Kahana Reef is a low rise condo/resort comprised of 3 direct oceanfront, low rise, 4 story buildings with a total of 88 units. It is located away from crowds and high rise hotels in a unique private area of peace and tranquility. All condos at Kahana Reef are direct oceanfront and all have SPECTACULAR ocean and island views. They also have extremely quiet interiors due to the thick concrete block construction and that includes the extended block walls on the lanai for your added privacy...NO THIN SHEETROCK WALLS HERE! You will enjoy that added privacy as you sit on your lanai in the early morning sipping your Kona coffee and inhaling the aroma of the fresh ocean air mingled with the sweet scent of the plumeria blossoms as you watch the first rays of sun kiss the islands of Lanai and Molokai. Don't forget to look down in your 'front yard' and watch for the HONU ( sea turtles) poking their large heads above the water as they feed inside the reef and watch for the antics of the spinner dolphins and the whales in season (Nov-April). You may also have the entertainment of snorkelers, kayakers and surfers. What a show! For an added bonus you may see cruise ships decked out in thousands of sparkling lights passing close by your lanai.
Even though Kahana Reef is located in a quiet and tranquil area, it is just 5 minutes from Kapalua and the famous Kapalua and Napili Beaches, world class Plantation and Bay golf courses, Tennis Gardens and the elegant Ritz Carlton, zip lines, miles of hiking trails and many wonderful restaurants: Pineapple Grill, Sea House, Gazebo, Plantation House, Merriman's, Sansei Sushi, Honolua Store Deli and of course all the wonderful restaurants at the Ritz.
WANT TO DINE OUT, BUT DON'T WANT TO DRIVE? There are several restaurants within a 5 minute walk in Kahana Gateway. For casual and fun dining try Maui Brewing Co. one of the island's most popular dining locations and the island's only microbrewery...where else can you find coconut porter, for a great steak, RB Black Angus Steak House and there is even a McDonald's for the kiddies. Directly across the street is the China Boat, a wonderful Chinese restaurant, voted 'Best in Maui' several years in a row, we love to get 'take out' and eat on our lanai. Just a block to the South is Dollie's Pizza Pub and Sands of Kahana Restaurant with their very good $5.99 breakfast special from 7:30-8:30 and 1/2 price dinner special from 5:30-6:30!! You really do have an amazing view and you are so close to the water. We had lots of entertainment from the balcony - turtles, whales, boats, and surfers. The fourth floor is a definite plus - no one on top of you to make noise. Not that there was any noise it is pretty quiet. Just ignore the carpeted stairs and walkways. This really does date the place. You'll get used to it. They are always groundskeepersworking and they have some beautiful flowers including orchids so be sure you check that out. The unit is nice you just have to remember that this unit as most of them are is owned by real people who sometimes stay there so there is stuff in the closet and lots of accumulated stuff in the kitchen. I would say that the unit was not as clean as it should be and maybe the owner should talk to the cleaning staff they have working for them. There was not enough attention paid to the walls and corners of the baseboards. Looked like they had given up trying to keep this clean. What would have made this condo perfect is a new mattress. The one in the unit seems to be quite old and very firm and uncomfortable. Please get a new mattress sleeping well is so important on vacation. Appreciated the water and pineapple juice in the fridge. The water that come out of the tap really tastes bad so invest in bottled water while you are there. We would recommend this to others and would stay there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
