As the designer and builder of the home I assure you I spared no expense in the construction of this home and the location of it. The Sturgeon River is literally 50’ from the house and the primary trail for mountain biking and snowmobiling is 5 minutes from the front door! There’s nothing like this 4 bedroom (plus loft), 3 bathroom home in Indian River so close to everything, including:
1. 20 minutes from some of the best golf courses in the Midwest (including all the Gaylord courses, Bay Harbor, Little Traverse Bay Golf Club, Boyne Highlands, Black Lake, Crooked Tree, Indian River Golf Club);
2. 5 minutes from the infamous Inland Waterways for boating, jet skiing, and swimming;
3. 20 minutes from the popular Mackinaw City (the gateway to Mackinaw Island);
4. 20 minutes from the Odawa Casino in Petoskey and unique shopping in Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Bay Harbor;
5. Significant parking space for your boats, trailers, and extra vehicles; AND..
6. YOUR NEXT VACATION CABIN UP NORTH COMES WITH TWO KAYAKS AND A CANOE FOR YOU TO USE AT NO ADDITIONAL COST!
This is the perfect home for Northern Michigan enthusiasts looking to live large while on vacation Up North. Holidays, weekends, and weekly trips here will certainly be extra special with your family and friends! The 2200 sq. ft. home comes complete with oak hardwood flooring throughout and terra cotta tile floors in all the wet areas. It also has corian countertops, custom-built cabinetry and stainless steel appliances in the chef’s kitchen and a BBQ deck and gas grill just off of the dining area. The main level also has a tidy living area with comfy seating and a 46” flat panel TV (complete with an Onkyo surround sound system) and a master bedroom with a private entrance to the deck overlooking the Sturgeon River. The upstairs is perfect for a couple and at least 4 kids; two in the smaller bedroom and two in the loft overlooking the great room. The upstairs master bedroom has gorgeous views of the Sturgeon River, vaulted ceilings, and a queen-sized, Tempur-Pedic mattress for extra comfort. The finished walk-out lower level has tile floors throughout and comes with a built-in, customized cedar sauna! All three levels have lots of privacy for multiple families, room for extra gear for sportsmen, access to and/or views of the Sturgeon River, and beautiful Northern White Cedar woodwork everywhere.
Outside, between the home and the river, is a nice lawn to run around on with your dog and a beautiful stone enclosed bonfire pit with firewood and seating provided. This area also has specifically placed lighting on the house so that you can watch the deer from inside late at night! In addition, the home has landscape ground lighting all around the foundation so it is well lit at night while you’re enjoying the late night bonfires at the river. In the front of the home is a smaller lawn and driveway. Also, there’s no problem with lots of parking space. Next to the home is another large vacant lot that is available for guests to park their extra vehicles, boats, trailers, etc. on. And for the hikers, mountain bikers, walkers/joggers and snowmobilers, Trail #7 that connects to THE ENTIRE TRAIL NETWORK THROUGHOUT THE REGION is only 5 minutes away. This trail network literally goes for hundreds of miles through some of the most beautiful wilderness imaginable; even the Pigeon River Country only 15 miles away!
The home is completely furnished with Northern White Cedar furnishings, trophy mounts, wildlife prints, hand-made quilts on all the beds, and a Jacuzzi hot tub below the deck overlooking the large lawn and the Sturgeon River.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2006
My name is Doug Sidell and I have a passion for life and for what I do! I'm a real estate investor, designer and builder of luxury cedar homes, and representative of buyers purchasing waterfront and mountain property in the Southeast, mostly in North Carolina. My primary residence is in Charlotte, NC and my business is simply named after me: C. Douglas Sidell & Co. I graduated with undergraduate and MBA degrees from Michigan State University and absolutely love following the Spartans in basketball and football. Most of my free time is spent with my girlfriend, Krista, who is a nurse practitioner at Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte and an alumnus of The Ohio State University. Some of my other free time is spent fly fishing, upland bird hunting with my dog Mitch, golfing, cooking, reading, traveling, kayaking, and working on just about anything around the house.
Why the Owner Chose Indian River
I didn't buy my vacation cabin; I built it! It is a home I designed and built in 2006 on the most perfect piece of Sturgeon River property. I chose to buy the land because it is so close to everything that is fun to do in Northern Michigan and because it would enable me to build the type of home I was looking to construct. The finished product is a three-story cabin with a finished, walk-out lower level, a main floor that's set up perfectly for entertaining inside and out, an upstairs that is well-suited for kids and adults, and views of the Sturgeon River just 50' in front of the house. There is a never ending supply of fun things to do; especially for families with children. A few that are really high on my list include: kayaking, fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing, boating, snowmobiling, biking, hiking, motorcycle riding, X-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, etc. and it's all just outside the front door of my cabin. I love it! I hope you will to.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Some unique benefits I enjoy while staying at my cabin on the river include, but are not limited to: peace and quiet; late-night bon fires at the river; lots of room for all my guests/family members; space for the dogs to run around; going from the sauna to the hot tub over and over; playing some of my favorite golf courses all within a 30 minute drive; cooking/BBQing big meals; watching movies on the big screen TV; listening to the birds early in the morning while drinking coffee on the deck; catching trout right in front of the house; taking advantage of all the freedom!
