfect days of skiing and one day ice skating and shopping in Durango. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals and the dining room table was large enough to accomodate our annual family poker game. The home and setting were perfect. The whole experience was hassle free. We highly recommend Durango House for the perfect Colorado escape. Mike and Eileen Rudkin and family, Sierra Vista, Arizona

Wow. The online photos don't lie about the incredible scenery. Wonderful house--our stay was just perfect. Our last night there, a coyote came around, howling at the Milky Way, his voice echoing eerily off the hillsides. Goosebumps!

What a fabulous home & location! In fact it's so great,it was hard to even think about leaving during the day to go sightseeing. Not only does each room have it's own beautiful view, but we really loved just sitting out on the various decks drinking coffee in the mornings or a nice glass of wine in the evening as we watched the sun set & cast it's rosy, warm glow on the mountains that surrounded us.Then we would move indoors to relax by a warm fire. Our time there was far too short & we can't wait to return & do it again. Thank you for sharing your wonderful, comfortable, home with us, John,Kathy Jo,my Dad, brother & sister-in-law.
