36 Beach - A luxury studio apartment … with a Boutique Hotel Feel.
On a quiet walk street in the bustling beach community of Venice, California, “36 Beach” is a unique vacation stay - a luxury boutique studio apartment, with a chic hotel feel.
Tucked away on the garden level of a tri-level residential building, “36 Beach” is a private oasis for a romantic get-away, a family holiday, or a business traveler who wants more than a hotel.
The décor is reminiscent of classic beach cottages of the 1930’s. French doors open to a classical walled garden and patio to enjoy cocktails or dinner on warm summer evenings.
“36 Beach” has a king-size bed with sumptuous down duvets and fine Italian linens. A convertible sofa bed with a fluffy down duvet can accommodate two other guests.
36 Beach is also wired. For your entertainment, WiFi is accessible, a 32 inch HD flat screen provides a full cable menu and an iPod dock connects to high quality speakers. The complete kitchen is ready for your own culinary creations or those of a private chef, with range, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator with ice maker. A recently remodeled bathroom with shower and plush robes, and a washer and dryer inside the unit complete the amenities.
And, oh yes, if you choose to venture outside, the warm sand and cool pacific surf are just a 36 second stroll away.
Your Hostess is a television personality who has traveled extensively and experienced the pleasures of the world’s finest hotels. The proprietor of the residential building of “36 Beach' is also a trained professional chef, happy to design a bed & breakfast package or private gourmet dinner for your special occasion.
A longtime Venice resident, she can introduce you to Venice and beyond, with restaurant suggestions, or by arranging in-room massage therapy, or even booking a private music performance in your garden. Let her make your next wedding anniversary or special birthday an unforgettable experience.

We were totally impressed with every feature of this beautiful spot. The bottle of red wine was a pleasant surprise. It was a nice way to start our long weekend stay. The space is great and the outdoor garden so private. It is well equipped and the linens are of superior quality. The bed is Luxurious!!! Many thanks for the wonderful accommodations. Great location and quiet. We hope to go back on our next visit.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We planned our take-the-edge-off-a-Canadian-winter trip to the Los Angeles area with a few things in mind. We wanted to be close to the ocean. We didn’t want to be holed up in a resort, but wanted to experience the city. We didn’t want to drive. Venice Beach, and Wendy Walsh’s studio apartment, fit all our requirements. The apartment is located moments away from the ocean, and a few blocks south of the lively stretch of Venice Beach centred around Windward Ave. A few steps from the flat, and you’re on Washington Boulevard with a full selection of restaurants, bars, cafés and a grocery store with all the basics. A few minutes, and you’re strolling along the peaceful Venice canals. A little bit further, and you’re on Abbott Kinney Boulevard, lined with funky shops and excellent restaurants. (You might want to book ahead at Gjelina’s. We’ll have to wait until next time.) Two cruiser bikes in Wendy’s garage get you onto a wonderful paved cycling path along the beach, north to Santa Monica, and south through Marina del Ray, and beyond. Public transit is also readily accessible. We hopped the Santa Monica Blue Bus one day and got ourselves to the Getty Villa in Malibu. The studio itself is as spacious and well-appointed as the listing and other reviewers attest. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a welcoming bottle of red wine and a full-size teapot (Thank you, Wendy!), and the bathroom was stocked with loads of fresh towels and guest toiletries. In early March, the weather was still a little cool to take full advantage of the garden, but we kept the French doors open and enjoyed the greenery that way. Dealing with Wendy was a pleasure, from start to finish. If you’re looking for stillness and solitude, Venice Beach may not be what you’re looking for. The flat is private, but you’re always aware that you’re living in the city – surrounded by the sounds of fire engines, neighbours, workmen, and muscle cars. That being said, we slept well at Wendy’s studio and set off into the day full of energy and ready for the boisterous parade that is Venice Beach.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We spent 3 weeks here and loved every minute of it. This LARGE studio was great. The king size bed was fabulous, comfortable with wonderful bedding. The kitchen is full-size and well equipped for cooking meals. The shower was spacious and with good water pressure. The whole unit was very clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. There is a very big closet for clothes and storage. Loved having the beach towels, beach chairs and umbrella available - all of really nice quality. Also really appreciated having the bikes available; we took an 18 mile ride along the beach on a gorgeous sunny day. The location could not be better. Sunsets every night over the ocean. Great walks around the Balona Lagoon and Venice canals. Fabulous restaurants within walking distance...ate in 3 vegan restaurants within close driving range. The owner was extremely responsive to questions. We were lucky enough to meet her and she is wonderfully friendly and warm. We plan to return next year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My husband and I recently stayed in this lovely apartment and I must tell all of you considering a stay here you will not be disappointed. It's beautiful, quiet, close to many fine restaurants, deli's, and is just steps to the beach. The bed is super comfortable and there is a lovely garden just outside your door to enjoy your morning coffee or relax with a book in the afternoon. There is a fully stocked kitchen to enjoy should you desire to whip up your own meals. Wendy was very courteous and professional and always answered questions promptly. Like many of the other reviews, if you are renting a car you may want to consider renting a smaller one as the parking space is small, but I must say we had a Cadillac SUV and we managed! If you are going to be in the Venice area, this is a wonderful place to stay. I will definitely be staying here again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

This place is a gem, an absolute find. It was perfect for the two of us for our short four-day stay, but would be ideal for a longer stay as well. Much more spacious than your average hotel room, with a large, well-stocked kitchen and a lovely, private outdoor sitting area. And the bed was divine! On the "quiet" end of Venice Beach (if there is such a thing), bordering on Marina del Rey, it is close to everything, yet remarkably calm and peaceful, tucked away on a quiet "walk" street. Although it is helpful to have a car in Los Angeles, you don't necessarily need one here if you'r'e planning to stick "close to home" and down by the beach. Everything you need is within walking distance. The beach is literally a one minute walk, the Starbucks and a local coffee house are just around the corner, and the Whole Foods is only 5 min drive. So convenient! One note on parking: It's fabulous that the unit has its own reserved parking spot directly adjacent to the building. Parking in the area can be a real challenge, so this is a big plus. However, be forewarned it's a tight squeeze - we had a large-ish SUV, and I'm not sure anything larger would fit. So, rent a Prius! Wendy was the perfect hostess -- flexible and accommodating, responsive, available if we needed her, but respectful of our privacy.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My wife and I stayed for just over a week while waiting for our daughter to deliver her second child nearby in Del Rey. This roomy bachelor basement suite was very comfortable and clean, with nicely done decorating and finishes, and an especially comfy bed. The kitchen is up-to-date and we enjoyed preparing meals to take over to our daughter's place. The location is very close to the "quiet" end of Venice Beach but close to some great walks and eateries hence great meals and good sleeps. Wendy was a very helpful and gracious owner. We would definitely stay again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed in this apartment with our 18 yr old daughter over the July 4th holiday and had a wonderful time. The apartment is larger than it looks in the photos and it is within walking distance to everything: the beach, restaurants and the boardwalk. We also enjoyed the apartment's relaxing outdoor space and couldn't of asked for more. Wendy is an amazing host - Thank you for a wonderful stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

I stayed here for 2 months when I first moved to LA, introduced to the property through a mutual friend with Wendy (the landlord) who couldn't stop raving about the place. And was she ever right! The apartment is larger than it looks in the pictures, the kitchen is fully stocked, everything is beautifully decorated...all this and literally a block to the most gorgeous beach! The location is convenient to everything. Wendy is great, there when you need her for anything (either with the apartment or advice on the area), and she has a keen eye for detail. Truly a home away from home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

It was only a block away to get to really nice restaurants and Hernanos the pub which been there since the beginning. About the owner: Hello - I'm a Canadian who fell in love with Los Angeles twenty years ago. I work in television and have traveled extensively and experienced the pleasures of the world’s finest hotels. My most common guests are Canucks, Brits, Swedes and Kiwi's (although everyone is welcome!) And they are often adults visiting adult children who are studying or working in LA. The excitement of a new grand-baby is another reason many of my guests have come to LA! I'm a longtime Venice resident, and can act as your concierge, recommending restaurants and entertainment and answering any questions you may have. I'd love to host you!
Why the Owner Chose Venice Beach:
Venice Beach represents total freedom to me. In Venice you are free to be creative, free to be fashionable, free to be sloppy. It is the only public beach owned by the city of Los Angeles and it's 9 million inhabitants. The famous Venice boardwalk is just a short stroll away where street performers and street merchants blend with surfers and body builders. The best thing about my garden studio apartment is it's proximity to the eclectic, hectic, diverse Venice boardwalk and beach bike path --- and its distance from it. The studio is a private refuge, a shady garden on a lush walk street. Just close enough, but not in the center of the 24 hour fray. It's the best of both worlds. Quiet privacy near the bustle.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
My guests have told me they love my plush 'heavenly' bed. I enjoy a good luxurious sleep and the kingsize bed with it's feather bed, down duvet and fine linens is a real treat for the senses. Also, they really appreciate having a small washer and dryer in the unit. It helps with the wet beach clothes. And, the full kitchen makes this far more than a hotel --- and a money saver. No need to pay for a premium breakfast when the 'fixins' are nearby. Finally, the small garden patio is a lovely place to sit and relax. I've seen guests spend time with their laptops out there or enjoy a sunset martini. Hey, let me know what you like to drink and I'll do my best to have it waiting for you.
