Charming 1870's beach cottage once owned by impressionist Theodora Kane located in the Lewes Historic District. Cottage maintains original wide planked flooring and claw footed tub. Unusual beams were utilized when restoring the home.
Lewes beach is located within approximately 3/4 mile. Enjoy a bicycle ride to beautiful Cape Henlopen State Park just a couple of miles away. Bicycle the Junction and Breakwater Trail to Rehoboth on bicycles available for our guests.
Relax and enjoy our gardens and private pool, after a day at the beach.
Cottage is located only a few blocks from Historic Second Street with great restaurants, shops, and boutiques. It is only a short drive to outlet malls with tax-free shopping. Consider including a trip on the ferry to Cape May, New Jersey, or kayaking from the new canal park. Historic Lewes has much to offer. Take a self guided walking through town or an evening cemetery tour through the Historic Society. Walk to the canal and take a tour of one of the few surviving lighthouse ships or charter a boat to go fishing on the Delaware Bay. Tuesday evening concerts can be heard at the town library which is a ten minute walk from the cottage. There are several parks and beautiful gardens in Lewes. Visit the wonderful farmer's market on the grounds of the Historic Society on Saturday morning. There are always wonderful things happening in Lewes!
This home was purchased in 2009 and is decorated with all new beds, living room furniture, and charming antiques. Art quilts adorn the walls throughout the cottage and may serve as your inspiration to create your own works of art. You will certainly be able to relax and enjoy the gardens and screened porch area.
Children welcome and encouraged to enjoy our charming and relaxing space. Lincoln logs, Legos, and a library of children's books and videos are available.

The owners of this house were so wonderful, answering all of my questions and even offering to check places out for our wedding since we were in PA. Their beach house couldn't have been better for our wedding week. We absolutely loved, loved, loved this house. It made our beach wedding even better to have the wonderful comforts of home in this fantastic house. Truely you need to rent this place! Worth every dime!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: It is an honor to be a part of the special experiences of our guests even though we may never meet them! While our house is small we are able to provide an intimate setting for small groups, especially in our outdoor space. We appreciate this positive feedback. Thank you guests!

We loved our stay in the “Theadora Kane House.” This historic cottage is delightful with many charming details, including decorative wall quilts, gas stove with brick hearth in kitchen, claw footed tub and beautiful wide-planked floors (both original). Other amenities we enjoyed: nice pool with lots of floats & inflatables, outdoor sound system, outdoor shower, wonderful screened porch w/ double-doors that open into kitchen, WiFi (worked flawlessly), HDTV in living room, DVD video library, pillow-top mattresses, complimentary bicycles, and two-car driveway. Downtown Lewes is an easy walk through the historic district. We enjoyed evening strolls to King’s ice cream after a day at the beach. We’d gladly stay again.Did you find this review helpful? Why the Owner Chose Lewes:
We looked for a second home for several years to enjoy with our family and to live in after we retire. We fell in love with Lewes and finally found a wonderful historic home with a beautiful back yard space. We enjoy walking into town for coffee and baked goods or to the town library. The community is warm and inviting and there is a vibrant art community. When we come to visit, we don't want to leave. It feels like home. It is our 'Fortress of Solitude'!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We believe that our street is one of the best streets in Lewes. In one year's time we have become close friends with our neighbors and we love the kindness and sense of community that the town of Lewes embodies. Be careful if you stay on Jefferson Avenue as you may find yourself looking for a second home!
