Looking for a true island getaway? This quaint upscale cottage duplex is located in the heart of Sanibel Island yet very private and secluded. "The Getaway" is one block from Sanibel's famous shell laden white sand beaches. The island bike path is located directly across the street as well as restaurants, antique and shell shops are walking distance.
Newly refurbished in 2009 this large 1/1 cottage is tastefully decorated with a "beach cottage/shabby chic" style interior. This unit has it all- comfy slip cover sofas, 42 inch plasma screen television, DVD/VCR players, bedroom television, king size bed, cable and high speed internet, telephone w/free local and long distance, pull out sofa bed in living room, fully equipped kitchen(no dishwasher), linens and two screened in furnished porches.
For your added pleasure and use we have on site two beach cruiser bikes, propane BBQ, games and movies, a picnic basket, beach chairs, boogie board, skim board, rafts, beach umbrella and washer and dryer on premises.
"The Getaway" is absolutely perfect for couples looking for a charming and romantic cottage hideaway as well as for parents with children in tow. For families vacationing with the kiddies we have a portable crib, high chair (both stored away in closet), chest of toys and games, children's DVD's/videos and sand toys.
The central location is superb - one block walking distance to the beach as well as across the street from the golf course and the island bike path. Within minutes you can walk to the Lazy Flamingo, Maztaluna's, Huxter's Market, Island Trading Post Antique Shop, Schnapper's Hots, McT's,DQ, Billys Bike Rentals, She Sells Sea Shells, etc. When you enter the island we are the second left after you turn right onto Periwinkle Way in the heart of the island.

This location is less than .3 miles (5 min walk) to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Just hop onto one of the two provided beach cruisers and explore everything the island has to offer. We are close to everything including dining and Jerry's Market. For the golfer there are two semi private courses that offer a fun round while surrounded by the island's beauty

The property is lovingly owned by a couple from Miami that uses it with their children. They have designed the interior to an upscale "Shabby Chic" style with beach house overtones. Comfort, style and the anticipation of our guest's needs were our goal to provide to our visitors.

Our stay at the Getaway Cottage for the month of March was wonderful. The cottage was very comfortable even for our 6'7' 280 lb son-in-law who visited for over a week and slept on the pullout sofa bed. It was equipped with almost everything we needed ( a full-sized ironing board and a wok would be helpful.) The additional benefits of having a washer & dryer, beach chairs and bicycles, DVD player and Wi-Fi was fantastic. The Getaway Cottage was a great FIND and Shannon & David have truly made it a home away from home for their guests. Although it was already booked for this time next year, we will keep it high on our list for the future.

My husband and I just spent a relaxing and wonderful week in this cottage! The location cannot be beat, with close proximity to the beach and Periwinkle Way. We started each morning with either a jog on the ocean or a bike ride around the island. The day was spent on the beach and it was so convenient to have towels and an umbrella provided for us! Even though all the restaurants were close by, we found ourselves grilling at home for dinner. We just turned on some music, grabbed a beer and sat back in the adirondack chairs! Another key element for us was the washer and dryer; we just threw the sandy items from the beach in each night, so they were ready to go for the next day! There were a couple maintenance details that needed some attention with the cottage, but we let the owners know and they responded promptly and said it would be taken care of. Overall, our experience was very pleasant with both the owners and our stay. We will definitely return!

We stayed the month of February in this charming cottage-style duplex. It is nicely decorated, and the accomodations are very comfortable. The duplex is in a good location, with an easy walk to the beach. We also enjoyed riding the bicycles around the island's bike paths. This was our second stay here, and we plan to come back. We would recommend it to our friends and family!

Thank you for renting us a beautifully quaint weekend get away! Everything was thought out from beginning to end for our convenience! When you just want to get away and relax - this is the place I suggest. From the chairs for the beach to the bikes to ride around, we did not have to want for anything. Beautifully decorated, the memories we created will last a lifetime. Thank you!

i stayed at the getaway cottage for the entire month of january. it was perfect. nice decor,comfortable bed(like sleeping on a cloud), every amenity (big tv, wireless internet, free long distance phone, really nice bikes, beach chairs, hairdryer, ironing board and iron, washer, dryer, well stocked kitchen, fluffy towels). you only need to pack your clothes and show up. you can't beat the location. the beach is at one end of the road, the bike path is across the street, and the island's main drag is at the other end of the road. even though the property is centrally located, the neighborhood is still very quiet and peaceful. i loved walking to the beach every evening to watch the sunset and add to my shell (and starfish) collection. i searched for sanibel rental properties for months. the getaway cottage was the least expensive, but had all the perks of the high end rentals. looking forward to winter, 2011.

My wife and I spent the month of February, which happened to be our 41st anniversary in the Getaway Cottage. We had a wonderfull time. The cottage is comfortable, and nicely decorated. It is only a short walk to the beach and the Perriwinkle shops. I walked the beach every morning looking for shells. The weather was cool and windy, but the shelling was great.

Arriving from Germany we felt absolutely comfortable with "The Getaway". Beach, Restaurants, etc., everything in walking distance or easily accessible via the bikes, being part of the cottages "furniture". The cottage itself has everything you need for a comfortable vacation, I personally loved the big TV Screen, High Speed WiFi-Access and for the hotter days of November the air condition. We will come back to Sanibel soon. Margit & Michael

A great place to stay for a vacation. Everything was ready for us , including all notes of places and things to do. Everything we needed for the beach was right there including all toys for kids. The cottage was stocked with movies, games, dishes...the only thing we needed to bring was a bathing suit and sunscreen. The decor perfect for a beach cottage . We can't wait to return to this charming home away from home.

We had a terrific stay at "The Getaway Cottage." The cottage had a beachy style and the owners paid great attention to the little details. The cottage is in a great location. We enjoyed being able to ride the bikes up to the beach and around the island. Shops and restaurants are right around the corner. Shelling at the beach up the street was the best! Go out into the ocean and dig in the sand to find huge sandollars. We would recommend this listing and would definitely return for a future trip!
