Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2001
Scott Dombrowski grew up sailing in the historic sea coast community of Marblehead Massachusettes and Karen Dombrowski here at beautiful Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport. She has worked at our local Bradbury Brothers Market on and off for over 25 years and recently ran the Goose Rocks General Store. We have been married for 28 years meeting in college in 1978. We have been and are active in the Kennebunkport community, in the school system and scouting when our children were younger, at the Church on the Cape and to a large degree as board members and very active volunteers with the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. This is our local, private non-profit Land Trust, preserving the special aspects of Kennebunkport for us,you and our future generations to enjoy. For the past 17 years we have been blessed to be the Lighthouse Keepers at Goat Island Lighthouse, our local island lighthouse, rich in beauty and local maritime heritage. We are back to spending our summers on the island and have made our renovated sea captain's village home available to rent for others to enjoy and experience our special and beautiful community while we are meeting and greeting visitors and running the Trust's Goat Island aspects of the Discovery Days Children Program during the summer. Please come join us.
Why the Owner Chose Kennebunkport
We chose back in 1982, when we got married, to live where we wanted to vacation and become an integral part of our community. Pier Road where our home is located is along the bottom and easterly side of Cape Porpoise Harbor in the Cape Porpoise section of Kennebunkport. This location epitomizes the convenient and friendly village setting along with viewing the historical and natural beauty of the area. It is not necessary for us to go anywhere else.

What can I say...we just loved our stay. It's a very large house, so even though there were 9 of us, we were NOT crowded AT ALL. The playroom with its wide-screen t.v. (not to mention the 3 or 4 other t.v.'s throughout the hosue), ping pong table and weight-lifting equipment was a favourite meeting place in the evening for my grandkids. The kitchen boasts 2 ranges and plenty of room for several people to help out prepare the meals. There are 3 areas where you can have your meals (a closed-in dining room and 2 areas off the kitchen). The house is situated in a quaint and quiet part of the village, and is close to at least 2 beaches and a wonderful shopping area in Kenneybunkport. I'd like to also add that the house was perfectly clean. And what can I say about the owners - they were delightful and even took us by boat to visit the lighthouse. Thanks Karen and Scott for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We very much enjoyed our vacation. Helen Dickenson

We just returned home after a wonderful week long vacation with our grown children. I can't begin to tell you how great this home was from the huge kitchen to the awesome game room. The owners Scott & Karen are really great people. Scott came and picked up all 8 of our family and took us to the island for a great tour of the lighthouse. The location of this house was perfect. Kennebunkport is only a 5 minute drive from the house. There were several restraunts within walking distance as well as a store that had everything from fresh baked muffins to fresh cuts of meats. I would recommend this home to any family that is looking for a place to either see the sights or just relax and spend some quality time together. Would definitely rent this home again. Thanks Scott & Karen for sharing your home with us and for making our family vacation one to remember. The Steinbruckner family.

I am late in my review (Sorry Scott), However, I was thrlled to find that this Rental exceeded my expections. I rented for myself, three boys(ages10-16) and a visiting friend. The location was the best. I love Cape Porpoise. I could walk for coffee, walk for groceries, walk for lunch or dinner at the pier, even walk to order lobsters cooked for dinner! Goose Rocks beach is lovely and we spent most of every day there. The property child friendly, However stairs could be difficult for toddler. Great third Floor Game Room. Scott is a great host. And was always available for my sometimes silly questions. When it was time to leave. My kids thanked me and we were all saddened to see it end.

This home was great for entertaining, playing games or just relaxing, enjoying the views and the quiet. Even though it was walking distance to restaurants and a grocery store, the landscaping and location on the property made the guests feel secluded. The kitchen was well equiped with contemporary appliances and plentiful dishes, pots & pans, etc. The location is close to the water for boating activities and just a short drive to the beaches. The property would not be appropriate for anyone with an issue with steep stairs.

Our children and grandchildren joined us here for a week in July. Comfortably large enough for us to all gather together for meals (including other relatives who dropped by), the home also provided spaces for people to retreat for private time, as well as space for office work. Wireless access was wonderful. Though we were gone most days sight-seeing (so much to see and do in the area!), ping-pong and foosball were lots of fun for at-home times. Home was clean, well furnished; porches and yard with hammock was inviting. I enjoy cooking and this kitchen had everything, including some spices, large pots for preparing seafood, grills... Wonderful cupboards full of any dish you need (we had 12 people for dinner one night); cooking utensils and pans. Beds were comfortable, closets were spacious, there were ample towels for beach or home (even for 9-10 people), laundry room was MOST convenient. Art Gallery, fish and seafood markets, restaurants, and a well-stocked grocery market (that is open 7AM-9PM with a great deli, hot coffee, fresh baked goods - the muffins are incredible) are a quick walk away. All the amenities are in original (or restored) buildings that retain the charm of this historic area. Very short drive to Dock Square in Kennebunkport, which would have anything you did not find in Cape Porpoise, along with all the tourists. Cape Porpoise is quiet and non-touristy, which we loved: EVERYONE we encountered was friendly! Unforeseen Positive: One afternoon and evening there was excitement in the air as country singing sensation Taylor Swift taped part of a video next door. Unforeseen Negatives: We were there during an incredible heat wave. Unusual for Maine, temps were in the high 90's. There is no a/c at the house, but there are some fans and Scott brought over more as well. The stairs are typical of construction for the age of the house: they are steep and the tread is narrower than today; not a problem for ages 3-60; a gate (provided) is a good idea to keep very young ones from venturing up them alone to the second floor. Scott is planning to add spindles to the banister to the third story to make it more child-safe. Scott and Karen were wonderful hosts, and even provided us with a boat trip over to Goat Island to see the Lighthouse. Scott filled us in on the history of the area, of the Lighthouse, and of the foundation working to preserve the area. Charming, gracious, inviting describe both the home and the hosts. We recommend them both.
