I felt the listing description was accurate except for the close proximity of the main house. There is a nice sized deck on the other side of the cottage if you wish privacy. We had another couple stay with us a night and found the size of the cottage was comfortable for 4 people. The kitchen was well equipped. The lake is very busy during the peak hours, but very peaceful during the "curfew" hours after 6 pm. The cottage has lots of natural light, and we had a beautiful breeze blowing through the cottage, all hours, the weekend we stayed. Barb was very easy to get a hold of if you have questions or concerns. There are numerous golf courses in the area which Barb is very familiar with, if you have any questions. The only concern I had, was the window privacy issue in the bedroom.

Just What We Needed After a Stressful Week
Just What We Needed After a Stressful Week
Just a short 3 hour drive north of Kenosha, we pulled up to the cutest little cabin. Very clean, looked like it was recently remodeled with nice carpeting and ceramic tile. It was so neat how you can sit and eat at the kithen table and be right on the lake, being that it is 4 feet from the lake. Panfish delite. My son and I took the paddle boat out to fish every morning and late day. It looked like the blue gills were begging from us. We didn't even need a bait, you would drop your hook and pull out a fish. That was awesome. I made a pie from the apples I picked from the tree behind the cabin. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pans and dishes to cook any meal you want. If you don't feel like cooking, I recommend the rib/pizza joint, a short drive into town. A beautiful walk to the famous Hennings Cheese Factory is a must. Wow what great cheese to sample and an opportunity to see how cheese is made. From 11 to 6 pm the lake becomes a skiers delite. Next time we are bringing our jet skis. The lake is only 90 acres and the deepest is 21 feet. Perfect for family enjoyment and quite comfortable for swimming. Barb, the owner, was always available to answer questions. When you opened the windows, you had a nice breeze through the house. There is a good ac in the bedroom that worked very well, but we didn't really need it. We never ran out of hot water and the water pressure was very good. We had 4 adults and I don't know how we didn't run out of hot water, but we never did. There is a nice selection of videos that we enjoyed each evening after the bonfire. There are two charcoal grills and a tripod to put over the fire to cook a wonderful barbeque dinner. Plenty of outside deck seating. The second bedroom is a loft, which is accessed from a pull out stair, that is totally secure and safe, unlike what the last review stated. Our 2 adult friends slept comfortably on the matress set up there. We are already trying to figure out when we can come again. For the price, it is such a great deal. So much more than you would ever get at a similarly priced hotel. Just a lovely time that I keep talking to everyone about.

Very small and very hot!
Very small and very hot!
I arrived on a very hot day in Wisconsin. The cabin was closed up and very hot! It was a lot smaller than advertised. The base of the cabin is (per the owner) 20 X 22. That is 440 sq feet, not the 775 advertised. There is a loft area upstairs that can be reached by flimsy fold up stairs that are clearly marked "for storage only", making the area seem unsafe to have people sleep. In addition it was 100+ degrees up there so would not be a possible sleeping area. I planned to have a few guests one night, and there was no place to put them. As others have mentioned, the cottage is very close to the main building, and needs real curtains on the windows. There are sheers on some, and 1/2 café style in the bedroom. I did not stay as it was not a workable situation for my trip, and my deposit was not refunded in spite of the owner agreeing that it was not as advertised.

Owner response: First of all the cottage is 22 x 25 which is 550 sq ft with the upper loft being 200 sq ft for a total of 750 sq ft. On the contract you indicated you were one person with three dogs, if you are going to have more people you should indicated that on the contract and I could have went into more detail about the cottage. I approved your dogs because you were one person and I also was going to let you stay an extra day because you emailed me saying you had to work and couldn't get to the lake until Tuesday. The main level sleeps four people comfortably using the main bedroom and the futon in the living room. Properties on lakes are very close together, we have over 400' of frontage with two cottages, most of the cottages on the lake have only 100' maximum frontage therefore there is more than enough privacy. I have not had a complaint about the A/C it works great per the review before you. You rented the cottage over Labor day wkend, a holiday which is very much in demand. I have taken more pictures of the property so others can see that there is not a cottage right next door.
We just got back home a few days ago and are already trying to figure out when we can return. The pictures do not do justice to the beautiful surroundings nor do they capture the coziness of the cottage. There is a celing fan in the living room plus two portable fans in addition to a very effective window unit air conditioner in the bedroom...which we only had to turn on one night. Mosquitos come out during the evening, but the owner provides effective mosqito deterrents. If you're looking for peace, solitude, fun on the water in either a canoe or paddle boat -- and also 30 minutes away from Kettle Morraine State Forest and other attractions, this is the place! There's also plenty of patio furniture and a hammock between two beautiful trees -- with a view of the lake -- which my wife retreated to every day. Loved it!

Last weekend in August
Last weekend in August
The description on the website is accurate. The owners had a big party on Saturday night (with a live band) but they had disclosed that before we reserved so no problem... in fact, we enjoyed listening to the music. The cabin was clean. We would strongly encourage the owners to consider a new mattress as the one there is way past it's prime. Also, the frig doesn't get very cold. With all that said, we really enjoyed being so close to the water and we were very happy that we could bring our little dog. The water outside the cottage is not swimable (very weedy and mucky), but there is a paddle boat and canoe for use to explore the lake. The owners let us check out late on Sunday since the next renter wasn't arriving until Monday so that was nice. One thing that the pictures doesn't show is how close you are to the main home where the renters live. It' a good or bad thing, just be aware and also know that the windows just have sheer curtains. Thanks Barb and Jim!

Owner response: Thank you for your review, the mattress is only three seasons old so I would not have known it was worn. There is a temp gauge in the frig. and when I checked it, it was in the correct range, I had just defrosted it so that might be to blame. I also took additional outside pictures of the cottage so people can get a better feel for the area. Hope you can come back and stay with us
The location was wonderful. So peaceful, and relaxing. The property was very nice, lake was very nice, and the Lake house was very clean and comfortable. This rental met and exceeded all of our expectations. The owners were very helpful no matter what the questions. They took us for a ride in their pontoon boat. Enjoyable experience. As we relaxed one evening on the dock, another family in a pontoon boat pulled over and took us for a nice quiet ride and we got to know them also. ALL the folks we met were so nice. We were invited to a End of the Summer Party. Great Party. I would not hesitate one minute to recommend this property to friend, relative or anyone else for that matter. A good time was had by all!

For the couple looking for a relaxing change of pace without traveling to remote areas, this cottage is ideal. Clean, comfortable, nice amenities going beyond the usual standards in a quaint setting. We dropped a fishing line, hooked northern, bass and plenty of panfish without leaving the dock. In fact we played cards in the cottage while fishing and were just 10ft from our poles. Not your trophy fishing lake, but certainly productive enough to keep the children captivated. The owners went out of their way to make certain we were comfortable and yet gave us space and everything on the property was very up-to-date.

This was our 3rd year staying here. We come at this time to celebrate birthdays in September. This year my son's bday actually fell on friday the 16th. It's become a tradition, and we were as pleased with our stay this time, as we were 2 times before. I really enjoyed the new bed downstairs; and my grandson, and son, the one upstairs (it was a trading off kind of thing). My son, and grandson, were out on the lake most of the time, either in the paddleboat, or the canoe. My granddaughters (4-2) were in the paddleboat as well, when they could get it away from the older kids (hehehe). We intended to use the firepit but it was a bit too chilly...so we played cards inside instead. it's a beautiful little place, right on the water, and had GREAT photo ops of sunrises!! I noticed there was some new landscaping changes this year too!! very nice. if you are one who enjoys the natural world, and a peaceful place to gather with comfortable amenities this is the place for you. we'll be coming back next year i am sure.

We had a good time staying here but there is no air conditioning, just fans. It was fine for us because we had a very cold week in September and only one hot day. The cottage is very close to the main house. There are about 5 channels that come in on the TV and not always consistently so if you have to be around for nap times like we did bring a good book or DVDs (although it didn't work when we were there). The cottage overall is very clean but needs a little TLC and could use some curtains in the bedroom that actually cover the window for privacy. Bring your own pillows unless you like flat pancake ones. The beach is 10 minutes away and very nice. We mainly went to the Sheboygan area since there isn't much to do in Kiel with a 2 yr old and dog. I would recommend going to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum if you have little kids. The water play area was fun for all of us and we were in there for almost 2 hours. Plus the submarine tour guide was very nice and patient with our 2 yr old.

me and my husband really enjoyed the cottage on the lake. he loves fishing so having the lake right outside the house really worked for him. there are are lot of things to do. boating, fishing, paddleboating, overall a lot of water activities. there are quite a few lakes within half an hour drive too. i personally loved the beach, only 10 mins away! also, grilling, a fire pit, etc. a lot of fun things to do. the only thing i didnt really like were the little flies and mosquitos, but that's nature!
