"Petit bourgeois"-style house in the heart of an ancient perched Provence village. Saignon is a distinguished member of the most beautiful Luberon villages including Gordes, Roussillon, Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lourmarin and others.
The house has four floors. Kitchen and living room with a fireplace on the street level. First floor comes with one bedroom (2 beds), a living room (2 - 3 beds) each with a separate entrance to WC and shared shower and a den with one bed. Second floor has two bedrooms sharing a shower and a toilet with direct access from both rooms. The large master bedroom has a terrace with a breath taking view over the Luberon valley.
Below the street level there is summer kitchen with direct access to garden and pool. Lowest part of the house consists of a vaulted medieval cave now serving as a wine cellar.
For off-season the house has central heating.
The garden houses the pool and dining area under vine and wisteria covered "tonnelle".
The village of Saignon has a number of restaurants and some services such as a bakery, grocery point, a seasonal variety of artisanal shops, library and post office. Most services are to be found in Apt, 3 km from Saignon. Its Saturday market is a major weekly event in the region since the 14th century.
The POOL IS OPEN for the summer period from June 1 to August 31.
We have studied the prices in the region, and deliberately given our house a reasonable price.
All the fees are in euros. The dollar fee in indicative based on dollar rate (1 Euro gets 1.25 USD)

Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1989
By profession a computer scientist at Helsinki University of Technology. My family of five has spent lot of time all over the world; longer periods in different parts of the US, Switzerland, Nepal, Sweden, the Netherlands, ... Since 1989 when we bought our house in Saignon, I have spent a lot of time not only for holidays but also working there. It has been a splendid possibility to glue together our family and spend longer periods with our closest friends. I love outdoor living, beauty in world surrounding me, vivid intellectual life and... earthly pleasures of life.
Why the Owner Chose Saignon
One of our good friends, a Frenchman, had his military service early 1970's in Finland as a French teacher at our university. He had bought already 1968 a house in Goult, a village between Gordes, Roussillon, Menerbes and Bonnieux. At the end of 1980's when we decided to improve our chances of having enjoyable summers - in Finland we had experienced several consecutive sour summers - it was not difficult to decide where to start looking for a paradise.
After 10 weeks and 60 houses we ran up to a Saignon house with a small garden. At that moment its owners, a Princeton sociology professor & a French author, had decided to put it on the market. We felt both lucky and gratified to the deepest to be the first ones to find just this house. After 60 houses visited we knew what we got. And fully furnished...
The Unique Benefits of this House
Provence is a paradise we had dreamt about. Its beauty, its endless hiking and biking trips almost always revealing a new face to us. During the summer season the cultural life is very active with concerts to every taste, the Avignon theatre festival, the Orange and Aix-en-Provence Opera festivals. If you like nature, you have it. If you like history, you have it in numerous places all over Provence: Apt, Saignon, Aix, Nimes, Arles, Avignon,... If you like wine and food, you have it: Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, ... and many Michelin starred restaurants offering taste symphonies on local, seasonal ingredients. If you like beautiful villages, almost 10 % of the roughly 100 classified Most Beautiful Villages in France are located in and around Luberon.
Luberon is not as busy as Côtes d'Azur which is during summer seasons too "much" everything to my soul. Sometimes it is good just to stay in peace after too much hazzle in everyday life, and watch the varying colours and sense the sounds and smells of this magic region.
