Centro Historico house description
See our calendar link on this site for availability. Remember, Spring Break isn't only for college students. Many families use this time of year to take vacations as well. Extended stay inquiries invited.
Winter and spring are times of wonderful holiday parades and activities! Around Christmas the activities grow even more exciting, and the children come for treats at our doors. The ever-blooming gardens of SMA are fully floral at this time.
How we love spring in SMA! The town blossoms with the gardens, and walking around town and taking the easy walk to the Jardín is a highlight of the area. Please remember to bring your long lenses (and binoculars) for your cameras, because capturing the gardens, spectators, and surroundings of this World Heritage Site at this time is really REALLY special. You'll not soon forget this! What awesome time to be here.
The three formal gardens here at our home have flowers of various types all spring. Our on-premises gardener and House Manager makes sure that all looks fine every day! Also, WE HAVE A VIDEO LINK tour of our home (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbUndh4YVDs&feature=youtube) clickable on this site! You will find the link below. A plethora of new restaurants and businesses have been established. We will be at home there during all of February again this year, and would love to stay longer, but hey, you've got to work sometime!
Our lovely home was designed by famed Méxican architect Xavier Barbosa and is about 80 years old, secured and walled in a style which encourages comfort, relaxation, activities, socializing, bird-watching, and evening activities.
The gardens and fountains are fully lighted, a beautiful sight at night! This is a peaceful neighborhood which contains many foreign owners of homes (Americans and Canadians) and very friendly neighbors.
During our stay in February, 2013, I was very impressed with the multitude of new activities at the Biblioteca (library) here in SMA. Americans and Canadians have sponsored and organized many new programs. We saw lectures, a terrific Flamenco performance, a guitar/harp concert by artist-musician Sergio Basurto, a play at the library theater, and many others.
Languages (Warren Hardy [the finest of all language programs in SMA] is a few doors away!!), photography, art, drawing, music, walking and and shopping are some of our favorite activities. The Playreaders of San Miguel (firstname.lastname@example.org) have a fascinating schedule, and if you drop them a line, you can find out what's on their docket during the time you are there! They also have an excellent newsletter. This year we found a wonderful new opportunity to see the latest and best movies! It is a small 'matchbox'-type theater on Calle Jésus which, for 80 pesos, includes even a pastry and a drink!
And while the city is indeed growing a little, it is an old colonial area in which all changes must be approved and are carefully regulated. The town is now not only a Mexican Historical Site, but is on the UNESCO list of Historic Masterpieces, and a World Heritage Site. Our house, behind our walled compound, is the leading home in the whole area of el centro, the heart of the city. It is near the central garden of the town and the main church, a very easy walk to all the best sights and restaurants, language instruction, the Instituto, and shopping.
One added note: The master bedroom has one large double bed and each of the other two bedrooms contains 2 twin beds (a total of 4 twin-sized beds). All mattresses are firm, and the 4 twin beds are all brand new in Feb., 2012

- Play-reading weekly, painting lessons, 100 steps from the finest and friendliest Spanish instruction with Warren Hardy, terrific photos of Méxican windows and doors a major fun hobby, and as an 'art colony,' this town is a mecca for artists and it is replete with painting lesson opportunities! San Miguel de Allende is a paradise of interests for active adults. It is one of the most beautiful towns in Mexico, located in the state of Guanajuato. This historic town was founded in 1542. It is now a major tourist destination for a large American and Canadian expatriate community of retirees. Of the total population of about 130,000, 7,000 or so are North American expatriates. During the 60's San Miguel was a big scene for American counterculture - Ken Kesey's travels here were chronicled in 'The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test'. San Miguel de Allende almost became a ghost town in 1900. Fortunately it was declared a national historic monument in 1926. The city has been designated as a World Historic spot because the code in San Miguel de Allende requires maintaining the colonial look in the city proper. Therefore it is beautifully charming. The sidewalks are 500 years old. The interesting architecture and history also make it very special. San Miguel de Allende also offers visitors and residents a vibrant and lively community of artists, musicians, photographers and writers and a delightful mix of Mexican folk traditions, fiestas and religious celebrations....moreless

Beautiful home and incredible gardens. Attention to detail throughout the house. We walked all over San Miguel, perfect location. We enjoyed a weeks stay celebrating my mother's birthday. Great place for a family reunion. Would go back in a heart beat.

Owner response: Mrs. R, We cannot thank you enough for your gracious and descriptive review of our home in SMA! You are a Jewel, and our House Manager Miguel and his wife Aracely tell me all the time how nice you were to them. As you can see, they are like family to us, and to have tenants who appreciate the place and our folks there who take care of you, is really a thrill. Thank you very much, and please come back! Amazing trip to Lavender Hill
Amazing trip to Lavender Hill
This was our second trip to Lavender Hill and will not be the last. The photos do not do it justice. It is absolutely beautiful and peaceful! The staff is more than accommodating, friendly and helpful. The Villa is sparkling clean and I would definitely recommend it to friends. Miguel, the property manager is helpful and will recommend nearby activities, attractions and restaurants and will arrange for transportation if needed.

This house and its grounds are magnificent. Spacious and elegant with utmost tranquil surroundings. Neighborhood is quiet and convenient to the center of town. The setting here gives the house guests the real sense of colonial San Miguel. The house manager, Miguel, may be the real "jewel" of Lavender Hill. He is perfectly fluent in English and most knowledgeable of SMA and local area. If there is any downside, the mattresses could be updated but nothing you can't get past. I highly recommend this rental and we will be back.

This is an amazing property! From the Fortress-type wooden gates that feel like they are out of another century, to the immaculate gardens and warm, elegant interior, this home is perfect in every way! I found myself opting out of activities so as to be in this beautiful space as much as possible! The owners have created an elegant, yet comfortable, welcoming atmosphere that attends to every need. The bedrooms are separated and very roomy for maximum privacy. The gathering spaces are wonderfully welcoming, such as the rooftop terrace and the beautiful living room. The gardens are lovely and give a sense of long-ago luxury. The resident family couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. There are so many cultural and shopping opportunities here. We visited a pottery factory, a Hot springs pool, a spa; did horseback riding, dance lessons, and lots of walking and exploring the lovely city. I will return to this Magical place at every opportunity!

About the owner: Dermatologist, private practice in Lexington, Kentucky. Instructor in Dermatologic Photography, motorcycle safety avocation, traveler, artist, writer, and Rotarian. Love SMA for its arts, music, photographic, linguistic opportunities, and take many pictures there. Active Rotarian (Past District Governor) and love to attend the meetings of the two Rotary Clubs in SMA. Some of the paintings in the house are mine, and are hung there since 3-4 years of painting lessons in San Miguel.
Why the Owner Chose Centro Historico:
Fell in love with SMA and its people on second visit and found it such an oasis of culture and languages that we just had to purchase our home. Holidays and fiestas here are incomparable.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Safety, security and tender loving care are the hallmarks of our home. Many guests (we have donated time on many occasions to benefit various charities) have returned, and some have even asked for longer stays! You may contact our House Manager (lives in the separate staff quarters on the property), Miguel, to arrange transportation from the airport to our home and vice versa on your departure.
