Great cabin with wonderful character. Well stocked with basic supplies and have all kitchen stuff u wld ever need, including rice cooker and crock pot. Backyard patio is big w/ bbq and scenery of the woods.. Very very clean as well. Location is close enough to Yosemite and to other great hiking trails outside Yosemite. Also close to Oakhurst downtown where we went to buy woods for fireplace and other food items. The owner, Kelly is very nice and easy to talk to.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We rented the Fire Escape on short notice for Veteran's Day weekend and had a wonderful time The cabin was loaded with everything we needed to cook some fabulous meals; and we were able to relax around the fire watching movies at night. We were greeted each morning with a family of deer who wandered from the woods to find breakfast too, which just added to the charm. The owner gave us a wealth of information about the area and we were able to hike the swinging bridge trail - which we had no idea was there. Yosemite was just a short drive away so we went hiking both days, and we stopped by Oakhurst for some antiquing on the way home. Overall, a great trip and a great cabin that exceeded our expectations. Thanks!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and two children (aged eight and ten) stayed four nights at the Fire Escape cabin which is spacious, clean and well-equipped. The kids very much enjoyed the firefighter theme, which pervades the accommodation. They also enjoyed the video/DVD collection, though I did subsequently regret letting them watch Austin Powers! The owner was friendly and very helpful and I would be more than happy to recommend this property to a friend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

From the moment we arrived at the cabin we were pleasantly surprised at every turn. Everything from the decorum to cookware, comforts and hominess were just what anyone could've hoped for :) We'll definitely be coming back for another magical getaway!Did you find this review helpful? Our family stayed in the cabin over Thanksgiving weekend. We had a wonderful time there. The cabin is quaintly and warmly welcoming. When you step in the door, you are immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of cheer. One of the things I appreciated was the binder, on a table right by the door which gave immediate instructions for things like turning on the heaters and water, and pretty much made available information needed for operating and functioning all cabin equipment. I also liked the second binder, chock-full of brochures and computer print-outs and materials describing local sights, restaurants and things to do. The cabin is very much like the pictures found on Internet. It is uniquely designed, and quite charming. It was very clean and well-maintained. I expected to bring all food supplies with me, and was pleasantly surprised to find that both the cupboards and refrigerator were stocked with some basics. I also found the owner extremely helpful in answering questions that I had before our trip. Replies were prompt and informative. I would definitely recommend the property to others. In fact, I hope to stay there again sometime myself!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed at the cabin in October, 2011. Went to Mariposa Grove on 1st day, snowed for most of the day, trees looked beautiful. Our 2nd day we spent in Yosemite. Words or pics can't describe the beauty!!! Our only disappointment was Glacier Point Rd was closed due to snow, so we weren't able to see that area. Cabin was comfy, close to park entrances.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I decided to take our 8 month old daughter and my mother on our first family vacation to visit Yosemite National Park. After researching various options in and near the park including other rentals, camipng and hotels, we stumbled across the Fire Escape Cabin on VRBO and boy were we happy we did! It looked perfect for our small family and it was! It had all of the comforts of home and there was plenty of room for all of us. The cabin even has toys and games for your small ones! The location was perfect for us. It was close to Bass Lake and Oakhurst and only a short drive the the Yosemite Gate and Mariposa Grove. The valley floor is a bit of a drive, but it's worth it! The owners were so friendly and helpful and gave us lots of great tips over the phone and via e-mail regarding their favorite places to go, what to see, where to eat, etc. We took their tips on checking out the Nelder Grove of Sequoias and the Lewis Creek falls and trail which were VERY close to the cabin. We were SO happy we did! We had both the grove and the falls all to ourselves! And they were just as beautiful as most of the views we saw in Yosemite! Tip for Yosemite: While visiting the Pioneer Village in Wawona, we talked to the stage coach driver "Buckshot". He recommended we take Forrest Drive to the end (which is right next to the Pionner Village off of the 41) and hike to the swinging bridge. It was a short hike to a fantastic little bridge that crosses over the crystal clear Merced river. We hung there for hours, had a picnic and even went for a swim! It was a great little location and we basically had it to ourselves! We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone and everyone! We cannot wait to return ourselves!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed at the Fire Escape Cabin in September 2011, and had a wonderful week exploring Yosemite National Park. The Cabin was extremely spacious, well-equipped and in a lovely quiet location very close to Highway 41 - perfect for travelling to Yosemite or in the other direction towards Oakhurst, where we spent an enjoyable morning perusing the local art galleries and shops. The property was clean, well-maintained and the owners obviously take excellent care of it. We really enjoyed sitting out on the decking in the mornings and early evenings and watching out for deer, which regularly passed by through the trees nearby. The only problem we had (and this was nothing to do with the property or its owners) was that a neighbour's dog kept us awake by barking all night on our first night there (we heard it again occasionally throughout the week but otherwise it was very quiet). I would thoroughly recommend the Fire Escape Cabin to family and friends!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay at the Fire Escape Cabin was a comfortable, rewarding, and lots of fun for the entire family. The first night we had a barbeque on the patio and the first thing we saw were two deers coming out from the back of woods. They walked toward the front of the cabin and began to eat the fallen green apples from the apple tree. We stood up late relaxing on the patio watching the stars and also watching the bats fly by. The following day we drove up to Yosemite, which was only twenty to thirty minutes away from the cabin to hike Mariposa Grove. We came back to the cabin only to relax outside on the patio to barbeque once again. The next day we took another drive to Yosemite Valley which was very beautiful to see all the waterfalls and open fields, and more deers. We came back down and drove to Bass Lake and went for a swim in the lake. The last and final night there was an exciting one because we were once again relaxing on the patio when we heard a pouncing and pounding running on the side of the cabin. My family began to panic and scattered toward the back door while looking at the dark shadow racing by. We think it might have been a deer, at least we hope. Overall, we all had a great time at the Fire Escape Cabin and hope to visit it again someday. :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Really enjoyed our stay. Cabin is well stocked and quite comfortable. Good location near amenities (in Oakhurst) and in between Yosemite and Sequoia Parks. Bass Lake is also close by, which is fun for boating. There are several boat rental places. We also enjoyed horseback riding at the Yosemite Trail Rides. Homeowner was very helpful with information and timely responses.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Our family includes myself and my husband, as well as our three children. We love to camp, garden, swim, hike and vacation. We also enjoy music and photography. My husband is in the fire service and I coordinate events. We live on the Central Coast of California. We are involved with our children's activities and their schools making it hard to enjoy our cabin and the mountains as often as we would like. We enjoy sharing our cabin with others and knowing they will enjoy the wonderful experiences that the area offers.
Why the Owner Chose Oakhurst:
After 10 years of visiting the Oakhurst/Bass Lake area we decided to purchase a second home there. We had dreamed of buying in the area for several years and often visited properties during our vacations. We purchased the cabin in 2004, but rented it to a full time tenant almost immediatly. We had several tenants over the years and didn't consider using it as a vacation home until February of 2009. We stocked the home with all of the comforts that other rentals we had stayed in offered. We also chose to decorate the cabin with items from the fire service, as we enjoyed the idea of sharing the toys/decor that we have collected over the years.
The location of the cabin is perfect for our needs. It is in a wooded residential neighborhood, offering the feeling of being in the mountains, but not feeling isolated. The drive into Yosemite is a short and scenic drive. The quaint town of Oakhurst offers all of the amenities that we need. From a movie theater to grocery stores. But our favorite is Bass Lake! We love the warm water and incredible views of the tree lined shores and scenic mountain backgrounds.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin offers a wonderful central location. Some of the areas and activities that we have enjoyed while in the area include: Historic Yosemite Flats Park, trail rides on horse back, the historic Sierra Skyranch Inn (They offer some interesting ghost sighting stories and have been featured on several TV shows lately). We also have enjoyed a little gambling at Chuckcansi Casino in Coarsegold. A drive down historic Hwy 49 an hour or so are some of the historic gold country towns that we have enjoy visiting that include: Mariposa and (my kids favorite) Colombia. We have heard from several of our past renters that the central location for perfect for their visit to the area. We are thrilled they agree!
