We are two couples who travel frequently together to bird in different locations. This home is a wonderful base for exploring all sorts of places around Grays Harbor for the migrating spring birds. We lucked out on the weather except for one day when it poured, but we went to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, a really great place! The shorebird festival is small, but well organized. This home is great for cooking and the supplies work on the "Law of the West", if you use something up replace it for the next visitors. The home is warm and cozy on those damp days, solidly built, clean and very user friendly with wifi. I would highly recommend a stay in this home with "nothing" around it, not on the main drag and even great yard birds. Kellie is wonderful to work with and this home is a real treat.

This was just what the doctor ordered. The house was extremely clean and comfortable, and well stocked. The photos really don't tell the whole story of how great this place is. The deer and birds are everywhere. In fact, most of the time, the only sounds we heard were of the birds and the ocean in the distance. We're looking forward to coming back!

We recently stayed at the Salt Grass Cottage to celebrate my mother-in-laws 60th birthday. It was WONDERFUL! Great open floor plan for cooking, playing games and relaxing. All three beds were super comfortable. The views are nice (grassy open area), but you can't see the water. It's a short stroll to the beach. If you're looking for a quick get-a-way (only 2.5 to 3 hours from Seattle) I highly recommend this rental!!

We just spent 4 nights 5 days here with our 3 boys (Age 13 and 5 Yr old twins) and our much loved family dog. We couldn't of been happier with our stay, the cottage is beautiful and comfy and so relaxing. We enjoyed sleeping in and big breakfasts and dinners made in the kitchen. The 3 boys and our dog walked and explored the refuge behind behind the house, we all walked to Little Beach to play. We also enjoyed the Family Fun Center in town for gokarts and bumper cars, the little toy store, driving on the big beach and exploring the beach near the Jetty and shopping at the book store. Deer came to visit the property daily and even though every day we were there it sprinkled off and on we still had fun. Perfect beach weather according to my not-so-sun-loving husband. And if the weather is questionable the Ace Hardware in town is the perfect place to go pick up rubber boots and rain coats as we did. We hope to go back, it was the perfect size for our family. The cottage is even nicer and more inviting then in the pictures, the home is clean and decorated nicely, Kellie was very friendly and helpful and we will recommend this vacation home to all of our friends and family.

We were having the tile taken up in the lower level of our home, and decided to run away to the beach for a couple of days to escape the noise and dust. We looked on the VRBO site and luckily come upon the perfect beach get away cottage. Everything was exactly as pictured...better actually, and dealing with Kellie was a pleasure. The cottage is cozy and comfortable, and was a welcome respite from the gale force winds, and torrential downpour we experienced in the bitter month of January. We enjoyed reading about the history of the home ,and about the loving hands that built it. Also, enjoyed reading all the journal entries of the many who have been in and out it's doors. As I wrote in the journal, it is almost if the walls really could talk. We are making return plans for the summer. Thank you for sharing your gift!

What a WONDERFUL place on the beach!! We were so pleased with the cottage, and the location was perfect. We took a long walk on the beach with the dogs and truly enjoyed just relaxing and hanging out. We had breakfast and coffee one morning at Cafe Amici where there was delicious food and great, friendly service. When we arrived, the cottage was clean, warmed up for us and we felt at home right away. There were plenty of things to keep us busy and the kitchen was very well stocked with supplies and utensils (i.e. se weren't searching around for a can opener or extra forks), which was nice. The beds and linens were very comfortable and cozy, the place was beautifully decorated, and there were plenty of games and magazines around for us to enjoy. Kellie was extremely easy to work with and very quick to respond to emails. She is very personable and we felt like she and her family were truly "welcoming" us to their cottage. Thank you again for your hospitality, for not charging crazy fees for silly things, and for making your family home a place we could enjoy as well! I would definitely recommend Salt Grass Cottage to friends and family.

Loved!!! My husband and I spent our anniversary weekend with 2 other couples here. Perfect place to rest, relax and enjoy nature. Tons of deer, birds, and the private trail to the beach was a treat. Got to shake off stresses of everyday and just kick back, hang with friends and soak in the quiet beauty of the ocean this time of year. The kitchen is truly stocked, whatever you need is there. Even though it was sunny for us, the temp was down around 30-45 degrees. We stayed perfectly toasty though using only the wood stove, no electric heat needed. The beds are super comfy, everyone commented on how great they slept. Started planning our next visit before we started packing up to leave. Thanks so much!!

The title describes the trip and this house. My family is flung to the far corners of the earth and we came together to take my Grami -about to turn 90- back to the shore after an absence of over 20 years. We walked the beaches together and marveled that our only company was the deer and birds. The cottage really spoke to us all and everyone soon began referring to it as " home." The fabulous beds allowed my husband and I to nurse our jet lag from Japan, while my Grammi and Dad and stepmom fed deer and bird watched which they all do back home too! It was really nice. While we lucked out with many sunny days, when it rained, the natural light from the windows was really amazing. And the kitchen...Well it's capabilities we're such that I was able to bake and my husband made some fabulous fried oysters and crab legs from Lytles. Thanks for that tip Kellie! My little tiny Grami threw down at that feast! :-). We even made it up to Lake Quinault and walked in the rainforest amongst the giants as a tribute to my grandfather. We know he would have loved this place to rest your head and the beautiful location as well. We are already talking of a return trip. Thanks to Kellie for all the e-mail traffic...Customer service with a personal touch such that my Grami talks of her as if she knows her. Truly a serendipitous trip.

I cannot say enough good about the time we had here! This place was so comfortable --the beds were to die for, well stocked kitchen, atmosphere (candles, etc.). We all loved everything about the house-how it had been built with love over time and it showed. Especially great was the communication during the rental process. My grandaughter did not want to leave and I told her we would come back --she wants next week!

There was a goup of 6 of us girls that stayed in the cottage for my birthday weekend girls getaway. This was the perfect place to stay! The fire stove was amazing during a wild ocean storm. The home is beautiful, the area was beautiful, and you can't beat waking up to sunshine, a rainbow, and a mama and baby deer right outside the back deck. The bedding was super soft and cozy, so much so that you didnt want to get out of bed! lol We will definitely remember the cottage and we're already thinking of a stay next year! Thank you to the family!!!!! We stayed during Nov. 2010.

A three-day weekend at Salt Grass Cottage was just what the doctor ordered for my 57th birthday! My friends and I all loved the house, the path to the beach, the decks, the deer! The house is furnished in such a comfortable, yet modern, easy to care for style. I felt at home immediately, especially in the kitchen! My friends and I are avid cooks and we were in there most of the weekend, and there really wasn't anything that wasn't provided for us, as far as supplies go. You are lucky to own such a treasure. Even though we had 75 mph winds and rain on Saturday night, we were all safe and secure and snuggly warm with the great wood stove. Thank you Kellie and Carlos for sharing your wonderful home.

This is exactly what a vacation rental should be. The location is excellent -- walking distance to a beach, short drive or longer walk to the main beach, quiet with an unbelievable number of deer passing through the property each day. The cottage was in great shape and really nicely furnished -- you felt like you were staying in a home, rather than a hotel or an IKEA showroom. The kitchen was well-stocked and easy to use, very important since most Ocean Shores restaurants are, well, lacking. Most important for us, though, is that it is pet friendly. Our dog had a blast running on the beach, splashing in the water, and barking at all the deer. Highly recommended if you're going to Ocean Shores.

Remember the bit of conversation in The Velveteen Rabbit when one of the characters asks what it means to be ‘real’? He was told that it was “ a thing that happens ... when a (person)... loves you for a long, long time”. Salt Grass Cottage is about as real as a house can get, infused as it is with the accumulated good vibes of the people who built it and of those who maintain it. When ‘the fam’ go on short holidays together, we tend to draw inward, weave our ties closer ,and do home-things: cook together, go for walks, sit under the stars on a deck with children nodding in our arms - you know the sort of thing. Salt Grass Cottage let us do all these and more. And more.Thank you for sharing it with us.

Salt Grass Cottage was the best Vacation spot we have ever stayed in , We started out with vacation plans with best friends and ended up watching them get married on the beach, the cottage is so calming and puts off such a warm and welcome feeling that we didn't want to leave, the bear and all the deer were a treat, and star gazing at night made it hard to go inside and sleep. We will return ...again and again.

Our family had a WONDERFUL stay at Salt Grass Cottage! It is a charming and comfortable get away. The short walk to the beach was fun for our kids and pup as well. It is nice to find a vacation rental that accepts dogs with open arms, and even sets out a dog dish for your pup! The owners take such pride in their cottage and you can really feel the love that has been shared there for many years. This cottage is unique and stylish, yet still has a handmade flair that is very much like the homes many of us grew up in, thus very welcoming. We will be back for sure!

I was looking for a place to celebrate my 10th Wedding anniversary, and I could not have found a better place that this amazing hidden treasure. The Salt grass Cottage was the perfect place for my wife and kids to celebrate, not just our anniversary, but my return from Iraq. The peacefulness, exquisite views, the easy access to the “secrete beach” was all we needed to unwind and celebrate life. But that was not all we found in this little paradise, we spend hours walking on the sand collecting shells or just taking the ocean air. We experienced nature with every walking-trip to the beach. In the evenings we would seat by the fire with a nice cup of wine and enjoy every second together. My 14 year old daughter (like any other teenager) didn’t think this place was for her, until she saw it. She fell in love with it as we all did. My wife and I have found our special place and can’t wait to go back, we really did not want to come back. This place is a life refreshing spot. Kellie and Carlos took care of us, they truly care about their guests. PS. Everyone writes about the Salt Grass Cottage bedding, well you must experience it to understand why!

We had a wonderful vacation at Salt Grass Cottage! We only had a weekend, but really loved the location, charm & wildlife. A family event in Hoquiam brought us (3 couples) and we're sure glad we found this place- a black-headed towhee kept us entertained as he sparred with his image in a window on the deck. The deer strolled by twice a day, the paths through the salt grass brought us to uncrowded beaches. Kellie was very helpful in helping us make arrangements- it felt like we were staying at a friend's house. Very quiet and peaceful. Scrumptious bed linens made for a lovely night's sleep. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Salt Grass Cottage.

This was our first stay at Salt Grass Cottage and it won't be our last! We were very pleased with how well the floor plan fit our family! Our older children enjoyed occupying the upstairs bedrooms/bathroom, while my husband and I had the master downstairs. We all commented on how comfortable the bedding and mattresses were. Our two dogs found the easy trail to the beach an adventure! The Little Beach is peaceful and private - a great place for the dogs to run and play! Your cottage was just the perfect spot for us to sit by the fire, play games, relax on the beach and have fun!

Salt Grass Cottage is an oasis of peace!! I have two small children who are not fans of hotel rooms but at Salt Grass, they felt right at home, even bedtime was a breeze. We saw deer daily (My 4 yr old loved putting the deer food out every day), we also saw 2 hawks flying only feet from the gorgeous view from the dining table. But there is an amazing view from every window; the beach view from the upstairs window is my favorite. The hike to the peaceful beach was invigorating and regenerating. Our gracious hosts made us feel like family friends and I would recommend this loving cottage to anyone and everyone!! Thanks again Kellie for everything!!

Salt Grass Cottage - (much roomier than it's name implies!) made for a great weekend for us. We enjoyed reading it's history, and could tell it was crafted by loving, skilled hands. The setting worked especially well for us; I prefer Puget Sound type beaches (which Little Beach is) while my husband is partial to the ocean beaches-- Where else but here could we have both?! WE found Salt Grass cottage to be modest on the outside, but luxurious inside. The kitchen was comfortable and well appointed, the living room and dining room looked out picture windows to the wildlife reserve, but the wildlife seemed to congregate in the backyard: a whole herd of deer greeted us in the mornings. This is a great spot for people who like birding as it is close to many kinds of habitat. It was also nice that we could bring our dog with easy access to the outdoors, unlike most condos.

Five Deer joined us right outside the window and even patiently posed for pictures. Sure beats seeing your neighbor run out to retrieve his morning paper in his P.J's.Thankyou for sharing the history of this quaint and cozy little cottage...made our stay even more special!!! Wow! grandkids from Albuquerque, who have never seen the ocean; grandkids who are living through divorce and death. And we all came together and enjoyed our time together. What did we do? we talked about life and future families. we played dominoes and monopoly; we cooked and ate together. We watched a movie together. We walked to the beach together. We watched deer peek at us around the garage. We sang with the birds nesting around the cottage. We ate a huge watermelon together. We took lots of pictures. We roasted marshmallows. We looked up at the stars at night and named them. We slept, finally, with windows open and ocean breezes blowing....heaven must be like this! As the "adult in charge" AKA grandma, my dream of having 6 of my 16 grandchildren in one place at the same time came true. Cousins connected, bonded, shared, and tattle-taled on each other. How much more perfect can life get? I was brought to tears with the preciousness of family. thank you Salt Grass Cottage, for working your magic!! PS - the price was so affordable for this "retired" grandma. The kids had no idea, but none of this could have happened at an expensive resort or other high priced facility. so I appreciated the affordability which made it all possible.

We just got back from a 3 night stay at the Salt Grass Cottage. A wonderful time was had by all!!! We had my parents, sister and her new husband and our family, which includes us and our 20 month old daughter. As well as our 4 legged friends. The house was perfect for us and the layout worked really well. We enjoyed watching the deer come by feeding, watching the hawks and one afternoon, a bald eagle. We enjoyed our bottle of wine one night with pizza from town, yummy!!! Planning another trip for summer, when the weather might be warmer. Our daughter's 1st experience with the ocean was so fun, she didn't want to leave the beach and would cry the whole way back to beach house. Thanks for the great getaway location!!!

I sat bewildered as a white Falcon hunted in the morning, effortlessly gliding over the brushes, bushes and salt grass and diving for his/her breakfast meal. Later looking at a four point buck with two does on his heels. Hearing the crackling of the wood burning in the stove. A relaxing glass of wine in the late evening by the fire. We can't wait to come back. The simple and gentle elagance of the Salt Grass Cottege is still with us.

Wow...what a peaceful and relaxing get-away! While I have stayed in fancier vacation homes the 'Salt Box Cottage' was delightful...and the perfect setting to enjoy a few days away from the city. We loved the amazingly short walk over to 'little' beach(which was like a private oasis) to watch the sunset and finished up the evening with dinner and wine...and much needed sleep. Its so quiet and tranquil...I can't wait to return.
