Washington DC is the Capital of USA. There's no denying that Washington, the world's first planned capital, is also one of its most beautiful. And although the federal government dominates many of the city's activities and buildings, there are always places where you can leave politics behind. Washington is a city of vistas -- pleasant views that shift and change from block to block, a marriage of geometry and art. Unlike other large cities, Washington isn't dominated by skyscrapers, largely because, in 1910, Congress passed a height-restrictions act to prevent federal monuments from being overshadowed by commercial construction. Its buildings stretch out gracefully and are never far from expanses of green. Like its main industry, politics, Washington's design is a constantly changing kaleidoscope that invites inspection from all angles.
About Ledroit Park:
LeDroit Park is a neighborhood in Washington, D.C. located immediately southeast of Howard University. Its borders include W Street to the north, Rhode Island Avenue and Florida Avenue to the south, Second Street to the east, and Georgia Avenue to the west.
The neighborhood was Developed by Amzi Barber (Board of Trustees, Howard University) in the 1870s LeDroit Park was one of the first suburbs of Washington. Many of the area's Victorian mansions, houses and row-houses were designed by architect James McGill. LeDroit Park was developed and marketed as a "romantic" neighborhood with narrow tree-lined streets that bore the same names as the trees that shaded them. Originally the neighborhood did not follow the scheme for street names used in the rest of Washington DC. Extensive focus was placed on the landscaping of this neighborhood, as developers spent a large sum of money to plant flower beds and trees to attract high profile professionals from the city. LeDroit Park was even gated with guards to promote security for its hopeful residents. Originally LeDroit Park was a Whites only neighborhood. Efforts by many lead to the area becoming integrated especially multiple actions by students from Howard University. In July 1888 the students tore down the fences that separated the neighborhood in protest of its discriminating policies.
By the 1940s LeDroit Park became a major focal point for the African-American elite as many prominent figures resided there. Griffith Stadium was also located here until the 1965, when the Howard University Hospital was built where it used to stand. Le Droit Park includes Anna J. Cooper Circle, named for the education pioneer.
Caution: The immediate neighborhood surrounding the townhome has undergone a transition in the past several years to become up and coming area to live due to many new developments nearby, but currently is still urban.

The apartment was wonderful, roomy, clean; full kitchen; whirlpool tub works great; used washer/dryer combo for the first time (tenee loads only). Although I asked several times, we were never given the correct access code for Wifi and had to take turns using the unit's PC; better than no connection at all, though. Lots of towels available, but bring your own toilet paper. Quite a walk to the nearest Metro Shaw-Howard U station (9 blocks away) and don't recommend walking there or back to apartment after dark. Had to drive close to downtown to get to a grocery store (Safeway), but it was worth the drive as they had everything we wanted and it was clean. The manager told us the neighborhood was under revitilization, that parking was not enforced and we could park anywhere. However, the downstairs renters got tagged while parked in front of the building and police told him he could not park there. When they moved their vehicle further down the street, it was broken into with their window smashed and GPS stolen.They left the next day when they were scheduled to stay 2 more weeks. Upon leaving, this renter advised the neighborhood was not safe due to drug activity he witnessed. The manager and owner are slow to respond to emails and calls, so be prepared to be very much on your own. Overall, this rental is a great value for the amenities it provides and offers and would recommend it if you don't have a vehicle, are physically fit to walk a lot, and know how to be aware of your surroundings. We had great weather each day we were here mid October.
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We really enjoyed this house. It is very clean and well set up. The kitchen was nice, the rooms were all comfortable, and the internet was great. Most important of all was how professionally run this place is. Any problems are dealt with immediately. You get the best of both hotels and houses.
