We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Vista View near Sooke, B.C. The suite was well appointed, clean and comfortable and it was clearly evident to us that the hosts, Doug and Signy, had paid alot of attention to detail in the setup of the property. Everything we could have possibly needed was supplied. The King size bed (and bedding) was extremely comfortable and the view of the ocean, mountains in the distance, and the personal gardens was fantastic. Deer and a variety of interesting birds are regular visitors. There are alot of interesting things to do in the area from hikes to beaches, Sooke Potholes, kayaking, sightseeing, local artisans. Doug and Signy are knowledgeable about the area and are able to provide recommendations upon request. We definitely would recommend Vista View to our friends and families and hope to return ourselves.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our recent stay at Vista View was a wonderful experience. Our Hosts – Doug & Signy were great. Friendly, available if needed, with great advice about the area. The rental is located up on a hillside offering a good view of the mountains and the strait. It was a great getaway from the city life with a quiet location both day and night. The pictures on the website are what you find when you walk in the apartment and we appreciate the accuracy provided in the VRBO listing. The kitchen was nicely furnished with all the cooking items that you might need. Furniture was comfortable with a great bed in which to sleep. Patio area was a nice place to sit out and enjoy the garden and view with an adjacent hot tub that helped the tired muscles out after a day hiking. There is a gas grill on which we were able to cook the salmon we caught while on our fishing charter. The location is just west of Sooke where you can get groceries or other supplies. The drive to Victoria takes about 40-45 minutes depending on traffic, but a relatively easy drive. Same drive time to Butchart Gardens and other activities on the peninsula. This is definitely on our short list of places to come back to as we thoroughly enjoyed our week escaping the Texas heat. Thanks to our hosts as this was one of the best places we have stayed over the past several years. We spent our time in the area hiking, beach combing, and sightseeing. We went to Butchart Gardens and to Sea Cider to sample cider, which was a great lunch spot with the cider tastings. The hikes we took were on well developed trails that consisted of wide gravel paths. These were in East Sooke Provincial Park, Sooke Potholes, French Beach, Galloping Goose Trail and the Kinsol Train Trestle. Each were fairly level and easy hikes, but offered a good variation of landscapes and experiences. We tried salmon fishing, which was harder than expected, but good time learning. This is a great area if you like to be outside and enjoy nature. We did not eat out often, but we did enjoy the Stickleback Restaurant and the atmosphere of being dockside. Sooke and Vista View provided a welcomed escape and a fantastic vacation experience. Thanks for opening up the apartment, garden and view to us!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

If you get a cozy feeling looking at their pictures, wait until you actually arrive. Signy and Doug have created such a wonderfully warm, and comfortable home away from home that I didn't want to leave. The apartment is impeccably clean and private with all the amenities you could possibly need during your visit. I cooked most of my meals at home. My favorite place was the south facing outdoor patio where I could enjoy eating breakfasts and dinners with absolutely amazing views. Their hot tub was equally well-maintained and clean, and I was able to enjoy it under the starlit sky and in the morning sunshine. This is a place that will be equally comfortable in both sunny and rainy weather. While internet access is available, I asked ahead of time if it would be possible for me to be completely "off the grid" and still be able to plan day trips during my stay. Signy was fantastic with providing me personal guidance on the best places to go and was willing to provide additional resources that may not have already been in the apartment. One night, I even came home to find fresh lettuce and snow peas from their garden waiting for me a my door. The home is located within close proximity of several entrance points of the San Juan de Fuca Marine Trail. Each stretch of the trail is different so there are plenty of opportunities to experience different parts of it on day hikes over a few days. I highly recommend Vista View to anyone seeking some peaceful solitude from the pace of our normally busy lives.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed a week and wished we could have stayed longer. The description was very accurate. Everything was immaculately clean. There was enough "decoration" to make it feel homey but not so much that you needed to tip-toe around so as not to break anything. The furniture and appliances were of good quality. EVERYTHING was provided even to sugar and flour inthe kitchen. We have stayed at many rental houses in the US and Europe and always find ourselves thinking why didn't they do this or that. But we couldn't find anything wrong with Signy and Doug's place. Some things to try. We loved Port Renfrew with it's tidal pools and the Village Cafe. Be warned that the road is very windy and hilly. We saw a bear by the side of the road. And East Sooke Park is wonderful. We only got one afternoon there and wished for more. The Smokin' Tuna restaurant had very good food and they were willing to split a dinner for us. We saw seals and a river otter and bald eagles while we were sitting there. The grocery stores in Sooke are fine but we never got to one of the local bakeries. If you like better bread than what you can buy in the grocery, Try Fol Epis near Spinnakers in Victoria. They have a wonderful selection. We very much enjoyed meeting Signy and Doug. They tried very hard to make us feel at home even to the point of searching out a big teapot and a tea cozy for us. The gardens are wonderful as are the wild flowers. Altogether a terrific place to visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed in VRBO properties around the world and found that the Vista View Suite is one of the best. It is very clean and nicely furnished including a new washer and dryer. The full kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of dishes, silverware, utensils, coffee maker, tea kettle, toaster, etc. Salt, pepper, other spices, sugar, and flour were also available as well as paper and cleaning products. The best part is the view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains in Washington State with a lovely and colorful flower garden in between. Even the local deer think it is a great place to visit and nibble throughout the landscape! As for Sooke, it is a lovely little town with a nice museum, parks, walking trails, the Village Food Market, and several great area restaurants. The market is well-stocked and has individual portions of fresh salmon, boneless skinless chicken breasts, boneless pork chops, etc., which we purchased and grilled on the Ducane gas BBQ on our private patio. Markus’ Wharfside Restaurant is chef-owned, has a nice view of the bay, and has excellent food and service. (We ate there twice during our weeks’ stay which is unusual for us.) The Sooke Harbor House has a lovely view, beautiful grounds and very good food and service, but their wines are overpriced. About 20 minutes west of Sooke is Point No Point Restaurant in Shirley. It, too, has a great view of the water (if it is not foggy) and very good food. The Stone Pipe Grill in Sooke and the 17 Mile Pub on the road to Sooke are both nice places for lunch. Much of the information about the restaurants, activiites, etc. is available in a binder and brochures in the suite as well as talking to the very knowledgeable owners. They are very gracious and provided excellent directions to Vista View. We would definitely rent the suite again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed here for a week in June 2011. The suite is perfect for two people. As an earlier reviewer had commented, the suite is immaculately clean. This was a very important consideration for us, and the cleanliness of the suite exceeded our expectations. The suite also has every amenity you could possibly need. To our pleasant surprise, there is even a washer and dryer. This was particularly helpful given that our stay in Sooke is just the beginning of a rather long trip. The internet, dishwasher and BBQ were also great to have. We did a lot of cooking, and the kitchen was well-equipped. The view from the suite is spectacular. Although the photos on this website are nice, they can't possibly capture the full beauty of the view and the garden. The owners went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. They are genuinely friendly, generous and hospitable people. They keep a detailed informational binder in the suite, which contains all the information you would want regarding the surrounding area and available activities. The owners also made themselves available to answer any questions we had. We are grateful we didn't spend money on a tour book, as that would have been unnecessary. My husband and I highly recommend this property to others. As for nearby activities, attractions, and restaurants, we recommend West Coast Outdoor Rentals in Sooke for bike rentals, and we recommend doing a bike ride on the Galloping Goose Trail. We recommend walks or jogs at Whiffen Spit. We recommend Orca Spirit Adventures in Victoria for a public marine life Zodiac boat tour. We recommend West Coast Wild Seafoods in Sooke for locally-caught albacore tuna and BC wild spot prawns, to be cooked at home. We highly recommend the on-farm market at Ragley Farm, East Sooke on Saturdays. The two soups we ate at Ragley Farm were the best we've ever had anywhere. We recommend a visit to Botanical Beach in Port Renfrew, when the tides are low, and lunch at the Coastal Kitchen Cafe while there. The Edge Restaurant and Point No Point Restaurant in Sooke had decent food, but we found that we much preferred to buy local seafood and produce and cook or BBQ it in the lovely Vista View suite.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a comfortable suite! Great furniture, a pleasure to use as well as attractive. A "homey" feeling yet still chic. We loved the visiting deer, although they weren't quite so cute when they started chomping away on your lupines! Good luck finding all the plants that they don't want to eat - the garden is already interesting, and will be more so as it matures. A lovely stay (despite continually overcast skies and fog).Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We chose Vista View mainly because of location. Our planned activities were to take advantage of all the great day hike opportunities close by. We were very happy with this hilltop spot. Very attractive and private, with deer coming for evening visits to drink out of the fountain on the patio. This is a new house and Vista View is a lower level accommodation with lots of big windows and your own private patio and outdoor grill. If you come to hike sections of the Juan de Fuca or the provincial beach parks, don't miss what turned out to be our favorite - East Sooke Regional Park. Owners were friendly and helpful.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank-you Mike and Peggy - we hope to see you again sometime! Signy and Doug

You have a very special spot here on the island - our "home away from home". Five days has gone so quickly. We feel like we have just begun to explore all the treasures the island holds. All the guidance and support is greatly appreciated. We hope to see you again in San Diego. Cheers to B.C. P.S. The hot tub saved us after the West Coast Pacific Rim Trail!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My stay at Vista View exceeded my expectations. I book frequently with VRBO and Homeaway. It is uncommon to be able to book less than a week at a time. This is very beneficial and gives travellers more options. Thanks for the stay!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
