Incredible Visit!

Guest: Guests from Benson, NC (-)
Date of Stay: 12/08/11 Review Submitted: 12/14/11

Hi Candace and Jack: We had the most incredible visit to the mountains, from on top of the world! The photos shown on the vrbo.com site of your place barely touch just how truly spectacular. Thank you for the detailed directions!!!! It was an unexpected thrill just getting up to the house, especially for me, the Acrophobic. I "thought" we had seen about all the steep inclines in the mountains, from our car, truck, and the Harley, but this was the most scenic ever! The closest thrill I can remember is driving the motorcycle up and down Sugar Mountain near Boone. Those switchback are steep, but not nearly as long a run in between as Gateway presented. After about the second trip up/down I was shooting video out the truck window -- and it ONLY bothered me -- my three companions LOVE IT -- and they love ribbing me about my phobia! We would love to revisit Mountain Laurel Lookout again in the Spring, Summer or Fall, to take it all in again, with the scenery transformed, during a warmer season. It was pretty chilly, but we couldn't have asked for much better weather this time of year. It was sunny everyday, with no fog/clouds, or precipitation (of any kind!). The cold allowed for enjoying a "real" wood fire for a change, as we all have gas logs in our fireplaces at home. We experienced breathtaking sunrises, sunsets, and who could have planned it better -- than the moon coming to full during our stay. We also enjoyed the little holiday touches in the house which made this a nice Christmas celebration at our "home-away-from-home," as well as at the Biltmore Candlelight tour. We shopped Asheville and Black Mountain and almost finished our Christmas lists. We had a blast! We do so appreciate you for sharing your mountain retreat with us.

Perfect Location

My wife and I have been married for over 33 years. During those years we have travelled 3 to 4 times per year. With over 100 trips behind us I would have to say that this property was one of the best places we have stayed. It is far enough from town to feel secluded but close enough to go into the city for shopping and dining. The views from the deck have to be experienced. Pictures do not do the property justice. The wildlife in the area is abundant. On a clear night the stars are very impressive. I spent hours on the VRBO websites and feel I made the best choice for overall value and enjoyment.

There are no words to adequately describe this place…

If you’re like us, you’re going to spend hours scouring all of the properties available for your vacation to this area, possibly getting overwhelmed at what appears to be all of the great options. Having just returned from a week at this cabin, there is no doubt that we made the right choice. The cabin is perfect and equipped well with everything we needed. The game room in the basement was fantastic, and Jack and Candace are two of nicest people you’ll come across. Add to that what can only be described as a breathtaking view – one that seems to change by the minute, always getting better – and you have the perfect vacation spot and one that we refer to as ‘Heaven on Earth’. Reviews are always helpful, but the truth is there are no words to adequately describe this place. Michael and Heidi

Owner response:Thank you so much for taking the time to post this rave review! We love to know that you think it is as perfect as we think it is!

After searching through so many listings we settled on Jack and Candace's home. Im so glad that we chose it!! The views were amazing! The house had everything we needed, most importantly the space for 4 kids and 4 adults. When the kids were in the game room I barely heard them from the back deck, made my coffee and the sunset that much more enjoyable. We found the swing along the drive and that made for great fun and amazing pictures! While walking to the swing we noticed all the berry bushes and spent a while picking berries. Our (sometimes reluctant to leave the house) day trips to the French Broad Rafting Expeditions, Sliding Rock, Downtown Asheville, and Cedar Creek Stables packed more fun than we could imagine. I would highly recommend every last one of these!! Everywhere we went everyone was so friendly and helpful. It has by far been our best vacation yet! The memories (and amazing photos) will stay with us forever!

Owner response:We're so glad that you had a wonderful time! We just returned from spending the July 4th holiday there with family and friends. Since we're located at the top we had a great vantage point to see fireworks from Davistown and Marion on the 3rd, Lake Lure on the 4th and Black Mountain on the 5th! It was fabulous!

Candace and Jack, Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us this past weekend. We had an awesome time celebrating our anniversary. The view was amazing and your cabin is perfect. We spent a little time in Asheville and Black Mountain but the best time was just enjoying God's creation with a cup of coffee from the back porch. Thanks again, Greg

April 2011...Great rental with incredible views. The whole renting process was very easy and the owners were very accomadating and quick to respond to questions. Cabin was very clean, spacious, and full of amenities. Cabin's location made for an easy drive to downtown Asheville, the town of Black Mountain, and Chimney Rock. In one hour we were able to drive to Grandfather Mountain which was well worth the scenic drive. I would recommend this property to anyone. We had 6 guests and there was plenty of room...

Owner response:Thank you so much for the rave review! We hope you can come again! Best regards, Candace & Jack

The best Thanksgiving Ever!

Guest: Heather (Jacksonville,Fl )
Date of Stay: 11/20/10 Review Submitted: 11/29/10

We had the most amazing trip to the mountains and it far exceded our expectations. The home is set in a very private community and the lot overlooks the most amazing view of the moutains. We spent many hours mesmerized by the view. The community has a beautiful short hike to a private waterfall and it also has a private lake where we took a picnic. The home is full of warmth and charm. We made a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner and just as we sat down to eat the clouds parted so that we could enjoy the beautiful mountain view. The location is a short drive to Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Black Mountain. We hope to make a return visit in 2011!

We stayed at Jack & Candace's cabin for a weekend in January and had an amazing time! The reservation/payment process was a breeze and the owners are very accommodating. "Breathtaking" doesn't even do these views justice. The cabin was immaculate and was a great place for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. Once you get to the cabin, you may never want to leave though. We look forward to staying here again in the future next time we head to the Asheville area! Thanks Jack & Candace!
