We rented the Hacienda for a girlfriend getaway and absolutely loved it! It is in a beautiful setting and the perfect place for us to relax and catch up. The home was immaculate and fresh, from the bedding to the kitchen, to the pool and yard. The living room was large and accommodated our group nicely. The bedrooms were all charming and comfortable and what a bonus to have bathrooms attached to them all. We loved the pool area with the cabana for shade and the comfy chairs. Having the pool was such a treat! The sunsets were amazing, as was the stargazing. The setting is so serene and peaceful. We all meet for a weekend once a year and this was by far, one of our favorite places to stay. Karine was so helpful with any questions we had and we felt very welcomed in her home. It was a very special weekend!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The house is gorgeous, and plenty spacious. We had 9 adults and 4 children 2 and under. Karine and Michel were gracious and sweet. They even accommodated a last minute addition of a doggy guest. The pool was a bit cool, but that was due to the time of year, nothing they could control. The hot tub is great, and we just kept it at a lower temp and let the kids play in that instead. My only recommendation is to add a fire pit of some kind! We used both the main house, and the guest house, which worked out great. The kitchens, laundry, and grills were all put to great use during our stay. Loved the location, it felt remote and totally private, but was close to all our favorite restaurants and plenty of things to do. Will definitely stay again if/when we have our family reunion in Tucson again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

One word easily sums up La Hacienda del Mayar: WOW! From the first time I had contact with Karine to our return home, it was a special vacation. Rather than reiterate what previous people have said, I'll instead give slightly different viewpoints. As stated by other reviewers, the pictures on the website don’t do it justice. They only show a small part of the total picture. They don’t show all of the small things that come with the hacienda, such as the fast, attentive and very friendly service; the complete kitchen with any utensils you could need; the gas grill outside that’s ready to go; the pair of gila woodpeckers that visit the hummingbird feeder several times each day; the perfect weather; the Saguaro NP hiking trails that are around the corner; the coyotes howling nightly; even the Safeway grocery store that’s very close. I enjoyed the (too little) time I had talking with Karine and Jean Michel. They are obviously a couple who enjoy their duties as hosts / caretakers and seem to truly enjoy meeting people from all over. My wife and I hiked an average of 5 miles every morning in SNP, which is right across the street, but one can easily do much shorter or more aggressive journeys as well. The main park entrance is about a 5 minute drive, and one and one-half minutes (literally around the corner) in the other direction is another entrance to the park’s trails where you can park your car outside and walk in. Hiking in the morning allowed us to beat the most intense sun and spend the afternoon by the pool. Just past the SNP entrance is Saguaro Corners, a restaurant that just re-opened and we had a wonderful evening sitting out on their patio, munching unique appetizers and enjoying some cool beverages. We hope to return to the Tucson area again for more vacations, and La Hacienda del Mayar will be our first choice, hands down! If you’re considering this as an option, I recommend without hesitation that this be your first choice.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Did you ever discover something that you love so much that you did not want to tell anyone about it so that you could keep it for yourself? That's how I feel about La Hacienda del Mayar. We absolutely loved this Hacienda and felt perfectly at home from the minute we arrived. We hope to return every year. The pictures on VBRO are accurate, its that beautiful and well decorated. The house is spacious and the furniture is actually comfortable. We were with 2 other couples so we very much appreciated the bathrooms in each of the 3 bedrooms. The King room is massive. I must admit that I am fussy and sometimes hard to please and a total kitchen snob. Our house back home is dominated by a huge kitchen. I love to cook and entertain and we hosted several gatherings while we were there. I was surprised by the generous kitchen accommodations: the variety of cookware and the well stocked spice cabinet. (I preferred the non-stick pans vs the stainless steel ones desired by another reviewer.) The house comfortably accompanied 3 couples in residence and 8 for a sit down dinner. The location on the edge of the Saguaro National Park was perfect for the runners, the hikers, the cyclist and those of us seeking sun and solitude and the city is only 30 minutes away. I am confident that you will love this house and their gracious owners. Thank you Karine and JM for your wonderful Hacienda!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

The Hacienda is spacious, comfortable, clean, and attractive. Two relaxing weeks gave us plenty of time and space to entertain our daughters, their families, and even an old friend from Prescott! The house is roomy and well equipped with FOUR baths so it never felt crowded. East Saguaro Park was close enough for frequent hikes before (or after) everyone was off for the day. Other activities included horseback riding, Tohono Chul, the botannical garden, the Desert Museum and trips to Ramsey Canyon, Tombstone, and Tubac for shopping. Even though the house was in a convenient location, it was peaceful, scenic and quiet. We spent hours enjoying the the outdoor areas. We started our day with coffee and bird watching on the sunny master bedroom patio or ramada and we enjoyed watching the mountains change color in the evening! The owners were pleasant and very accommodating. They made every effort to make our stay so enjoyable. Thank you Karine and Jean Michel! We would certainly recommend the Hacienda del Mayar to anyone and hope to be back again soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

When we drove up to Hacienda del Mayar, we were in awe. The house is a very attractive and well kept ranch surrounded by the peaceful beauty of the desert. It's tucked in the Suguaro National Park with impressive views to the eastern and southern mountain ranges. Although it was too cold to swim or go in the jacuzzi (and we chose not to heat either), we could sit comfortably in the backyard and read while the December sun kept us warm. It is a vision to breathe in. About the house itself: there is everything you could possibly want in a vacation house, and it is immaculate. The master suite is huge and has southern and eastern exposure and a private patio. The bathroom is large enough to sleep a small family! The walk in closet is massive. At first, I thought the smaller master was the only master bedroom. The 3rd bedroom has its own large bathroom and the 4th bedroom/study has a private bathroom directly next door. There is plenty of room in this spacious house for everyone to feel they have their own space. I stay at VRBO homes each year when I travel and this is by far the roomiest and most comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped and we could cook without worrying that we didn't have a piece of cookware. I would suggest different pots and pans that are not non-stick because people have scraped the bottoms of them and they are in poor condition. The larger pans were difficult to cook with. I'm sure that Karine will attend to this because that is the kind of owner she is. A set of stainless pots and pans would suffice. We had a one year old in our group and Karine had a pack and play (although my daughter had brought one) and a bouncy swing. There was more for a baby that we didn't need but I suppose it's listed above. We met Karine and that was a treat in and of itself. She is warm, attentive and lovely. We are coming back to stay with Karine the next time we are in Tucson. If our party is smaller, we hope to reserve her smaller home or her condo. Thank you for everything Karine.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

I have stayed here 3 (or is it 4 times??) and intend to keep on coming back! I am beginning to feel like I live here. The house is very spacious, comfortable, and well-equiped; the lot feels secluded and peaceful. The big bonus for me is the location across from Saquaro Natl Park - I can get up early and go for a hike, and be back in time to enjoy breakfast on the patio before taking a dip in the pool. And Karine and Jean Michel are wonderful. They are so friendly and accommodating, very trustworthy, and respect my privacy and space. I am left on my own devices but they are just a phone call away for anything I need at anytime. Merci to you both! Generally I am skeptical about rental houses found online: they often look too good to be true, or do not quite live up to the claims of the pictures or website. This one does. I can't think of a single complaint or need for change. I love it here as do my friends and family. It is a perfect desert getaway and I will be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This could not have been more our style. We are from Santa Fe, NM and we loved the colorful interior of the home. The views were great and at night the stars pressed down from above. This is a well maintained home and the owners were very concerned for our comfort. I loved the coffee bar where in the early morning I would prepare my coffee and sit out on the porch waiting on the sun to rise over the Saguaro National Park mountains to the east. A slice of heaven. The house is well appointed for comfort and the kitchen has everything needed for gourmet meals to a quick snack. We loved our stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Review posted on Vacation rentals web site. Rated ***** Hacienda del Mayar tom (franklin, ny, usa) Review submitted: October 17, 2012 Date of arrival: October 3, 2012 Hacienda Del Mayar was perfect for my family...as my three children, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren accompanied my wife and I to Tucson. Spacious and well appointed, this ranch on the edge of the desert captured the essence of what a vacation should be in the southwest. Everything was well thought out and our stay required little guesswork as we settled into our accommodations. The children loved the pool and the setup was such that we were able to entertain our Tuscon friends in the area in reciprocation for their hospitality. An idyllic location, well away fom the crowd but close enough to all amenities. In fact, the perfect desert get-away for anyone who wants to relax and unwind. Quite apart from the beautiful location, the house is lovely, there's everything you could possibly need and the pool and grounds are superb. To top it all off, Karine is a charming and very helpful owner who takes the time to help with recommendations on where to shop and eat. Really you couldn't ask for more. We did most of our food shopping at Whole Earth on Speedway and, unexpectedly, found that the best place to eat out was Zinburger, both are to be recommended. Someone wrote elsewhere that the desert is therapeutic and we couldn't agree more. We'll definitely be back and when we do we'll be staying here. Loved it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at the Hacienda del Mayar exceeded our expectations. The home itself is beautiful and very clean and comfortable. There is plenty of space to spread out, even with our up to 7 people staying there. We were there in August, so obviously the temperature was very hot. The house was always at a nice cool and comfortable temperature inside. We cooked and had most of our meals at the house, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen was great to work in and there are plenty of dishes, pots, pans, etc. When we did want to leave the property (which was rare for me) there are plenty of things to do and sights to see. The Biosphere and the Desert Museum are great! The pool is beautiful and big enough to really swim and enjoy. The water temperature was perfect. We tried to swim every day and some days more than once. It was so nice to have complete privacy while swimming. Although there are neighboring homes within sight, the back yard is completely private (and very large). I don't think I can adequately describe the beauty of the setting. From the back patio (and from inside the house as well) the view is of the beautiful back yard, the desert setting with beautiful saguaro cacti (as well as other varieties) and the nearby mountains. The pictures Karine has posted do not completely do justice. I don't think a picture can adequately demonstrate the beauty. It is breathtaking. There is plenty of wildlife. Many birds call the backyard their home (including roadrunners, doves and quail). We saw hawks soaring above at times. We often went to sleep to the sound of coyotes yipping in the night (which I found enjoyable). There are lizards (we saw no snakes and there is a snake proof fence in the back yard) and of course various insects. The setting sits at the edge of Tucson in a somewhat rural area. We heard no traffic noise and there are no streetlights to detract from the stars at night. Lastly, Karine and Jean Michele were a joy to work with. We had a 7 month old infant with us, and Karine made sure there was a highchair, a playyard, and a bouncer to entertain the baby......so thoughtful. Karine is always readily available and works very hard to ensure that the guests are happy and comfortable. I hope to return next spring. It was wonderful! I would recommend to anyone.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Outstanding property, quiet, very relaxing spot to get away from everything. We really never had to leave, because we had everything we needed. Everything about this place, was as advertised. Clean, spacious, even had toys for my grandkids. The only negative I could possibly come up with, which is no one in particular's fault was being there during the "Monsoon" season. Coming from Texas, it was not much of a problem, as we found it quite refreshing to get an afternoon shower. All in all, we had a great time, and Karine and Jean Michael were the most gracious hosts. We will definitely be going back, since while we were there my oldest daughter became engaged!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

We just wrapped up a week at Hacienda del Mayar and the Casita that was the answer to a dream. An email started the whole thing and eventually we had three families of 4 staying at the main house and the casita (one family flew in from Germany). EVERYONE had a private room that was beautiful, very comfortable and in all ways perfect. Those that were so inclined went hiking and the rest went swimming or just loafed in the perfect and huge patio. On Saturday we had brats and burgers with the "rest" of our family who drove in from Douglas and Phoenix. If there was a way to make this time more perfect, we didn't need it. Karine was such a gracious hostess and every detail in the house was so well thought out that we lacked for nothing! There are no hotels out here for our out of town guests but we are so spoiled now that the Hacienda or the Casita will be our destination. I'm trying to figure out a way I can escape to the Hacienda just for fun and leave the responsibilities of life behind. I'm going to keep working on that. Thank you so much Karine for a fabulous week. Hugs to all, Mary Ann.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed at this location multiple times, and we continue to be very impressed by both the home as well as the very professional way in which the owners manage it. The owners are truly exceptional hosts and really put out the extra effort to make sure that guests are pleased with their stay. The home is in a beautiful desert location, very quiet and private and very well maintained. The mountain and desert views are awesome. The proximity to Saguaro National Park East and Sabino Canyon are ideal for hikers and bicyclists. The home is exactly as pictured and is always immaculately clean. It is very nicely equipped with all the amenities that one would need for a comfortable vacation stay. This comments are posted by Karine, the owner, for clarification about the rating of the previous review. John, from Santa Fe, loved the Hacienda and his stay there, but he rated it 4 **** and not 5 ***** because he explained to me that "Perfection does not exist", and he emailed me also the following comments: "The rating of 4 over 5 is part of my personality in business. When asked I never have rated anything at the max allowed. 9 out of 10, 4 out of 5 is a great rating coming from me. In business, you know this, there is always room for improvement and I feel certain you will keep you eye on those things that are important to continue your successful rental business." I really appreciated his feed back and I totally understand his point of view...I found interesting to submit it here. Karine, the ownerDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Wonderfully Relaxing! Left on 09/10/2011 for a stay in August 2011 It was so refreshing to have a house to return to after a day of sightseeing! It was comfortable, extremely clean and not lacking in any of the necessities that a family would need. We used La Hacienda as a meeting spot for our adult children and enjoyed having our own spaces to retreat to in addition to the joint areas of the large living area & kitchen. We especially enjoyed having our own private swimming pool to enjoy during the hot arizona days! I would definitely recommend La Hacienda del Mayar to anyone who is looking for the comforts of home with plenty of space in a beautiful setting. Everything you need is available for the guests, and the house is built in a beautiful setting on the border of the Saguaro park east. The living room is spacious and comfortable and the kitchen is well equiped. The bedrooms also were wonderful and the garage is an extra comfort and keeps the car cool when hot. We enjoyed the great swimming pool with Spa and after a day of exploring the park, we came home and could relax on a great way. The beauty of the nature from arizona is well known and the owners of the Hacienda have decorated the house on a beautiful way, so the beauty of the nature is complete in balance with the decorations from the house! It was worth waiting through 25 years of marriage to enjoy... Left on 12/17/2010 for a stay in December 2010 ... but if I had know about it sooner my wife and I would have traveled to Tuscon much sooner. We had never been on a winter holiday since our Honeymoon in Hawaii in 1985. Hacienda del Mayar was perfect for us. On the edge of Tucson it provided a tranquil location to enjoy the beauty of the desert and the warmth of the season (some days almost 100 Fahrenheit warmer than at home). Seeing Cauctus, javelina, and road runners during the day and watching shooting stars from the jacuzzi at night. Who could ask for more. The place was spotless when we arrived and Karine and Jean Michael where superb hosts. Thank you for making our week so special. More Details ? Our stay at the Hacienda was just what we needed. Down a dirt road was this wonderful white home in Tucson with views of the mountains and the great desert night sky. The property was clean, very well kept, easy to find and private. Mornings at the pool you could watch the wildlife( roadrunners, ground squirrels, woodpeckers, quail and doves to name a few) sip on coffee and watch the sun rise. Del Mayar is the cleanest place I've rented in Tucson and will return. Also, this is the first review I've written about a home. If you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing. I can not say enough about the cleanliness and condition of the home and pool. Wonderful owners that care about their property. One more thing, For the week we stayed there, I saw no Scorpions and with their wonderful fence, no snakes! Thanks, K. & J.M.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at La Haciende Del Mayar for one week, arriving on June 26, 2010. The house is very welcoming - even better than the photos depict. There is plenty of room and everything is spotless! The laundry room came in very handy, as did the office. The kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms are very large, as is the living/dining room. Every bedroom has its own large bathroom. The back yard is beautiful, and the pool/spa is wonderfully relaxing. We saw a variety of desert wildlife in the yard, including quail, jackrabbits, and roadrunners. The views from the windows and from the backyard are breathtaking! The owner of the property is very helpful, and is a pleasure to do business with. It is obvious that she greatly cares about the comfort of her guests. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Tucson. Although it is on the eastern edge of town, it is a very quick and easy drive to get anywhere. The close proximity to Saguaro National Park East is a plus.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The Hacienda is a beautiful and relaxing place for a vacation. The home and grounds are very clean and private. The sunrises over the Rincon Mountains are stunning. Hiking trails in Saguaro National Park east are a 15 minute walk. The house is large and has private indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy a book and relax. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I have been to many rental properties over the years, in many parts of the country, but none can compare to the overall experience we had at La Hacienda del Mayar. From the moment we walked in the door we knew this place was special. The attention to detail could be seen everywhere, from the extremely well-equipped kitchen to the unique en suite bathrooms, from the comfortable living room furniture to the spectacular desert landscaping and the privacy of the patio and pool area. We instantly felt at home here and that feeling deepened with every passing day. The mountain views to the north and east were spectacular, no matter what time of day. And the wonders of Saguaro National Park were literally a Tiger Woods drive away. We know we'll be back again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Hacienda del Mayar-a great vacation experience! Bartholome (Golden, CO USA) Review submitted: mars 27, 2010 Date of arrival: décembre 1, 2009 We really enjoyed our vacation staying at the Hacienda del Mayar. The property description was accurate, and the house reflected a lot of attention to detail in both cleanliness and decor. The vase of fresh flowers was a very nice touch. It reflects well on the property management skills of the owners. The large private fenced back yard, shared with the guest house, offered both stunning views of the mountains as well as the great native landscaping. The easy access to Saguaro National Park and Sabino Canyon for hiking and bicycling were great bonuses. The heated spa was a nice treat after a day of activities. This is a rental property that we will use again for future travel to the Tucson area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
