This quiet country log cabin is (A) 5 minutes from Historic Whites Mill; (B) 15 minutes from the Barter Theater, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Emory & Henry College, and the Harvest Table Restaurant (Barbara Kingsolver's Restaurant for locally grown food); (C) 30 minutes from the Town House Grill in Chilhowie (Classy Dining), Big Tumbling Creek (stocked trout stream); Hidden Valley Lake, Saltville Museum of Middle Appalachians; 45 minutes from Bristol Motor Speedway*, White Top Laurel (special regulation trout fishing), and the Lincoln Theater in Marion (features "Song of the Mountain Concerts" every month - i.e. traditional bluegrass music); 60 minutes from Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and New River Trail State Park. There are numerous restaurants and theaters available in the Abingdon and Bristol area.
*(Race weekend rates are $150 per night - two night minimum)
The cabin is made from hand-hewn pine logs in nearby Lee County. The field rock used on the foundation, chimney, and interior fireplace is nothing less than a display of artwork done by local stone masons. The interior of the cabin includes exposed hand hewn beams and tongue-and-groove spruce that cover the vaulted ceilings.
The property owners seek to strike a harmonious balance between pasturing a small number of beef cattle (about 10-12 head) and using the latest conservation practices to promote wildlife and protect water quality. The property combines farming with recreation to help educate guests about the privilege of enjoying God's creation while demonstrating the importance of protecting God's creation.
Since this cabin is on a working farm, it is important for guests to stay on roads and trails. Guests should not cross fences at any time. There is no additional charge to use the pond and picnic area. It may be necessary to reserve the picnic area at the pond if you plan to use it during your visit.
The driveway to the cabin (Genesis Lane) is also used by our neighbor that lives approximately 3/4 mile beyond the cabin. Please keep Genesis Lane open so that the neighbors and/or their guests may pass through freely without delay.
