Dominical villa description
Our casually elegant home “Coastal Breezes”, offers you a jaw-dropping ocean view and the unique location offers the utmost privacy. It is perfect for a secluded romantic getaway. Almost every room in this predominately glass home captures the most spectacular ocean views imaginable.
Our home is located in the beautiful Rancho Costa Verde Estates (RCVE) in Escaleras on the Pacific Coast between Dominical and Uvita. It is a private community of estate lots created by long-time developers who are committed to reforesting and re-establishing wildlife corridors throughout the property. There is plenty of wildlife both on our 20 acres and throughout the rest of RCVEs 1200 acres. Watch for toucans, parrots, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, jaguarundis, pizotes, peccaries, hummingbirds, morpho butterflies , sloths, and much more.
We call our home 'Coastal Breezes' for good reason. With the nearly constant gentle ocean breezes in the daytime and the mountain breezes at night, you will be pleasantly surprised at the comfortable temperature which is generally 8 degrees cooler than at sea level. Just slide open all the glass doors and windows and enjoy outdoor tropical living at its finest. There are also ceiling fans in the bedrooms, kitchen and living area.
The house was designed to maximize the spectacular views from every room. It sits on the Fila Costena, the ridge closest to the ocean on the entire Pacific coast of Coast Rica. It’s reminiscent of Big Sur on the central coast of California but with a tropical flair. The house comfortably sleeps 4 with 2 bedrooms, and the sound of the waves will lull you to sleep. There is an additional comfy 8’ long couch in the living area. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, stove/oven and all the associated cookware and cutlery. You can dine inside or out, either way you’ll feel like you're suspended in air and you’ll be surrounded by nature. You can shower inside or perhaps you'd prefer the outside shower nestled in the jungle, just one step outside the main bathroom.
Only 15 minutes to the closest beach, you may want to try kayaking, surfing, bodysurfing or horseback riding at the beach. Other activities include visiting Nauyaca Falls on horseback, scuba diving or snorkeling at Isla Ballena or Cano Island, or deep sea fishing. Some prefer kayaking the mangroves of the Terraba River or paddling into wave cut caves along the coast. You can walk out to the tip of the Whale’s Tail at low tide from Ballena National Park or to hidden coves and expansive beaches up and down the coast. At Hacienda Baru you can sail through the jungle on a zip line or take a bird watching or canopy tour. Wherever you go, don’t forget your camera and binoculars. That includes if you decide to just relax on the terrace and watch for whales or have cocktails.
My goal is to make your vacation THEE vacation to remember. I can help you by arranging for an airport pick up, get you a discount car rental, book your tours, acquire additional housekeeping, and arrange for a fabulous soothing massage on the front terrace as you gaze at the wild blue Pacific. Just ask.
Don’t forget your laptop. You can access the internet wirelessly from any room in the house. There is a comfortable desk area or perhaps you’d prefer the front terrace looking out over the ocean.
Lastly, remember, if you choose Coastal Breezes, you will be staying in my home. That means when you aren't living here, I will be. Consequently, Coastal Breezes is well kept and has all the comforts of home....except you'll be in paradise!

If you are looking to relax and take in the most beautiful of surroundings - then this is the place. With the sounds of nature - howler monkeys and toucans, it is an awesome place in the jungle. The temperatures are perfect with the breezes coming up the mountain. Then the 180 degree open view of the Pacific Ocean was awesome. We truly enjoyed the extreme privacy of this home and felt completely safe. Be aware - you MUST have a 4x4 high clearance vehicle with significant horse power, to get to Coastal Breezes. The road from San Jose is a wonderful paved road, but all other roads in Costa Rica are rock and dirt and can be rough, just go slow. But, again, once you arrive at Coastal Breezes you will not want to leave - truly a paradise on the mountain with all the luxuries you could want.

Owner response: Thanks to Jack and all my other guests who have taken the time to post a review. It is helpful to me, and also to my future guests. I would like to address the need for a 4X4 mentioned by Jack. I absolutely agree with Jack's comment about many Costa Rican roads being mostly rough dirt roads. That is also noted in tour books where they recommend having a 4X4 to get to most places. Having said that, I respectfully disagree that it is necessary to have a "high clearance vehicle with significant horsepower" to get to my house. My guests have driven the road for several years in small 4X4s which have served them well. I understand that some would prefer or feel more comfortable in a high clearance and horsepower vehicle, but based upon my and my previous guests experience, it is not a requirement. Jack's recommendation to go slow is good advice for driving on any of our dirt roads. If you do choose to visit my beautiful private paradise, please do get a 4X4 of your choice as it will allow you to experience the many adventures that Costa Rica has to offer. Thanks again to Jack and all of you that have posted reviews!
We stayed at Coastal Breezes for a week in May 2012 and had a wonderful stay. The house looks exactly as the photos depict; unfortunately, photos just can't capture the surroundings that Coastal Breezes offers - that is something that visitors will have to see themselves to experience. We woke most mornings to howler monkeys playing in the trees just outside, and saw an abundance of other small wildlife and birds (toucans every day - wow!). The house provided exactly what we were looking for: a stunning, quiet, peaceful place to get away for a while. Its thoughtful construction allows guests to really experience the surroundings no matter where you are, inside or out (i.e. glass walls, infinity-edge wraparound deck, outdoor shower). The owner is very kind, organized and efficient: she was quick to reply to any questions as well as provide us with a ton of local information, which we utilized and kept very busy! I am grateful that the owner has chosen to share this small piece of paradise with others, and that we were able to experience it. I would not hesitate to stay at Coastal Breezes again, given the wonderful experience that we had this year.

Words will fail to do Coastal Breezes justice. You must go if you have the opportunity. You will not be disappointed. My new wife and I honeymooned here. I can't conceive of a better place for a getaway. Though it's a little off the beaten path, it's very much worth it. This place is private, stunningly beautiful, and has almost all of the comforts of home. We will return as soon as possible.

Coastal Breezes vacation
Coastal Breezes vacation
Coastal Breezes was a wonderful place for us to visit Costa Rica. We enjoyed it so much, we went back there a second time. The house offers a spectacular view of the Tale of the Whale where we could see the effect of the tides throughout the day. In the evening, we enjoyed “happy hour” on the balcony watching the sun set. We love to cook, and we found the kitchen well equipped for this. Plenty of sandy beaches are within a short drive. Then you can come home and take an outdoor shower. Maybe the “voyeur toucan” will pay you a visit. This is a great location from which to make trips to some great sights that aren't as "touristy", such as the Nauyaca Falls, a hike at Hacienda Baru, San Isidro, the Los Cusingos Bird Sanctuary, Manuel Antonio, the foothills of el Chirripo, Drake Bay and a different fabulous beach every day!

What an unforgettable experience! My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon not really knowing what to expect, but we could not have asked for anything more amazing. The house itself is remarkable: on a secluded part of the mountain where we had the privacy to use the outdoor shower (attached to the bathroom) if we chose; glass almost all the way around so that we always had a beautiful view of the forest and the ocean; and an outdoor deck that was the perfect setting for every meal and every sunset. Lynne (the owner) treated us like royalty. She helped make reservations for the activities we did (zip-lining, horseback riding, etc.), and recommended a great restaurant where, when we entered, we were greeted with friendly smiles and "You must be Lynne's friends." She was extremely helpful but not at all overbearing...we only actually saw her the first day when she gave us the walk-though. For being as private and secluded as it is, the location of Coastal Breezes is pretty convenient. It's a 15-20 minute drive in either direction to Uvita and Dominical--both small towns where you can buy groceries and go to small shops. We also went to the national park in Uvita, and surfed and fished in Dominical (we found a local fisherman to take us out--cheaper than the commercial boats...and quite an experience!). Our timing wasn't ideal--it was the tail end of rainy season and the beginning of dry season, so it rained on and off while we were there. But the weather was beautiful when it was sunny, and even when it wasn't, it was cool to see the rain coming in from our balcony. All in all, this trip was the best either of us had ever been on, and we hope to make it back to beautiful Costa Rice (and Coastal Breezes) someday in the future.

If you love adventure, warm friendly people, incredible wildlife, privacy and a view that will spoil you forever then coastal breezes is the place for you!! Located exactly 7.3 km off the highway, at an elevation of 2,000 ft it is a true diamond nestled in the jungle on a mountain ridge. Simply put, there is absolutely no better view around!! You are literally surrounded by glass and during the day see all the incredible ocean views and jungle wildlife while at night you feel like you are suspended in the stars. In the morning you awake to the calls of the howler monkeys. The clouds roll in and out as if by magic and there is always something new to see. We really enjoyed the outside shower. Everyday a fiery billed toucan would sit in the tree across, as if to help us plan our day. It has all the amenities. It was really fun skyping our family and being able to walk around with the laptop and show them the incredible jungle and views. Lynne is a wonderful person and was always available to help you plan jungle excursions or take care of any additional needs you may have. We will definitely be returning!!

We arrived on Dec 20, 2010 in heavy rain and could not see the ocean. Next morning sun woke us up around 6am, and the view from our bedroom was breathtaking: mountains and jungle on the left and ocean right in front. You never get tired of this view - you can just sit outside on the deck and savor the view. It changes with the time of the day: some days we would see jungle covered in clouds while down below on the beach you could see sunny weather, then clouds wear off; other days you would have sun throughout the day; sunsets are also beautiful. You can see when kow tide uncovers the Ballena "Whale Tail" peninsula. Some days we were tempted to stay home all day long, just read, sip wine or coffee and enjoy the view. The house is basically built of glass: you can see all sides from inside the house. Both bedrooms create an impression that you sleep outside. But we preferred to have our breakfasts outside on the deck. The jungle starts on the left and a trail leads down to a creek and a small waterfall. There is a beautiful valley view from the front of the house. This house has definitely the best location and views in the whole gated community. The ride to the main road (Costanera highway) takes about 20 minutes (7km). From there there are many choices of beaches and other activities in Dominical, Uvita and beyond. There are two supermarkets in Uvita. Landlady Lynne provided us with information about local activities and restaurants and even made reservations to ATV tour and Exotica restaurant (highly recommended!). We had a good balance between beach and other activities and enjoyed our stay very much. Lynne was always very helpful and available by phone or email. Internet at home works well. It is too slow for streaming but sufficient for web browsing and emails. We had internet failure for several hours but later it recovered.

Beauty and Exclusivity!
Beauty and Exclusivity!
My wife and I spent our honeymoon in this location and this was absolutely breath-taking! We were literally "Walking on Clouds"! This beautiful home offers 180 degree view of the ocean and a 180 degree view of the rainforest. This is the LAST house on the crest of a mountain!! My wildest dreams could not have even imagined a place like this exists in this world. This house is located on the Pacific side of Costa Rica where the Mountains meet the Beach. We took advantage of the following excursions: Zip Line tour, White Water Rapids, Horse Back Riding, Surf Lessons, Snorkeling, Deep Sea Fishing, ATV tour, visited beautiful beaches, and sat underneath incredible water falls! All of these activities are VERY close to this house. After you enjoy some of the incredible excursions the area has to offer, retire back to Paradise on top of the mountain! I would rate this place 10 stars if given the opportunity! The owner of the property is VERY accomodating, and will assist you with booking any tour you are interested in. I look forward to a lasting friendship with the owner. Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU for making our honeymoon better than I could ever imagine!!

Best ocean view in an elegant hilltop home
Best ocean view in an elegant hilltop home
The dramatic negative edge deck is stunning and reveals the Pacific ocean below your feet. The location is spectacular and offers seclusion, and also an abundance of jungle life. The owner was extremely helpful in giving information about the property and provided detailed maps and directions. Also some great suggestions were provided of what to do and see in the area, like Don Lulo's horseback riding tour to the Nauyaca waterfall which was wonderful. For us, this has been the best VRBO experience yet. The pictures could not capture the magnificence of this property. The location, beautiful home, and fantastic surrounding makes for a vacation that leaves us wanting to plan our return trip next year.

Why the Owner Chose Dominical:
I choose to build in this area for several reasons. First, the ocean view just can't be beat, it's drop dead gorgeous. I also love nature and I'm surrounded by it here. Unlike the beach areas, I don't have to deal with mosquitos and many other biting insects that are far more prevalent near the water, but I still get to enjoy this incredible ocean view, and even hear the waves roll in. The nearly constant ocean or mountain breeze keeps me cooler here, it's anywhere from 5-10 degrees cooler which means no air conditioning is needed. Lastly, I love my privacy and peace and quiet. If you want to get away from the fast lane, or perhaps have a romantic get away, this is the place.
