Relaxed & Recharged

Guest: AJ (Carlsbad, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/01/12 Review Submitted: 05/12/12

Glendon and his property exceeded our expectations. Glendon is a wonderful host, and his two chocolate labs are super friendly and very well behaved. The home and gardens show Glendon's thoughtful (and thought provoking) design. The rooms are spacious and the beds and other furniture are very comfortable. The location is very peaceful and we enjoyed wonderful mountain and sunset views from the house and decks. Walking and hiking opportunities present themselves right from the back door. I'm not sure if the pictures show the fire pit, but that was a very nice feature too. End result = relaxed and recharged. Difficult to return to our place by the beach in SoCal...

My husband, 2 sons, 2 daughters-in-law, and I spent a glorious week in Glendon's gorgeous home in Sedona. The 6 of us had plenty of space to spread out -- together and separately!!!! The property is amazing and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious home in a breath-taking setting.

Living in a Piece of Art

Guest: Amy (Midwest)
Date of Stay: 03/15/12 Review Submitted: 03/28/12

The Cliff House is not only a unique property, but the fact that it was built and designed to integrate with the red rocks makes it a wonderful modern living experience. You feel as though you are living in a piece of art! The owner clearly spent enumerable hours attending to every detail and my husband and I appreciated being a part of that experience for a week. Although the house has three bedrooms in addition to several outdoor living spaces, we recommend it for a couple. The cost of leasing this property is competitive with an in-town condo, villa or bed and breakfast accommodation having only one or two bedrooms and much smaller indoor and outdoor living spaces. Staying at The Cliff House will give you an authentic sense of what it's like to live in a home in Sedona. The location of the property is convenient and private. The view to and from the property is jaw-dropping. The views inside the property are evident at every turn, from the round windows that reveal the distant landscape, to the added windows for morning sunlight, and the uniquely placed windows that give you a peak at the cliffs behind you. The views outside are just as remarkable. The evening black sky and brilliantly lit stars are particularly dramatic in the silence of the surroundings. When you come home after a wonderful day in the Sedona area, you will be able to extend that experience into your accommodations if you stay at The Cliff House.

Great hiking, right outside the door.

This home is at an ideal location. It is close to Red Rock State Park, Crescent Moon Picnic area, and directly adjacent to Coconino National Forest land. Scheurman Mountain (the back yard) has several established trails; an easy 2 hour hike along the upper and lower Pyramid Mountain trails can take you from the house, up 800 feet over Schuerman’s eastern peak to the High School, and back home on a gently rolling trail bordered by exotic cacti and with amazing views of the Sedona scenery. My wife and I did this trip several mornings as a warm up to visiting some of the area’s popular trails later in the day. Inside the rooms are spacious and sparsely furnished. Amenities’ include a gourmet’s kitchen with high countertops, several large decks and oversized picture windows. Looking out, you are surrounded by the site’s natural beauty; a red rock cliff face in the back and the Oak Creek valley in the front. The owner is friendly and helpful. I recommend this to anyone lucky enough to vacation in Sedona.

Just came back from a wonderful weekend in Sedona with my two sisters. We stayed at the beautiful Cliff House. The views were spectacular and we truly appreciated the peacefulness and uniqueness of this property. I wish we could have stayed longer. Glendon is very helpful and the care and pride that he takes in this home are quite evident. I would definitely go back.

We were awestruck before we even walked into the house...

Guest: Sulley (Indianapolis, Indiana)
Date of Stay: 10/08/11 Review Submitted: 10/24/11

Driving the Red Rock Loop Road to the house is gorgeous, then you arrive and realize you are actually going to be living on one of the red rocks... The view from every window is amazing and each of the multiple decks suits a different mood and time of day. Watched the moon set over the rocks from the master bedroom and then watched shooting stars. Close to everything we wanted to see, but felt like we were miles away from everything - and every trip back and forth to the house on the Red Rock Loop Road was spectacular. Perfect house for a romantic getaway - very private and quiet, but Glendon was always available to answer questions about good restaurants and site-seeing. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Sedona after staying here! (For birders, watch the white-throated swifts that live at the top of the rock behind the house at dawn and dusk...)

Simply magnificent! My wife, 10 year old daughter, and I recently had the privilege of spending a week at Glendon's house. We've been to Sedona several times and have rented houses before; while these other houses were nice, there really is no comparison (and they were more expensive). If we are ever able to go back to Sedona there is no doubt that we would love to stay here again. The house is gorgeous, in wonderful condition, and in a great location off of Lower Red Rock Loop Road. While the pictures on the website are nice, they don't quite capture how beautiful, elegant, spacious, and comfortable the house is. It belongs in the pages of Architectural Digest. There are a host of terrific hiking trails right off of the edge of the property. Glendon also graciously led us up to the top of the bluff behind the house, a very doable 20 minute climb that offers as a reward spectacular views of the red rocks. If you stay here you really need to try to do this hike! Glendon is a delightful host, very helpful with lots of good suggestions, while at the same time respecting our privacy. His two chocolate labs (Coco and Charlie) are utterly charming. We so enjoyed the house and the setting we ended up eating all of our dinners here, meals on the deck were very special. Our advice is simple -- if you are going to Sedona, and are looking to rent a home, stay here -

Amazing Home – Awe Inspiring Location!! No better place to stay in Sedona.

Guest: Lisa (Atlanta)
Date of Stay: 02/19/11 Review Submitted: 05/05/11

I had the joy of watching sunsets, snowfalls and stars from this amazing home. The photos do not capture the true beauty of this home or its location. The light plays over the cliffs and across the rooms all through the day, changing the view and the feel of the place. It gently wakened me in the morning and lulled me to a restful sleep at night. The trails and vistas around the home were perfect and now are some of my favorite in the Sedona area. The home is a blend of just enough spaciousness to capture the feel of the desert, any yet you could still feel the warmth of a true home. I loved the clean lines throughout the home and the lack of clutter – it helped me to “clean out” all the stress and "clutter" that I had brought with me. Glendon is a perfect host, you can feel his love for the place and his pups just made me smile every time I saw their “happy tails”. He is available when you need him to be and unobtrusive when you are just enjoying your time. His connection to the place enables him to offer views or places that you may not find on your own and I appreciated seeing some of the special parts of the area through his eyes. I have stayed at many villas and homes around the world and this one was truly one of the best and is certainly the best accommodation (by far) that you will find in the Sedona area. I have been to Sedona quite a few times and stayed at most of the high end resorts which simply do not compare. The only drawback is that I don’t think I can ever go back to Sedona and be happy staying anywere else!! I'll be back Glendon - see you soon!!

Tranquil, Warm, Inspiring Place for Being

Guest: Donna (Chicago)
Date of Stay: 02/11/11 Review Submitted: 11/08/11

I am called to Sedona every few years. This year it was for a reunion with 4 dear friends (we all met in junior high school) +one flexible husband, and my nephew from Phoenix joined us for 33 hours. Discovering this gorgeous Cliff House last winter spoiled me forever. It spoiled us all. We all want to return to this magnificent home. Glendon's descriptions and pictures in this VRBO post are spot on. What you see is what you get and it is inspirational. He designed and built the home, studio and some of the artistic furniture. He is also the perfect host. Upon entering the house you are struck by the spectacular red rock views visible through the surrounding windows. There is tranquility within and around this home beyond description. We loved being able to walk out any door and hit the hiking trails just a few feet away. We also loved cooking together in the contemporary kitchen and eating on the porch. Wine at sunset on the upper deck was exquisite. Gathering around the warm crackling outdoor fire pit on a starry starry night, a now and then wet cold-nose kiss from the resident chocolate Labradors, breathing fresh crisp air, takes you right to precious moments of presence...moment of now.

My wife and i just returned from visiting Glendon's home from a celebration of my 50th birthday. As a builder myself, i immediately recognized the incredible attention to detail of every facet of this comfortable, sleek contemporary dream home. As mentioned in other reviews, the views and location of the property are perfect. Great light everywhere in the house and every amenity you could ask for from flat screen hd tv to ipod imputs on stereo, firepit, hard line fueled large bbq grill, outdoor tub, many decks & patios, comfortable beds, etc, etc. Glendon built not only the house but almost all of the furniture down to the hangers in the front closet - amazing. Great time and the house is big enough for three couples with three full bedrooms each with their own private bathroom. You will fall in love with this house and this place. We will never forget it..

I stayed here with my husband, 8 year old son an mother for 5 nights and wished it could have been longer. Both the house and the surrounding environment are stunning. Walking and biking opportunities right from the house are excellent. The view from the cliff behind the house is like every archetypal picture of Sedona you've ever seen all rolled into one. If you feel you must drive somewhere then you'll be spoiled for choice. As others have already said, Glendon is ready with information and guidance if you need it, but if you'd rather be left alone that's fine too. I hope very much we'll be back there next year.

You can't find a place like this!

Guest: Patch (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 11/04/10 Review Submitted: 11/18/10

We are three couples who have known each other for over 29 years. Glendon's place afforded us each a bedroom and a private bath, while giving us the gift of community space including DVD, Television, Barbecue, Fire-Pit, a large dining room and magnificaent views of the peaceful Sedona formations. Glendon greeted us with six glasses and a fine bottle of wine as he toured us through the property. We looked forward to happy encounters with Charley and Cocoa, his twin chocolate labs. Glendon, after reviewing his requests for treating the property respectfully, was available but allowed us our own space. The property was remote but within minutes of restaurants and the uptown area. You couldn't ask for a more peaceful and accomodating property. Most importantly, Glendon quickly and readily returned our security deposit in full. Both my wife and I agree, we would stay here again (and again and again and again)!

Enveloped by red rock, The Cliff House is an extraordinary house in an extraordinary location. We spent a week there in October, soaking up the beauty of the surroundings and relaxing in the thoughtfully designed space. Glendon is a phenomenal host. We were sad to have to leave at the end of our stay and head back to reality. But, we’ll be back, no doubt about it!!!!

We have been to Sedona many times and this is by far, the best place we have stayed. It has a perfect location in the Red Rock Loop area. You are only 10 minutes from town, but totally removed from the hustle and bustle of tourists. The house has a great open feel to it, with a lot of privacy and spectacular views. It was very clean and well maintained. Glendon is a gracious and knowledgeable host, pointing out some great hiking possibilities just around the corner. We will be coming back.

Awesome ! Cliff House is exactly as described plus much more. The home is very private and super comfortable. We spent a lot of time listening to wildlife, gazing at the stars, and admiring the Red Rocks that surrounded us. We stayed for a week with school age boys, and the hiking trails right out the door could not be beat. The home is in a perfect location for day excursions to Sedona and the surrounding area (Grand Canyon, Ruins, Petroglyphs, Oak Creek, Trail Heads, Montezuma Castle and many more) I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a holiday away from home.

A Real Treat

Guest: NewMommy (Olympic Valley, California)
Date of Stay: 05/17/10 Review Submitted: 07/24/10

The property is nestled underneath an amazing red rock and is quite private. The home was easy to hang out in with our twin baby girls. There are lots of big windows looking out onto various Sedona landscapes. Evenings were spent on the decks. The place is beautifully landscaped with red rock walls, red roses and a great waterfall. We were able to access numerous hiking and biking trails as well the river right from the house. The mountain bike riding in and around Sedona is Epic! Town is just a few minutes away. The owner is very helpful. The place exceeded our expectations. We hope to make it back next season.

Date of Stay: 05/04/10 Review Submitted: 05/25/10

This is a truly beautiful house in a gorgeous setting. Although out of town in a very quiet location it took about 15 minutes to get some chinese takeout from a restaurant in Sedona. We spent a lot of time photographing the views around the house, playing with Glendon's pups, and just enjoying quiet contemplation of the red rocks. It was hard to drive to and from the house without stopping to admire the scenery. We wandered the trail from Glendon's house and the cliffs soaking in the beauty of the rocks and the wildflowers, following donkey paths through arroyos, and stream paths now dry after the Spring runoff. Glendon was a good host. Giving us his full attention when we needed it. And leaving us alone to enjoy our time there. The house has all the amenities and more. I won't spoil it by describing it in detail. You have to see it for yourself.

We couldn't have asked for a more harmonious spot for our college girlfriends getaway than Cliff House. Peaceful setting, striking architecture, spacious bathrooms and stunning indoor/outdoor lounging areas, ideal for enjoying a glass of wine and catching up! Of course, the gorgeous views made it all the more special--the red rock cliff is unbelievably close. We loved having dinner by the fire pit and looking up at the starry Sedona sky. Many thanks to Glendon for giving us restaurant and sightseeing tips, letting us pick the rosemary and for taking three of us (plus his adorable lab-sters KoCo & Charley) on an unforgettable hike up the cliff. One of his great suggestions: having breakfast at the Sedona airport restaurant. My suggestion? Order the banana-nut bread French Toast.

Everthing that the owner offers in the decription and more awaits the vistor. There is no question that property is unique as the surrounding area. My Sedona experience was greatly enhanced by staying at the Cliff House. The house and propery have great views, plus the property is very clean and well maintained. Plus the owner was most helpful during my stay. Yes I would stay at the Cliff House again.

The Cliff House provides an elegant , yet very earth connected pilgrimage base station , allowing one to feel the energy of the red rocks , immersed in the tranquil hillside on which the house is rooted . Location is remote feeling, yet is close to town . I love a Fire Pit , and we had a great Fire Pit here !

Staying at the Sedona Cliff House was a dream getaway from Manhattan. It was private but not too far a drive from the center of town. The house and surrounds were so beautiful that there was little reason to ever leave. The clean, minimalist but inviting decor was a beautiful compliment to the picture window views of the best nature Sedona has to offer. Hiking up the private cliff offered fresh air, exercise, and even more spectacular views of Cathedral Rocks and the entire Red Rock valley. I couldn't recommend this remarkable getaway more highly.

We stayed here. The house is tranquil and elegant and it allows you to experience the red rocks up close. The light changes as the sun sets and .. well you just have to be there for that. We were there for a rainstorm and the water coming down the cliff was also a unique and beautiful experience. Everything is modern and comfortable. It is in a natural setting but still close to town. Well worth it. Sedona at its best.
